So, is Five canonically a doctor of philosophy? 🥺 That's such a, I don't know, melancholic inquiry?... considering everything that has and hasn't happened to him, and I bet he still justifies it internally as a purely pragmatic requirement to find the ultimate equation

You're absolutely right. Five sees himself as a villain. But I think he feels like there's no hope for him or/and he's just smarter about dealing with it. I also think Five had learned the hard way to remember his mistakes. (Among other things) He didn't share information about the first apocalypse because he had dealt with things alone his entire life and his siblings were practically strangers to him at the time, but he knows that not doing so led to consequences that could have been avoided so he changed that in the 60s. I also think that, although Five is not resentful, he is somehow hurt by the fact that Viktor was the only one with whom he tried to share the idea of the apocalypse, showing him unconditional trust, which turned out not to be reciprocated.
Either way, yes you are so right, they can afford to lie to each other because the stakes are high af. And even though he loves Viktor so much, Five wouldn't risk the safety of the entire family and the world for him.
That scene is truly superior to anything else in S3. In fact, I was VERY surprised because at that point it was already done with it. It was very faithful to the characters and carefully written. It's the only scene I enjoyed from start to finish that season.
Five's conversation with Viktor was one of my favorite scenes in season 3 so of course, I have to analyze it, specifically the following quote:
"If you need anything, I'll always be there for you. But if you lie to us again, I'll kill you myself."
Five was alone for 45 years and that made him desperate to the point of becoming an assassin. Earlier in this conversation, he warns Viktor about becoming a villain by acting alone, maybe because that's how Five views himself.
My interpretation of Five's final sentence to Viktor is that he's saying that this family is a team and they can't afford to lie to each other. They will also always be there for each other, Five included. Lying to them might cause Viktor's death, either by Five's own hand or maybe by something else that's a consequence of Viktor lying.

!!!!! Never
I will NEVER forgive the writers of the umbrella academy for completely erasing the Dave and Eudora storylines
(i love Lila but patch was really important to Diego)

This is my controversial take:
1. Lila (by far) Lifelong training by the commission + special training by the handler. She obviously didn't used her powers that much. Very smart + the crazy factor.
2. Diego. trained by Reggie + boxing and police training. Very disciplined. Accustomed for years to street violence, hand-to-hand fights, surprise attacks, gangs and solitary combat.
3. Ben (sparrow) was trained most of his life by Reggie, best physical condition nqa, BUT I don't think he was used to solo fights and he relied too much on his powers and sparrow gadgets.
4. Five. elite commission training but only for about 5 years or less?? and who are we kidding? He thinks he's too smart to be taught. He takes what suits him and does things his way in the end + Body of a child and depended like... (see previous point) HEAVILY on his powers. I just think it will be very difficult for him to adapt.
5. Allison. Very smart, combat experience and I believe that life in the 60s gave her an edge, greater will and resilience and strengthened his physical capabilities.
6. Luther. Long training with Reggie but I think he lacks street smarts and general cunning. Depended too much on Reggie's guidance and gadgets.
7. Klaus. I guess some military training? But I agree, he is the most pacifist of all.
8. Viktor. I think he has an explosive nature, so he would be more confrontational than Umbrella Ben (or even Klaus).
9. Ben (Umbrella) he is just soft af. The best of them all.
Ranking the Hargreeves based on how strong I think they’ll be without powers:
1. Five - I mean, he’s a highly trained assassin and has experienced the most out of the siblings
2. Luther - He’s pretty experienced in fighting and whatnot
3. Diego - Same thing as Luther
4. Allison - She seemed pretty aggressive in season 3 😟
5. Klaus - He definitely doesn’t seem aggressive or violent but would fight good if he had to
6. Ben - He’s too cutie patootie 🥺
7. Viktor - I’m only saying this because he wasn’t trained like the others were, I think he’d be higher if he was trained

[ID: a drawing of Allison and Five sitting with their backs against each other, dressed for some kind of Mission. Allison is wearing a cropped leather jacket over a jumpsuit with a giant belt buckle, and Five is dressed in a purple three piece suit. Next to them is a duffel bag and a baseball bat with nails hammered into it. Whatever they are sitting on is not pictured; instead there's a blue rectangle approximating its location. End ID.]
sometimes you get out from a long day of committing crimes against your ex-dad's weird new supervillainous corporation and you gotta stop to get a coffee
bringing back my patented "drawing people sitting without drawing whatever it is theyre sitting on" technique
