i’ll try to say this the best and nicest way possible, but i think one of the main causes for so many of the discussions in the acotar fandom today is that people have consumed so much fast media that they have forgotten how to differentiate it from books that don’t fall within that category.
don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with fast media— books that are a sit down, read easy, get up. but the thing is that, for that model to work, authors need to make sure that the readers are not leaving the book unsatisfied. if the reader finds too many plot holes, or if they are left with more questions than they had before when it’s clear that the author doesn’t plan on expanding them in the future, they are frustrated. and so those books won’t sell. the solution is, obviously, to “spoon-feed” the reader with the information. scenes can be analyzed by themselves because the author always makes sure to include explanations for what would otherwise be unspoken. surprises are these dramatic turns, because often there is no in depth foreshadowing. what is is either said or explicitly thought, and so the reader knows it all.
again, nothing wrong with it!! there are multiple books that i love that would fall into this category. however..... i feel like some people are having an increasingly harder time separating the expectations you have when going into a fast media book versus a book that is part of a series that has been slowly building up for years. when observing a series such as a court of thorns and roses, you are not supposed to know everything about everyone— the lack of certain knowledges regarding certain characters (esp. mor or elain) is not a “plot hole” or “lazy writing”. you are simply not supposed to know it yet!!! i think that people expect all nuances to be talked about or solved as soon as they are presented, when that is just not the point of a series. for example, of course you don’t know much about elain?? she was written in an incredibly vague manner on purpose throughout the series. of course she hasn’t dealt with her seer powers or rejected the mating bond because what sense would it make for her to do that in a book that isn’t her own?? people just have to learn to wait
i think another impact is that, as i said before, in certain books, scenes can be interpreted in a vaccuum. in series such as acotar, doing so will only create a wrong interpretation of characters because their personality has been both spoken and unspokenly built throughout the books. for example, analyzing the extra bonus chapter from azriel’s point of view within a vaccuum would create the image of a character that is completely different than the image that would be created if you took in consideration his character construction in past books (especially the parts that are not outwardly said but still very clear). analyzing rhys’s character in acosf without considering the construction of nesta and rhys’s relationship would obviously create a character that is completely different from the one we have seen in past books.
yall can’t wait. yall can’t let things marinate anymore because you need all the answers now, and so you assume that the author has already given you the answers. this only causes for wrong interpretations!!

More fanart from Caraval. I honestly think I'll be doing those for eternity, Stephanie Garber just has my heart at his point.
Still a work in progress, but hoping I'll finish painting Scarlett!

although i do agree that both azriel and elain’s characters are mysterious, i truly believe they have this trait in a completely different way and elain’s type of mysteriousness is much more… peculiar. whenever i think of azriel, a lot about his character i think of smth that kinda resembles the iceberg theory— a lot of what is him is not said, but it’s still there. with elain tho, sometimes it feels like a sealed book — you know there is a book, and yet you truly know nothing of what’s inside

elriel elriel elriel
i had too much time on my hands and went back to some interviews to see if i could find some extra info that could indicate elriel and i'm screaming
ok so, first, when the og acotar trilogy ended and sjm pitched more books to her editor, it was settled on three novels and two novellas
(here's the post talking ab the interview)
one of those novellas was acofas, and one of the novels was acosf. this leaves us with two novels and one novella left.
recently, sjm confirmed that three of her og characters— elain, azriel, and mor— would get their story told. in that same interview above, she says that each book will focus on two characters together. if im not mistaken she talked about it recently too— each book is focused on a single couple, kinda killing any chance for a dual couple type of thing since it would probably be too much for a single book
a lot of people thought that this meant that elriel was happening, mor was getting her novel, and that the novella would be acofas style. other people said that this mean elucien, gwynriel, and morie were getting a book each
HOWEVER I WENT BACK TO THE KOA TOUR AND THIS IS WHAT SHE SAID
(here's the link to the highlights of one of the tour stops)
"Each book coming after the Nessian one will have their own pair, and at least one will be set 1,000s of years before Feyre and Rhys. They will come out after Crescent City."
Now, if one of the books (most likely the novella) is set a thousand years in the past, it means that we basically have two books for three characters in a series that each book focuses on only one couple. therefore, at least two of these characters have to share a book............. elriel is coming i can feel it

katniss in her “think fast not smart” moments is actually so fucking funny and when you add finnick to the equation it becomes even better. like when peeta hits the force field and finnick does cpr to save him, the only reason why finnick didn’t end up with an arrow lodged in his skull is because katniss was absolutely baffled that finnick’s first reaction to peeta being fried to death was to kiss him. katniss just thought finnick was making out with peeta. and her thought was “huh that’s weird even for finnick”
katniss and finnick’s relationship in cf is actually really funny because she just thinks that he’s really, really weird

STRONG AND STEADY
Aaaaaand I have one more sketch to share today (it’s been drawn some days ago but I couldn’t find any energy to upload it). So, @peacekatniss requested “Katniss & Peeta taking a nap” by my Buy Me a Coffee Cheese Bun and well, that’s what I can draw with my eyes closed lol. Ah, and to add some canon feels to it, let’s connect this sketch with Katniss’s beautiful words:
I press my ear against his chest, the spot where I always rest my head, where I know I will hear the strong and steady beat of his heart / cf, ch.19

Happy Old New Year!
Here in Russia we have tradition to celebrate Old New Year ;) Russia adopted Gregorian calendar only in 1918 and we still are kinda nostalgic for Julian calendar (Russian Orthodox Church still uses Julian calendar and that’s why we celebrate Christmas on January 7th). So today is the day! Old New year! Woo-hoo!
We always leave all New Year decorations until this day (or even longer) and I remember my shock when I found out that in many countries it’s ok to get rid of Christmas tree on January 2nd lol.
Hope you are doing well, guys. Have a nice weekend!
