Just watched the Critikal video on this and then heard about the comment made by Shane's wife that was out of touch and ... my god.
$6 a month on a subscription service based on one Youtube channel is not worth it in any sense of the word. Many users already pay for Youtube premium, and like Critikal said in his video, with the Watcher's income from things like their patreon tiers + the advertising partnerships they make, it's not as if they're not making any money.
Dropout gets a pass because they launched a subscription service that works for their users, they have plenty of content that makes it worth the cost, they often have offers on their costs and urge users to make the most out of the codes/promotions/free trails/discounts so as to save as much money as possible, and most importantly, are transparent about how much they support and encourage the use of account sharing for those that simply can't afford to pay subscription charges. They also put plenty content on their pages for free, like recently dropping Fantasy High season 2 on Youtube for free so people could watch whilst they continued season 3 on their own service. They have so many hours of free content available that fans feel good about wanting to support them and purchase their affordable subscription. Not to mention, they've done a lot for various charities and organizations.
Statements like '$6 a month is affordable for everyone' or 'people don't want to pay for things' are disgusting, honestly, and only reveal the true colors and intentions of those saying such things. It's a money grab. People can barely afford to meet monthly payments let alone pay for multiple affordable subscription services these days, what makes a service based on one channel worth it?
It's also not a good look to be complaining about people not wanting to pay anything on your same tumblr blog where you brag about paying over $100 on a tote bag, or $55,000 alone on a wedding venue, or about how your workers drive teslas to work. Only makes your fans and subscribers wonder where their money is going.
