I abhor the idea that heavy women should stick to conservative clothing options. I am big and I love bold. But there is not much that the big brands in India offer when it comes to plus size clothing. Doesn’t bother me. I’ve done some homework to put forth a list of 8 wardrobe must haves for plus size women. Till I get those ‘made in just my size’, take a look at the list:
Plus Size Denim Jacket
Doesn’t cost much, looks great, and rocks all seasons!
Denim jackets are easy, no-fuss style! Plus-size denim jackets can be teamed with checkered shirts or simple spaghetti tops. Mix and match your jacket with dresses or shorts.

Or, you could do just the opposite.

Little Black Dress – Plus Size
This one is an absolute must. Choose a fabric that suits your comfort and style. Carry this black dress with a pair of wedges – golden, red, or orange. Depending on what occasion you are wearing it for, pick from one of the style options:

Palazzo pants are all about comfort and a complete chic look. Pair these with a tee or a peplum top. Or, you could also wear them with a long ethnic kurti.

In a career that can hardly boast of great cinematic endeavours, there have been movies & performances where Shahrukh was so good that he stopped being an actor, and became a man most of us grew up as, or grew up with, writes Rohit Raina
Heartthrob, superstar, and a bloody good actor– all these things coexist happily in Shahrukh Khan, the actor who comes with open arms and romantic monologues blazing. That said, even the most ardent of his admirers are clouded when asked to comment on SRK’s acting abilities. UNFAIR, when you consider the assortment of roles he has donned in his long and illustrious career. FAIR, when you consider that such roles have been agonisingly few and far in between.
And that ‘in between’ has been filled with ludicrously lurid dumbs like Ra.One, KANK, Chalte Chalte – colossally disappointing those who like both, SRK and good cinema! Alright, these movies ‘sell’, but it’s high time SRK gives up these decrepit excuses for making miserable movies. Entertainment and humor is needed, but in sane doses.
Hold on, didn’t the title suggest something else? Yes, crucify me! Even though, I believe we haven’t seen the best of Shahrukh Khan yet (not consistently enough, at least), but there have been performances where Shahrukh was so good that he stopped being an actor, and became a man most of us grow up as, or grown up with:
Darr (1993)
For a lot of fans, nothing beats Shahrukh’s devilish, denatured turn in Yash Chopra’s blockbuster Darr. Give SRK a role that brings out the lunatic in him, and trust him to knock that role out of the park. Too bad, he stopped doing such roles – so much for the fear of being stereotyped.
Veer Zaara (2004)
The young Veer was just fine, but its SRK’s turn as the imprisoned Veer, made old by the tire of time, that makes you sit up and take notice. It is not the first time you see a young actor playing a wrinkled, old person, but few have done it with such a rhythmical charge.
Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1993)
Admit it, somewhere in the corner of your room, under that blanket, you did shed a tear, you did want the anti-hero, Sunil, to win his lady love, Anna.
Baazigar/Anjaam (1993)
If Baazigar was a story of a young boy consumed in revenge, Anjaam was a tale of a baleful and love-consumed lunatic burning down the limits to suit his goddamn crazy, obsessive love-lust.
Swades/Pardes

Easily his most underrated roles, both movies saw a restrained Shahrukh Khan, coming out of the skin of a lover boy (even though Pardes was a love story) and living the characters as they would live, if alive.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995)
What can be said about a movie which has made its way into the hearts of anyone who apparently has a heart! Shahrukh’s Raj allowed himself a love feast, and in the process, created a gift for the not-so-romantic us.
Devdas (2002)
Kaun kambakht bardaasht karne ko peeta hai never gets old. SRK’s Dev grabs you by your heart till you concede.
Josh (2000)
Make room for Max, the leader of the Eagle gang. The “Maidaan ka yeh baanjoo apun log ka… “ was played on TV day in and day out, and we couldn’t get enough of the biker dude Sharukh doing his stuff with the chain and all the mambo jambo. Though, there were inevitable comparisons with Aamir of Ghulam, there was no denying that SRK played ‘Max’ by his own crazy – brilliant – terms.
Dil Se (1998)
The appetizing combination Shahrukh-Mani Ratnam didn’t disappoint (it didn’t set the cash registers ringing either). Playing the character of Amarkanth like a gathering storm, Shahrukh again shred his lover boy image to pieces as the programme executive for the All India Radio. Dil Se was an anti-formalistic flick with songs that raised the story a few notches higher.
Chak De India (2007)

