Traveling and staying Dental Hygienic
The year is now 2020 and the pandemic is still in play.  It has essentially shut down lots of the economy and really shut down the travel industry.  Airlines are running less than half the flights they were and people are simply not legally allowed to travel for vacation in most states.  It is a major game changer for the lifestyle of Americans. But soon that will change.
Social distancing rules will still be in place, but most individuals will get back to their normal travel styles and vacations will be alive and kicking once again.  So one thing that gets overlooked on vacations is one of the key basic hygienic parts of living and that’s your teeth.  It is an area that is simply neglected the most when people go on vacation. So here are a few tips to make sure you are staying healthy and won’t find yourself with a toothache or having to rush to an emergency dentist when you get back home.

Don’t forget to bring your tooth brush.  It is a simply a habit you need to make sure you have in place. Pack all of your bathroom supplies the day before you go or actually get excited about purchasing a new travel kit.  My family goes and gets a new set of travel tooth brushes and it is a fun ordeal.
The last time I got a start wars themed tooth brush and it was child like and hilarious.  The best part of the travel tooth brushes is most come with a suction cup on the bottom.  Yes it feels a bit childish, but it is actually very useful when staying at hotels or places that don’t have a tooth brush holder.  Lets be honest the toothbrush holders that go around the head of the brush are disgusting to use.  They simply make a mess and leave your travel bathroom bag wet and filled with white paste.  So go ahead get a travel brush and grab a high quality travel tooth paste to go along with it.

Remember to eat healthy when you are out on vacation.  It is definitely ok, to set aside some meals for delicious treats, but don’t eat candy the entire car ride or airplane trip.  Also make sure to brush your teeth after you do.  It’s a travel kit right so you can bring it with you and keep yourself safe.  Many people get super excited on vacation and leave hotel rooms early, and skip steps in their daily routine. But take the time to brush your teeth and avoid dental catastrophes.

Choosing the right toothbrush
It is fascinating when you break down how much time the average American spends on daily tasks through their lifetime.  It is daunting to imagine spending hour and days and sometimes weeks of your life simply doing a normal task.  The truth is that some studies have stated that the average American spends 1000 hours brushing their teeth during their life. That is 41 and a half days or five weeks.

Did you ever think you would spend 5 weeks of your life brushing your teeth?  This is based off the idea that you are brushing your teeth for around 2 to 3 minutes a day.  That is the amount of time you should be spending on keeping you dental hygiene up.  Well since you are going to spend that much time doing it, there are a few things you should consider.

You may want to make sure you have the right kind of toothbrush!  There are so many different kinds.  Does your tooth brush have angled brushes?  Maybe instead it has really high and raised bristles or oscillating electric tooth brush.  The important thing is that you are brushing your teeth for the required 2 to 3 minutes a day and that the brush is comfortable in your mouth.  You want to make sure the bristles are not too hard. This will actually harm your gums and not clean your teeth any better. So make sure it has soft bristles so your gums can stay healthy and your teeth can stay clean as well. Hard bristles can expose the roots of your tooth.  This is one of the reasons some people have high sensitivity to hot or cold foods and liquids.  It’s important to have soft bristles to avoid this whole issue.

You will want to make sure the toothbrush is also sized properly for your mouth. It is really not complicated, but on average you want the brush to be about an inch long or just enough to cover 1 to 2 teach maximum at a time.  It really doesn’t matter if it’s an electric toothbrush or not.  Commercials are great at exaggerating the cleaning power of an electric toothbrush, but rather it self oscillates or you are moving it back and forth yourself, they really clean the same amount.  Electric toothbrushes are great for people who have trouble with the motor skills required to brush teeth.  That is where they electric toothbrush shines.  So if you need one, get one, but otherwise don’t worry to much about it. Stay safe and stay healthy.
