Jay Halstead was a menace in your life, because, despite everything your head was telling you, you knew you would somehow end up in his bed sooner rather than later. He was just always there, with his stupidly handsome face and that annoying smirk he'd reserved only for you. And although you knew the rules Voight had laid out, 'no in-house dating', when he was standing there, looking so god damn good, your alcohol-fuelled brain just couldn't resist making a move.
And so that's where you found yourself, at god knows what time in the morning, carefully trying to manoeuvre yourself out of bed without waking the sleeping man. Wincing every time he stirred, you slowly managed to lift yourself off the bed, quietly reaching for your clothes that lay scattered around the room. Sneaking out of the bedroom, you made your way toward the kitchen, needing to find anything that would stop the incessant pounding headache that signalled your impending hangover. The water did little to quell any of your pain though, instead, you stood there squeezing your eyes shut, hands braced against the kitchen countertop.
In your moment of weakness, you failed to hear the slow footsteps coming up behind you, only realising once two arms found their place wrapped around your waist. Tensing up at the feeling, you opened your eyes, leaning into the man behind you.
"Jay…" you whispered, this wasn't the type of affection you wanted if you were to remain impartial, but you'd already given in. Sleeping with him once you could say it was a mistake, but twice, now that would be harder to justify. Plus this was just a one-night stand after all, wasn't it? You'd heard what he was like with other women as well, especially cops in your unit. And you weren't prepared to be just another Erin or Hailey, dating the man for a while until an inevitable break up. Or one of the many women he'd pick up at whatever bar he'd chosen for that night.
Reaching down, you pried his hands from around you, dropping them soon after to turn to face him. Though you'd originally expected him to bear a lusty face, one begging you to come back to bed, instead painted a picture of concern and disappointment. It was if somehow he didn't want you just for sex, and actually cared for you. But no, this was Jay Halstead after all, and you were nowhere near his league. Or were you?
"What are you doing up? I was hoping you'd stay the night at least," he asked, caressing up your arms in an all too affectionate way. "Really?" Now your head and heart were really torn. One way telling you to just let go, go back upstairs with him and just relax, have fun. But logistically, what if it didn't work? Then you'd have to return back to the unit as just another one of Jay Halstead's conquests, tarnishing the reputation and respect you'd fought so hard to gain in the first place. Pulling you out of your thoughts, he tilted your chin up initiating the eye contact he so needed to gain your trust. "Yes, I didn't just invite you out tonight for friendly drinks. Can't you see I like you?"
Retracting back into yourself, a confused look settled on your face. Not once in the thousands of scenarios you'd ran through your head was this a possibility. Him rejecting you, ignoring you, even humiliating you in front of the rest of the unit, those are the things you'd imagined, but not this. Your brain was struggling to comprehend the situation as he stood before you looking so genuine. He liked you? YOU!
Silence rang heavy through the air as you stood there working out what to say, your mind searching for the right words. "I don't understand, you want me?" Mumbling over your words, you somehow managed to form a cohesive sentence, watching as his face pulled up into a smile. Jay was surprised at the self-deprecating words that left your mouth, here stood a person so perfect in his eyes that he could fault a single thing, and yet you were surprised at his like for you. "Of course, I want you. Now how about we go back upstairs?"
Giving in, you let him grab your hand, leading you back up to his room to spend the rest of the night showing you just how much he liked you. Because maybe Jay Halstead was different from what you'd imagined after all.

In the heat of the moment, your place sounded like a viable option, but it seemed your judgment may have been a bit off. Not only was the parking a nightmare and the place a total mess, you'd forgotten entirely about the person that was your roommate. Your house share was a situation of convenience really, both lacking the funds to live separately. And so with the sheer speed at which you were willing to move in, had the unfortunate circumstances of your living situation occurred. But, you hadn't always had such a complex relationship, in the beginning, you'd been friendly enough. You'd take turns cooking for each other, partake in the occasional movie nights and on multiple occasions she'd even invited you to tag along to a night at the bar with her friends. Things had gone south from there though, her once nice attitude had turned sour within a matter of hours, leaving your friendship broken without the possibility of ever being repaired. What had occurred that night that caused such irreparable damage you would never know, but still, you tried to be as civil as possible, going about your life without the need for conflict. It never occurred to you that bringing Hank back would be such a problem, you had your own room and were respectful of any boundaries she had set out. But as both of you came bounding through the door, smiles plastering your faces without a care in the world, her voice rang through the air, bursting your once perfect bubble.
