The surprising revelation that the sleeping Zelda from Zelda 2 is in fact not the Zelda from Zelda 1 who got hit with a sleeping spell between the games, but actually a totally different character, has now made all my Zelda compilations incomplete. Sorry I guess for thinking that these were the same girl:
Going forward I want to treat them as separate characters, but that does pose the problem, drawing the same design twice is boring so how am I supposed to draw them? Even their sprites are similar.
I could try to work with any of the designs from the manga and novel adaptations (from historyofhyrule.com), like I noticed in a previous post the artists back then went wild and just drew whatever so the designs are certainly different. However I don't have any reason to pick any of them over the others and they are so obscure that I might as well design an OC.
Granted I don't differentiate between the toon Links and Zeldas from different games either, but I think this case is different since these Zeldas exist with the same Link and in some manga adaptations are even in the same panel together.
I think I'll keep the OG Zelda as she is, and do a similar design but with a red dress and darker hair based on the sprite for the Zelda 2 one, at least she only has one palette in the game itself.

Linktober 2023 #3: Companion.
I really like how after such a lonely game as botw you got to take on the temples with a buddy.

Now the question is, which game to do next? I'd prefer it be something enjoyable this time. During the time I was trudging through Zelda 2 I managed to acquire most of the zeldas I haven't played yet through mischievous and wicked means so there's a lot to pick from, if I manage to get them working.

Finally made it through Zelda 2 and I can see why this game has the reputation it does. There is actually a pretty cool adventure under it all (for its time at least), but the stupid difficulty makes it impossible to want to explore anything. Save states were absolutely mandatory to get anything done at all, but it also resulted in me not really engaging with the magic system when instead of using the defensive spells I would just reset when I took any damage. The biggest contribution of the game was its story, which wasn't even in the game itself and had to be read from a manual. Dark Link at least made some sense story wise, in OoT his appearance was cool but pretty random.
Also a new enemy joins the Zelda 1 wizzrobes in the most annoying enemies ever hall of shame and it's this guy:
An absolute menace. I see that the variant that can jump from the final dungeon is listed as the hardest enemy in the game, but honestly I had a lot worse time with this one.

I have been slowly making my way through Zelda 2 and it's finally time for the final dungeon. Hoo boy just looking at the map has me worried, this game does not mess around!
Whichever game I play next better be easier.

An interesting bit in the manual of Zelda II is that the dungeon enemies are a separate force from the overworld enemies.
The overworld enemies are Ganon's followers that want to resurrrect him with Link's blood.
But the Dungeon enemies were actually placed/created by the King of Hyrule to test the Hero and protect the Tri Force Of Courage from evil. They also have heroic origins like the Stalfos being the skeletons of Hylian knights and the first horseheaded boss being created from the King's horse!
Also do you mind spoilers for the Ran Maru manga, I didn't understand your last response and for that that, I apologize.
It's a shame that none of this stuff is in the actual game because the experience would be more tolerable if there was at least some story to be found, but I suppose that's because of technical limitations.
I think I'd prefer to read the manga first myself before commenting on it!

I didn't get to do any Linktober art last October when it was topical, but I assume there's no hard rules for it so I did my own a bit out of season (using the 2023 prompts). The plan was to draw art that wasn't a character just standing there, which didn't quite work out for all days since towards the end I started to run out of steam and just get over with it, but I did learn something at least. And the other plan to include every game I had played at least once was successful!

For the release of ToTK
I was in charge of the illustration at 8 am Beijing time for the totk release commemorative 24-hour illustration relay project that I participated in on Weibo.
It’s a fanart of Zelink wearing Hateno village outfits.
