On the August 15 episode of JTBC’s “Ask Us Anything,” CNBLUE’s Jung Yong Hwa, Lee Joon, Jeong Sewoon, and UP10TION’s Lee Jin Hyuk appeared as guests on a “friends” special.

During the show, Lee Joon and Jung Yong Hwa shared that they had been friends for 12 years. Lee Joon said, “I was a trainee at the company before Yong Hwa. I heard that an ulzzang [someone whose photos become popular on the Internet for their good looks] from Busan was coming.”

Jung Yong Hwa continued, “The director came in and told us to leave the company and then left the room again. Joon whispered, ‘This is our chance. Let’s go.’ I was still unsure, so he said, ‘Okay, I’ll go first. You can follow.’ He left in a cool way. But I really had nowhere to go. I couldn’t go back to Busan. I sat there anxiously for about three minutes until the director came back in. He said, ‘So you really want to do this, huh?’ He said, ‘You can practice hard starting tomorrow.'”

Jung Yong Hwa continued, “Joon wasn’t training to become a singer at the time. He was training to become an actor. He was the first person I saw when I came to Seoul. I thought that he was the standard of a Seoul person. With his style and long hair, he looked like someone I had seen on TV. I thought Seoul people were so cool. We went to karaoke together and he had a strange pride in his vocal skills. He asked if I could sing and I said, ‘Oh, only good enough for karaoke.’ He suddenly asked me, ‘Can you sing ‘She’s Gone’ [a song known for its very high notes]?’ I said that I’d never tried, and he selected it right away. He wanted to be an actor, but it felt like he wanted to win over someone who was training to be a singer.”

Lee Joon said in surprise, “So it ended well?” Jung Yong Hwa said, “Yeah, it ended well.” The cast asked if that had been the end and Lee Joon joked, “That was the last time I saw him.” When asked if he had been mad that Jung Yong Hwa had not followed, he said, “No, we kept in contact. Strangely, I was training to be an actor and he was training to be a singer, but I debuted first as a singer in MBLAQ and he debuted first as an actor. He called me one day and asked, ‘What are you doing?'”

Lee Joon and Jung Yong Hwa also shared how they had come to part ways within their agency. Lee Joon said, “There was some trouble with the company.” Jung Yong Hwa rebutted, “It wasn’t trouble. We were in the wrong.”

He explained, “I was 20 years old at the time and I wanted to drink. We had grilled pork belly and soju. But it turned out someone from our agency saw us. The next day, we were called in to report at the agency. I think Lee Joon had a mind to leave the agency at the time. He whispered to me, ‘Let’s leave.’ I protested, ‘I’m from Busan and I don’t have anywhere to go.”

Jung Yong Hwa said, “The only time I heard him sing was ‘She’s Gone.’ But then he debuted as a dance singer.”

Asked why he had debuted as a singer, Lee Joon explained, “I had lost my direction at the time. But then I was lucky enough to meet Rain. I followed a friend to an audition and Rain saw me and said, ‘You remind me of me.’ He asked me if I could sing, so I sang. He asked me if I could dance, and I danced. He said that I reminded him of his younger days. So I suddenly became a singer. I called Yong Hwa, who was struggling at the time, and said, ‘Join me in MBLAQ.'”

Jung Yong Hwa corrected, “He called me and said, ‘I’ve joined an agency and Rain is in it. Do you want to join me here?’ But he was looking out for me. Of all the people I’ve met, he’s one of the people I’m closest to.”

Lee Joon has officially resumed his activities in the industry following the end of his military service!

After being discharged from the military on December 19, Lee Joon took over the airwaves the next day as the new DJ of the radio show “Young Street.” He takes the baton from his girlfriend, actress Jung So Min, who hosted the show for the past year and ended her run on December 15.

Lee Joon said at the beginning of the show, “I’m sitting in front of the mic. I hope that I will be a sincere person in front of the mic.” He admitted that he didn’t feel familiar yet with conveying his thoughts and sharing his feelings on air, but he promised that he’ll be able to get closer with everyone every day.

He also shyly addressed the camera and said, “I also listened to ‘Young Street’ a lot. I’m nervous to be doing this but to be honest, since I came to the studio a lot when I was a singer, it doesn’t feel strange to me. I think this will be fun.”

A listener commented that his hands seemed to be shaking as he held the paper, and he replied, “I tend to get nervous easily. It’s been 10 years since I debuted but I think I haven’t totally adjusted to this world. When I’m acting, I get nervous in emotional scenes too. Although it doesn’t show on screen, I get a cold sweat on my back.” He said that he wasn’t simply nervous because it was the first day, clarifying that he’d be nervous if it was recorded and not live as well.

Lee Joon was asked how the people around him reacted to the news that he was going to be a radio DJ. “There aren’t many people around me,” he replied. “My reaction was ‘I can do a good job.’ The thing that I was most confident about was being a DJ. Although I might be nervous since it’s the first broadcast, when I was a special DJ I felt warm and like I was being healed.”

Many overseas fans wrote in to congratulate Lee Joon on his first day as a DJ. When a fan from Mexico left a comment, Lee Joon replied, “When I went to Mexico, I wasn’t able to do my fan meeting properly because of a large earthquake. It was very dangerous. I hope we see each other again in the future.”

He also said, “I’ve returned after two years and two or three months, and it’s touching that people have continued to like me. I feel even more grateful than I did in the past.”

MBLAQ’s Mir candidly revealed the special treatment celebrities are given.

Recently, on his YouTube channel MIRBANG, Mir posted a video about the kinds of special treatment celebrities tend to receive.

Mir started, “I do wonder if special treatment is necessary, but I am grateful about some things, so I will talk about them first. Of course, there are some things that make me happy, like when I go to restaurants and [the owners] give me complimentary food because they recognize me or they don’t want me to pay for my meal. However, I’m sure no one thinks of it as a given and just goes, ‘Okay. I’ll be on my way then.’ Of course I pay, but I’m just thankful for their kind words.” Mir also shared that celebrities get discounts when they buy something and expressed his gratefulness for it.

Then Mir opened up about the wrong kind of special treatment. He said, “For example, [it’s wrong] if I go to a cafe while filming something and cut in front of the line just because I have to go quickly. Or if I’m late and the airline is understanding about it. Honestly, I don’t think we should receive special treatment about these kind of things. There are some celebrities who think they should naturally be treated that way then. If that happens, it’s not good for any of us.”

Mir also spoke up about the “special treatment” that feels really frustrating to experience. He shared, “One time, I went to a bar with a friend. I don’t drink though. Some older men recognized me and told me to come over. They were already talking informally to me. I really wish people won’t do that even though they’re older than me, but I try to understand it and not dwell on it too much. I don’t want to quarrel about such things.”

He continued to tell his story of how the men made him pour them a drink and then they poured him a drink in return. He told them he wasn’t able to drink, and they got angry at him. He added that there are many obstinate people like that.

Mir revealed there are also groups of people where a few of them will be like, “Oh, it’s Mir,” and that one person will loudly ask, “Who is he? Is he a celebrity?” He shared his frustration at how there will always be that one person who purposely speaks loudly about him in a rude manner. He admitted, “Even though I don’t want to think about it, I honestly don’t feel great. Their sarcastic tone makes me unhappy.”

Lastly, Mir said, “There are many articles nowadays. Unlike before, there are many things you can encounter. There are many different types of media. It’s a world where you can see everything on your cell phone. It’s a world where you can leave a comment with it, too. Please write nice comments that will make everyone happy. [It would be nice] if you could encourage them.”