"Y/N! What are you doing? I thought we'd established, no visitors on weekdays!" Screaming from the top of the stairs, she narrowed her eyes at you, completely disregarding the man beside you. Not only were you completely mortified at her lack of respect for you in your own home, but also for Hank, who awkwardly stood beside you not wanting to add any more fuel to the fire. Not caring about the consequences of your words or actions, you continued getting comfy in your own home, taking off your outdoor clothing while encouraging Hank to do so also. This woman was not going to ruin your chances of securing a date. "If you're going to create rules without me knowing, then expect me to break them." Grabbing the Sargeants hand, you quickly pulled him upstairs, giving a small wink to your roommate as you headed in the direction of your room.
Slumping down on your bed, you gave Hank a small smile, an apology that the night you'd expected to go so well had brutally turned in the other direction. Mortified by your roommate's actions, you stared up at the ceiling, embarrassment radiating off your body as you thought about what had just occurred.
Hank on the other hand felt quite amused by the situation. He, in the past, had experienced a situation quite similar, also having an equally distressing tenant reek havoc in his life. And so he wasn't going to let you dwell on it, instead laying down next to you, grabbing your hand to encase it in his own. The gesture comforted you slightly, thanking the stars he wasn't angry at you for ruining the evening. At that thought, tears pricked your eyes, your fresh start had been compromised against your will, and again you would have to find a new unit to join. You wouldn't be able to bear the thought of seeing him at work each day, the memories popping up at the sight of his face. And if he told the others in the team, god you'd be the laughingstock of the district. Y/N Y/LN, the person who tried to get with her boss and failed miserably.
Pulling you out of your thoughts, Hank held your cheek, rubbing away the tears as they fell.
"What's going on in that pretty head of yours?" He questioned, a comforting smile playing on his lips. "Im sorry," you cried, hiding your face in your hands. "I ruined everything by bringing you back here, and I made you feel so uncomfortable by including you in our drama, and you probably just came here to sleep with me and now im crying." Babbling on you failed to notice the amused grin that now graced the man's face, how you'd gotten everything so wrong. "Hey, hey, listen to me, you haven't ruined anything at all, if anything it was her fault, she had no right to intervene in your business." Pulling your hands away from your face, he proceeded to tuck your hair back exposing your red eyes and runny nose. "A-are you sure?" You mumbled back surprised at his actions. "Yes, I shouldn't have asked to come back here. You deserve a proper gentleman, someone whose willing to take you on a date first. I’m sorry if I made you feel otherwise." Tugging you towards him, he brought you into his arms, smiling down at your sad face. He'd never been one to sleep with someone before going on a date, and God did he want to take you on a date. In the heat of the moment, he'd just been so desperate to touch you he'd forgotten his traditional values, something his father had always drilled into him from a young age, that women were people to be respected. And to him, you were someone more than special, someone who deserved way more than just a one night thing. "Maybe we should just forget this all happened. Tomorrow morning I’ll take you on a date to my favourite place in Chicago. Sound good?" "Sounds perfect."
In the end, that night didn't go to waste. And so as you drifted off into a content sleep tucked up in the man's arms, you thanked the universe. Because although it works in mysterious ways, sometimes a bad situation will have a very good outcome.

"hmm, yours?" "sounds perfect," he replied standing up, grabbing your hands to pull you in close. Pecking your lips, he moved away to grab his belongings quickly, before wrapping you up in his arms and guiding you out of the district.
