Cheers to Heartstopper for being one of the very few teen romance shows that doesn't make a big deal out of prom. Like yes, the characters are excited about making a grand entrance with cute outfits..... But that's literally all there is to it. Prom isn't life-changing, it's quite frankly boring, as Charlie mentioned. I loved how the group ditched prom and went to Nick's place to have fun.

I love the way Young Royals portray social media and the way teenagers use it so well. Wille uses instagram to stalk Simon because he wants to know him and he has a (small, it’s kind of sad) folder of pictures of the boy he loves. August sees something on Simon’s story and it creates drama, and Wille sees Simon on a date through Ayub’s stories. Then we have Felice putting posts to create herself the public image she wants, even if it’s not the real her. She breaks up with August on her story because he cheated on her with her best friend and she’s a petty teenage girl who got fucked over by a stupid boy. You also have people talking about the video on social media and the students filming Wille’s speech because they probably want to be the one to make it go viral, or some version of that. You have the girls doing a fun TikTok challenge because even it’s fun and it shows their friendship. We have the girls taking selfies and August taking gym selfies. We have August sending Sara pictures of his chest and asking Sara for some pictures in return. You have talks about nudes and whether or not you should send them. There’s just. So much. Yet it’s just there.

In some shows they make teenagers use social media in the most obnoxious and unrealistic ways possible but this, this feels real. This is how people use social media, how they text, how they interact online.
