Summary: WX-78 and Wormwood get to know one another better as the Survivors establish themselves more fully in the Constant, and they grow closer than anyone could have expected. ——— This chapter is written for the prompt "Lightning / boating," and the song quoted for the chapter title is "If I Could" by October Project. Chapter 2: Wormwood is much better with water, it’s true, but WX can handle a little lightning. And, if they’s clever about it, the dark. (WAY TOO MANY WORDS to establish why WX and Wormwood would be in a boat! I had fun getting to write WX being badass and sweet, though. And I really love writing how both of them talk.

Anyway, someone (probably both of them) wasn't paying quite enough attention to their sanity, so Wavy Jones. And also, if anyone's curious, the survivor pairs that went off sailing were Wilson and Maxwell, Wigfrid and Warly, Walani and Wolfgang, and Wortox and Wickerbottom. Everyone else stayed back at camp and Winona stuffed WX full of healing and both of them full of sanity regen the moment they stepped back into camp.

Also, just as a note since they probably won't be major enough characters to put this in the tags: I use she/her pronouns for Wilson and Maxwell, and they/them pronouns for not only Wormwood but Webber and Wes as well!) @wxwood-week

I'll be adding in new tags as they become pertinent! This should end up being 6-7 chapters total. All of these will be interconnected short fics, taking place in order, written for wxwood week 2022 (@wxwood-week) on Tumblr.

This first chapter is written for the prompt "April showers / may flowers." The song quoted for the main title of the fic is "Pretty Baby" by Vanessa Carlton; the song quoted for this chapter's title is "Stonefruit" by Halou.

Chapter 1: WX has some thoughts about Wormwood, and sees them in bloom during their first spring with the survivors. (A few notes for the fic overall! I write Wormwood as nonbinary; they rolls with whatever pronouns the other survivors use for them, because they just likes all the words and doesn't understand even a little bit what a gender is and never will. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I also headcanon the survivors as having a central base but also spreading out among individual camps that are fairly close by (less than a day's travel at most) so they don't have all their eggs in one Deerclops-vulnerable basket, as it were. Wormwood is less than an hour's walk away and their entire base is a garden, which does include bee boxes and a lureplant field; they chose a forest real close to a field with Beefalo in it!)
