FFxiv 30 Day Writing Challenge
SEPTEMBER 1st - 30th, 2023
Welcome to YEAR 7 of our annual FFxiv 30 Day Writing Challenge, folks!
Last year we had 11,165 total entries! Which brings us to a total of 42,947 unique written entries over the last 6 years. That is just incredible! And something that I think that we should be super proud of as a creative fan community.
Whether you're new to the FFxivWrite community or a 6-year writing challenge veteran, if you'd like to give perfectionism in your creative writing process a swift kick in the butt, then this challenge was designed for you!

Here’s the gist:
Runs from September 1st - 30th, 2023. During that timeframe:
Visit sea-wolf-coast-to-coast once a day at 12:00pm (noon) PDT for the prompt of the day. Convert to your timezone accordingly. All prompts will be one word or brief phrase that you can interpret however you please.
You have 24 hours to write something for that prompt.

There are no length or skill requirements (short & sweet is fine!).
There will be no 24-hour deadlines for the first week, September 1st - 7th. The deadline will go into effect on September 8th at 11:59am PDT.
Makeup/extra credit days every Sunday.
Every entry posted within its 24-hour deadline will count toward a participation prize raffle at the end.
You can join any time with any prompt #! There’s no need for latecomers to start with prompt #1. Picking up with the most recent prompt is A OK.
If you’re an artist and you would like to volunteer to do a simple black & white illustration as a participation prize at the end of this challenge, you can volunteer here!

🍟: What does your OC admit to be their guilty pleasure? What actually is their guilty pleasure?
As with many versions of Zexx, alcohol is always a problem for all of them. It would be a pleasure for sure but he would only say it is a guilty pleasure.
His actual guilty pleasure would likely involve hard and fast relationships that burn out like matches for brief but strong moments. One day he'll get a proper 'lantern'.

A thin hand would come up to touch one of the gold hoops in his ears with a sad smile. "Oh yeah, got these for my birthday one year long time ago."
"They're very nice."
"Yeah, it was very surprising to receive," Zexx nodded to the fellow patron as much as himself. "Back then, birthdays were mostly just for a nice meal and quite a few to many drinks."
"You must of meant to a lot to them."
"And he meant a lot to me. You want another? Cause I'm gonna definitely need a few more."

"Oh the questions I get sometimes," Zexx let out his own well worn chuckle as he smiled to Alice and got comfortable again. "When will we arrive? Are we there yet? Is this still good? Do you work here? Can't you get this to go any faster?"
The sailor shook his head with a sigh. "The level of privilege some people present is astounding to me. Economy is pretty good here in Eorzea but come one now. Some of us have got to work for a living, give us a little respect."
He would sit quietly as she expressed about where she was studying and the life in the libraries. His former jest feeling a bit hollow and accusatory as he turned his gaze to the sky in hopes of avoiding his embarrassment. The idea of tossing himself over the railing sounding a bit appealing as he nodded along with her, the growing embarrassment growing as she mentioned being a foundling.
"Hey, I'm sorry I didn't know or I wouldn't have said something like that," Zexx tried to cut in a bit but grew quiet as she continued about the found family she had with her company. A slight smile returning to his face as she mentioned them, feeling his own heart swelling at panging at his own found family. Granted many were in the wind along with a special few that likely would always be beyond that horizon. "Sounds like you got a pretty protective crew waiting for you back in Ishgard. It's a good feeling having someone waiting for you at home."
Her next questions caused that pang to grow a bit louder as Alice poked about his own family. It was only fair as he had fired the first volley in such a line of hard questioning. "My folks? My parents and family are just farmers back in Gridania. Growing mushrooms and cleaning up the forests. Nothing to spectacular."
"My Pappy though is or maybe was at this point, was a pretty good blacksmith that my younger sister was working under," Zexx continued, surprised at his own openness about his personal life but it felt good to talk. His hand slipped into his vest to pull out a small sheathed black pommeled knife, the hilt wrapped in aged and sweat stained cord. "She made this for me before I left."
A deft hand would flip it over a few times with practiced timing as he offered it to her if she wanted a closer look. "To say they were less than pleased about me leaving would be an understatement. But we all gotta find our own path, and mine sure isn't in the dirt."

Zexx’s hand would casually reach up to scratch at the back of his head as he did his best to stifle a yawn. "Sorry bout that, oxygen to the brain ya know? So your folks alright with you travelling so far out from Ishgard? I mean the Honeysuckle isn’t exactly a pirate ship, but it’s definitely a jump from the quiet of a study or library.“
“What a ridiculous question,”Alice snickered.“Wouldn’t people realize they had arrived when the ship is at least in the process of docking?”
She shook her head emphatically and snickered a moment longer. Despite her incredulous acceptance of the jest, she did peek over the side discreetly and considered the demise that would await anyone who might throw themselves from such a height. This minor mental tangent kept her quiet and contemplative for just a moment before she gave him her full attention again.
“Oh, hands on learning is superior in a lot of ways,” she said with a faintly dreamy sigh.“I can occasionally grow bored and rush a lesson that I am self-teaching, and…well…that has led to some conjuring and summoning mishaps in the past. Of course, one could argue that mistakes teach a person a lot as well.”
Alice offered a shrug and took pause to consider the structure of his follow up question. The word “folks” seemed to confuse her a moment before she was able to draw upon past uses of the word. Her smile remained but she shook her head slowly.
“I’m a foundling,” she chuckled.“An orphan. I grew up in the Holy See and I don’t know my ‘folks,’ but if I did, I like to think they’d have faith in my ability to protect myself and make wise decisions. It wouldn’t really matter, though. I can no longer be satisfied in quiet libraries. I can barely stand a quiet room for an hour, honestly. The family I have now, the company I work with, they encourage me to get out. In fact, I am sure one or two of them will travel by Aetheryte to check on me during this trip.”
Given her own feelings on the question, she spent a moment with it before looking up at him and reflecting it back to him.
“What of your family? Do they express thoughts about your daring lifestyle?”