You were glad you'd chosen his place that night, knowing all too well how irritated your roommate would have been had you picked your place. Regardless, you knew your night couldn't get any better, realising that this man had completely rocked your world, and turned your life upside down within a single day. Not only had you started in a new unit, but you'd also met him, spending the night of your life at his place. Everything had seemingly just fallen into place.
Waking up, you groggily wiped the sleep out of your eyes, opening them and allowing yourself to observe your surroundings. Propping up on one arm, your confusion subsided as the memories of the night before came flooding back to you, a small smile filling your face at the thought. Feeling an arm on your waist, you turned around in his hold, looking down to see the sleeping man below you. Lowering yourself back down face to face with him, you reached your hand out to slowly trace over his features. Grabbing your hand quickly, he lazily blinked his eyes open, a smirk playing on his face. "Morning Sweetheart," he rasped, pulling your hand in and kissing your palm. "Aren't you a sight for sore eyes," he followed up, proceeding to pull your hand further, your body rolling on top of his.
Leaning down, you kissed him sweetly, smiling against his lips as you realised the situation you were in. First day of a new job and you'd already managed to sleep with your boss. God if your mother could see you now, she'd be lecturing you on how wrong this was. But how could something so wrong feel so damn right? Trying your best to ignore the persistent thoughts, you focused back on the man in front of you, watching as he reached up to push your messy hair aside. "Could say the same about you, not in my wildest dreams did I expect to be in bed with the infamous Hank Voight one day after joining his unit," you groaned at the thought, leaning down into the crook of his neck hiding over the ridiculous notion.
You were not oblivious to his reputation, most of the cops in Chicago knew about the hard-headed Sargent. And although you'd come into the unit with a neutral opinion, it was hard to ignore. He definitely went against some rules, and used methods beyond what was expected of the police, but sleeping with an employee? You didn't think that was on the table. "Hmm, so you've heard of my reputation?" he mused, raising an eyebrow, "what do you think? Does my reputation proceed me?" Although you hadn't seen much in your day of working at Intelligence, what you had come to realise was Hank Voight was not a dirty cop for monetary gain like many, instead did so to protect the ones he cared for. Olinsky was like a brother and Halstead a son, and so protecting them only came as naturally to him as any family would, watching out for their own. "You're not as scary as they make you out to be." "Huh, good to know they still think of me as that, the title can only get you so far," pulling you back down next to him, you again laid face to face, heads both buzzing with thoughts of what came next. For you, it was fears of favouritism, would people still give you respect if they knew what had happened? And what if things didn't turn out ok? Would you have to leave the unit to find another?
For Hank, it was much easier. He'd spent the better part of a decade waiting for someone new to come along. Someone who wouldn't replace Camille, but repair his heart and restore that feeling of love he'd once felt. Was it the best that she worked under him? No, but the universe works in mysterious ways, and Hank could only be grateful that his time had finally come.
"Let me take you on a date, give us a proper chance of starting something good," he suggested, trying to ease the nervous tension radiating off of you. Despite the turmoil in your head, his proposition had calmed your nerves significantly, your mind relaxing at knowing that this would not just be a one-night thing. And although a future relationship with him would be complicated, you somehow knew that it would be worth it in the long run. Because why throw away something good before it has even started?

Lately I’ve had alot of requests and asks to continue on my choose your lover series, and so I’ve decided I’m going to try and write so more of it in the next few days. However because of the nature of the series, it’s quite a lot of parts to write all at once (8 in total). So comment down below which chapter you would most like to see be continued, either 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 or 3.4. The most commented will be the first to be written and then I will get to the other parts. Hope that makes sense. :)

Guaranteed
Tumblr media
Guaranteed - @midnightsconspiracy
Summary: Sometimes life is not guaranteed, neither is Hank Voight
Warnings: None
Word Count: 787
Requested: Yes!!