Three signs you are watching a Shahrukh Khan movie: it’s snowing at the entry, there is a relentlessly loud background score throughout, the most dramatically cheesy lines are reserved for the always open-armed Rahul. Did you see those signs in Chak de? No. Was that the only reason it was good? It sure was one of the reasons. Chakde India’s Kabir Khan was the most refreshing role of SRK. Period.
Fan (2016)
After a decade of worthlessness, since Chak De India, Shahrukh Khan finally gave us what we were so yearning for. A performance that stretches him on his farthest limb and shows us something we haven’t seen before from our King Khan. Gaurav Chandna has left Rahul behind!
Shahrukh Khan is a self-aware superstar who exults being a superstar. And the afore-mentioned roles are a huge scream to connoisseurs who dismiss SRK as ‘just a superstar

With each being pit as the antithesis of the other, ‘good cinema’ and ‘cinema for the masses’ are least likely to cross paths. If you’re a Bollywood superstar, you are more likely to be endorsing the latter.
There is enough evidence to suggest that our superstars prefer an inflating bank balance over acting accolades, which explains why they’re mostly busy doling out mediocre stuff, hiding behind the decrepit alibis that movies are to be made for the masses.
But there are exceptions to the rule, like the name that starts off my list.
Raj Kapoor
The most underrated actor by a considerable wingspan, Raj Kapoor, in my opinion, has carried the stigma of a tireless Chaplin imitator all his life, and beyond. Oddly enough, it never seemed to bother the man himself.
The blame for Raj Kapoor being viewed by this generation as merely a filmmaker/actor who resorted to titillation and clownmanship rests solely with satellite channels, which don’t air RK movies except for Sangam, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Mera Naam Joker and the likes. It’s movies like these that have imprinted on our minds an image – that throughout his career, RK was either acting up like Chaplin or objectifying women from behind the lenses. The real Raj Kapoor, from the forgotten gems of the 50s, was an actor par excellence.
The bona-fide RK classics that deserve a far bigger audience seem to have been lost in the sands of time. Kapoor’s acting prowess can be seen in at least a 50 movies where he wasn’t imitating Chaplin. Seven of the best performances that come to mind are:

Hrithik Roshan
The world remembers how the Roshan lad became an overnight sensation, sending women all across the country in a tizzy, back in 2000. Since then, he has starred in several blockbusters that have made him and his distributors richer. And thanks to a certain Kangana Ranaut, he hasn’t been out of news over the past 3 years (not necessarily a good thing). But do the advocates of intelligent cinema consider him worthy? We haven’t heard them reciting homilies in his name, especially in the face of monstrously bad films (the very Shaktiman-ian Krrish 3) that Hrithik keeps on rubbing in our faces.
But none of it disproves that he is a very skilled actor who, albeit in small doses, has proved his mettle more than once. The list below is a living proof.

Kunal Khemu
Spunk, natural acting, and versatility, all of these happily co-exist in Kunal Khemu. Not many in the internet-verse would admit it about this dynamite of talent.
Despite all of this, Kunal Khemu’s career has never really taken off. Khemu can get under the skin of the character he plays seemingly effortlessly. But unlike Akshaye Khanna, who is often a subject of compliments, Kunal’s acting prowess has largely been unnoticed and unappreciated; this and the fact that his multi-starers do earn moolah is why I have included him in the list.

The word ‘Nepotism’ may have found its footing in Bollywood just recently, but Bachchan Jr. has been subjected to the silver-spoon barbs from nearly 2 decades now. While I am of the view that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with you following your father’s footsteps and him helping you get a start, but that’s a debate for another day. As for Abhishek Bachchan, here’s a fine, fine actor who’s struggling owing to, among other factors, his unconventional looks.

The King of Romance has another throne to worry about – King of superstars who don’t garner a lot of respect for their acting prowess. While this statement may not have been accurate a decade back, those who have mostly followed SRK through duds like Chennai Express, Raees, Dilwale, and so on have no reason to believe he is an actor worthy of his title. There was also Fan, but a ridiculous setup obscured what was arguably the boldest and one of the best roles in decades.
