this week i borrowed The Hunting Moon by Susan Dennard from the library. i read The Luminaries last year and really enjoyed it, and i enjoyed book 2 just as much. it’s a very easy read with loveable characters and a very cool world.

first read of 2024… *:・゚✧*:・゚✧ re reading Ned Vizzini’s “It’s Kind of a Funny Story”
i haven’t read this in about 8 years. it was in 2016 and i did a comparative essay between this and “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” for year 11 english.
i think i’m loving it more this time around, because when i first read it i very much so shared craig’s headspace, and couldn’t see a way out. but now i’m on the other side, looking back, and this story is bringing teenage me a lot of comfort. *:・゚✧*:・゚✧

i am currently listening to Britney Spears’ book, The Woman in Me on spotify and so far i’m feeling… a lot
i’ve been a Britney fan since i was a kid. i remember making up dance routines to Circus and wanting all her perfumes 😂 i was heartbroken to hear she was going to be forced into a wrongful conservatorship, and even more heartbroken learning about how abusive those 13 years were for her.
i’m so glad she’s out and that she is refusing to be silenced any longer. she seems so at peace with her life, her body and her artistic expression and i’m just really happy for her and proud of her.
this whole idea of child stars is a joke and these kids need to be protected better. look at cases like Amanda Bynes, Jennette McCurdy, Drew Barrymore and so so many more. it’s alarming, it’s abusive and it should not still be happening. conservatorships on healthy, successful young people isn’t protection, either. it’s abuse. all these childhood traumas don’t magically go away as an adult. these insanely talented people are left battling for the rest of their lives and it’s just so unfair. nobody deserves a life like this.

I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy
i have been meaning to read this since it was released last year and am embarrassed to be so late to the party! 😂
jennette mccurdy is one brave woman, and i found her raw words and unapologetic delivery nothing short of inspiring. i listened to this as an audiobook on spotify, and i’m so glad i did because getting to actually hear jennette mccurdy tell her story was even more powerful. this book made me laugh, tear up and boil with anger, and i look forward to what she brings to the writing world next.