Hey, I love your work, honestly, you're my favourite! Would you mind writing something for Hank Voight? Something to do with the quote "I love you and maybe one day I'll be what you need, but I can't wait forever. Even if I want to." You can decide how it ends, I trust you 💕 I saw this quote and somehow it reminded me of Hank!
A/N: Um... so it's been a while. I have until September off from uni so hopefully I'm going to publish a lot more content, so stay tuned! :)))
You knew he loved you, that he really did love you, and that deep down the connection between your souls truly did belong together. But there was always a thought stored deep down within your heart, that questioned whether he was ready enough to move on, from Camille, from Justin and from his past life. And despite his claims that he had accepted the past and was ready for a future with you, you knew the truth of it all. He was still grieving the loss of the two most important people in his life, even if they had died years ago. And that was ok, because you loved him, and you would allow him the time he needed to process the events properly, even if that meant you leaving.
The thought weighed on your mind for weeks constantly, should you stay to help the man you love grieve another woman or should you give yourself a fighting chance of finding love with someone who was ready to love you equally? With each passing day, your inner conflict continued to brew, going back and forth between both conclusions. One minute you'd make your mind up just for it to change the second you saw him. Your whole life felt as if it was falling apart, pulling you down into a state of sadness and confusion. But it would take only one evening for your decision to finally be made, allowing yourself to gain the clarity you needed.
Throughout your relationship, Hank had always insisted he would rather spend time at your place, rather than his, giving you a multitude of excuses about why his place was off limited. It was either he wanted you to feel comfortable being in your own space or his was not very welcoming or his heating had broken, something always came up. To others, it seemed a little suspicious, but you knew what Hank was like, he was a private man, had his own business on the side, thus you just respected his wishes, no questions asked. And so when the chance of visiting his house had arisen, you had jumped the chance, just wanting a little sneak peek into your man's life. Although the only problem was you hadn't quite been invited, instead instructed to visit the man at his residence under the orders of Platt, in order to give him some necessary police files.
Knocking lightly on the door, you waited patiently outside, listening for any noises coming from within. After some faint shuffling and mumbles, the door swung open, revealing the stature of your confused looking boyfriend.
"What are you doing here?" Hank asked, eyebrows furrowed at your unexpected appearance.
"Trudy asked me to give you these, can I come in?" Deciding to forgo his answer, you pushed the files into his hands walking straight into the house. But instead of being greeted by a warm home as you'd expected, your reason to leave harshly slapped you into reality. In front of you stood a large wall, adorned with photos of Hank's old life, his wedding day, his child's birth, Justin growing up, Camille's last days. But none of you, none of the hundreds of photos you'd taken over your five-year relationship.
And although you'd known this would be the case, seeing it in person really made you understand the gravity of the situation, you could never compete with her, not now anyway. The future, maybe, but you couldn't waste your life holding onto a hope that was not guaranteed.
Turning round to face the man, you bought his face into your hands, watching him as he became more confused by the second. Just looking at him made you want to break down in tears, tell him it was all worth it, but you knew it wouldn't be fair on either of you and so you pulled yourself together knowing this was what's best.
"Hank," you softly spoke, trying to hold in the tears that were pricking at the corner of your eyes.
"I love you," stroking his cheek you relished in what could be the last moments you'd ever have with him. Swallowing thickly you continued, wishing the lump in your throat away.
"Maybe one day I'll be what you need, but I can't wait forever. Even if I want to"
And despite the lack of context in your words, he knew exactly what you were talking about. Because no matter how much he loved you at that moment, he couldn't watch himself hurt you anymore.
Pulling your hands away, you looked at him one last time, memorising whatever you could, before walking away to an uncertain future, a future in which Hank Voight would never be guaranteed.

Realisation - @midnightsconspiracy
Summary: He always took for granted the things he had before they were gone
Warnings: Death
Word Count: 886
Requested: Yes!!
'Voight x Reader. The reader is on the force with Hank but not only that but they use to date years back. When they’re out for a call the reader sees the suspect about to shoot Hank. So she smoothly pushes him out the way and takes a bullet for him. The whole crew believed she would be fine but once they got to the hospital Jay brother made it clear that the reader might die and suggests they say their goodbyes. Hank refused to say goodbye but stayed with the reader at night after work. I will let you decide if the reader lives or she dies'
A/N: Wow it's been a while! Life update - I started uni and I'm absolutely loving it although I am swamped with work. And as fitting as it is with all this police stuff I'm studying criminology!
SORRY FOR THE REPOSTING, ITS NOT TAGGING CORRECTLY
Working with your ex was not an ideal situation, to say the least. Especially when it wasn't a fresh breakup, where both parties still were in a stage of longing, wishing they had back what they'd previously lost. But you'd still push through regardless, you were a professional after all and you'd do what you had to do, despite feeling heartbroken every time you walked into the bullpen.
It was a sudden breakup between the two of you, an emotional fight over some stupid mistake you'd made in the field leading to a flurry of tears and slammed doors. Usually, this sort of fight would see Hank sleeping on the sofa for a night or two, but with the tensions already high at work from the pressure that was being put on the unit, the cracks started to seep into your relationship as well. Even now both of you refused to apologise, both too stressed or busy to have the much-needed conversation. And so that's where you were still, fleeting around each other as you worked side by side, leaving the team around you feeling equally as awkward at the avoidance of eye contact between the pair.
As much as you loved the job, this particular case was pushing you to your limits. On top of the intense workload, an extreme amount of pressure coming from higher up, this specific case had been similar to the trigger that had set it all off. Along with the stress of working it, every bit became unbearable, both of you spiralling, blaming the case and all the people involved. On the one hand, you became closed off, not wanting to talk about anything or anyone, whereas Hank became angry, taking out his emotions on any colleagues or perpetrators in his line of sight and as much as you or anyone else hated to admit, it was bound to cause some type of accident.
Alas leads had been found and plans had been made, the team rolling out to a crackhouse on the south side of the city. Everyone was aware of how unpredictable these men would be, but no one said anything, all too afraid of the consequences if they overstepped the boundaries. And so everyone dispersed amongst the house with little communication, just waiting for something to happen.
You could see the gun being lifted in slow motion, aimed towards the man you once loved, and in that moment the only thing you could think of was protecting him. You're instincts took over then, compelling you to move forward, shielding his body from the oncoming bullet. And so the whole world stopped right there and then, not just for you but for the rest of the team as well.
The hospital, previously empty and silent from the lack of patients, was sent into a frenzy, multiple doctors rushing to your side to aid in the support of your life. Hours passed and the team sat watching, waiting for any updates, but the same answer always came back,
"They're in surgery."
The team was optimistic though, you were a fighter, stubborn as a bull, and no one knew that just as much as Hank did. 'You would make it,' he kept repeating in his brain, over and over and over again until the only thing he could think of was what he was gonna say when you woke up. How he would tell you he loves you once again, finally get you to come back home.
But reality struck in the form of Will Halstead, pulling Hank out of his trance and back into the real world.
"It's not looking good, we're not optimistic that she'll make it past the night."
Taking the sombre walk to your hospital room, all the memories came flooding back to him, how'd you'd spent two good years of your lives together as soulmates. And although the last year had been spent apart, nothing made the man's heart palpitate more than the thought of you. But now he was having to conjure up potentially his last words.
Hank was a man of little words but now his brain filled with all the things he could say and so as he entered your room, he could finally express the things he'd been too stubborn to say.
"Y/N," he whispered, brushing your hair away from your face.
"my girl, God what did you get yourself into?" he asked, lovingly stroking his fingers over your cheek.
"Why couldn't you have let me take the bullet so I'd be in your place instead? I...just wish I would have told you what I was thinking sooner but I'm so stupid and god damn stubborn. I love you so much and I don't think ive ever told you enough, but this won't be our goodbye, you cant do this to the team, to me!" Pausing he took your hand into his, taking a deep breath preparing for the worst.
"You will always be my soulmate" he muttered out as the sound of flatlining surrounded him, tears slipping down his cheeks as the reality of it all took over, you were gone for good. And in that moment his world was plunged into darkness and he decided from then on he would never take anything for granted ever again.

The Other Woman
Tumblr media
The Other Woman - @midnightsconspiracy
Summary: She had always been there despite him telling you otherwise
Warnings: None
Word Count: 709
Requested: Yes!!
'The reader comes to the station to bring lunch for Jay but when she goes upstairs she sees Upton and him really close smiling and laughing. The reader has already told Jay how she tells about how close h and Upton are and he reassures her that they’re just friends. And she believed him but right then and in that moment they didn’t look like just friends. The reader hands Jay his lunch and leaves making up an excuse.'
A/N: I’m back at it with another Jay fic!!! Repost because of tagging issues
Jay had told you time and time again that you had nothing to worry about regarding his and Upton's relationship. He had spent what felt like hours reassuring you they were just friends, colleagues, people who worked together, nothing more, nothing less. But your mind still never eased, they just always looked comfortable together, a little too much for your liking. You understood that they spent a lot of time together, they were work partners after all, but what you didn't understand was how friendly they acted, both in and out of work. You had colleagues you were close with, most people did, but just not in the way Hailey and Jay were. You'd only witnessed their interactions a couple of times, though each separate encounter coaxed your anxieties back, filling your head with the horrible images of Jay cheating and leaving you. It would go like clockwork as well, seeing them together causing that feeling to resurface, becoming reclusive in yourself and ignoring Jay for as long as possible, finally leading to Jay cornering you to reassure otherwise. It was getting tiring, you loved Jay too much to do anything about it though, but you felt like such a pushover, letting him do whatever he wanted despite your feeling. And as much as you hated it, you didn't know how much more of it all you could take, for both your sanity and heart.
Today had been a decent day for you so far, it had been spent in relative quiet, relaxing and preparing lunch for the two of you. Jay had snuck out that morning, needing to get to work way before you had woken up. And as much as it disappointed you that he wasn't there when you had finally opened your eyes, you understood why though, he has an important job after all. After packing up the lunch you'd made and texting Jay of your plans, you hopped into the car driving towards the precinct. Greeting Trudy at the front desk, you caught up on some of the police gossip, arranging to meet up in a few days before heading upstairs.
Once you'd gotten to the top though, instead of seeing your boyfriend happily greeting you there was Jay and her, flirting away as if you never existed. It wasn't as if they were just laughing and conversing as they usually did, instead Jays hand held her waist in place as they observed the computer together. This was your limit you decided, why did he feel the need to touch her? He was her friend for fuck sake, you were his girlfriend after all, not her!
Walking towards his desk, you dropped the prepared food, turning around to leave and escape it all. Confused at your sudden exit, Jay rushed towards you, following down the stairs in order to stop your departure. Catching your arm in the car park, he gently spun you around, trying to get you to look at him and explain what was happening.
"Im done Jay, with you and Hailey and your constant flirting!" You shouted tugging your arm out of his grip and continuing to walk towards your car.
"What are you on about Y/n? She's just a friend, I've told you this before!" He reasoned, confused about what was happening.
"Telling me one thing and doing it are two different things!"
"Nothings going on between us!" In Jay's mind, there was nothing wrong at all, he simply was messing around with a friend not flirting with her as you suggested.
"Sure it isn't, don’t get me started about the constant flirty talk and touching," you argued back wanting him to know it truly was his fault, that you were willing to deal with friendship but this level was too much.
"Y/N. please you know that's not true!" Tears filled his eyes as he knew what was to come, he never wanted this to happen, he really did believe that his friendship was innocent no matter what her feelings for him were. Nothing he could say or do would change your mind though, and as you got into your car to leave you muttered the word Jay wished he'd never hear you say.
"Im done Jay, I can't deal with this anymore"
