Unpopular Opinion: Twilight Edition
Have Leah and Jake discover a whole new world
Tumblr media
SMeyer's needs retcon a lot of shit. The way the tribe is depicted is very offensive, and what she did was the literal dictionary definition of cultural appropriation, and the way the indigenous characters were treated, was very racist. As a Twihard, I would very much love for her to fix the mistakes she made as well as properly develop some of the characters that deserve it.
I have said this before and I will say it again, but Leah and Jake were the surprise couple we should have gotten at the end of Breaking Dawn. I would have liked it if Jacob decided to break free from the imprinting, deciding not to go on a path that was decided for him, and deciding to create a new path for himself. I like the Idea of Leah doing that as well, and along the way, both seeing new sides of each other and really coming to fall in love with each other, but Leah knows she deserves more than to be someone second and doesn't pursue a relationship with Jake, but they become best friends, the story gives us an ambiguous will-they-won't-they ending.
When it comes to the Werewolves, Smeyer should retcon it so that anyone can have the werewolves not just quiletes, and add more people to the Packs of Forks. I like the idea that Jake and Leah decide to travel to find more werewolves, packs, etc. to see how many are left, to see how they live, learn, and appreciate other cultures, and lifestyles and how they have controlled their shifting, and their emotions, and what their adventure holds on their travels, this is where we start the new novels. Make it so that as time passes and changes, and so have Jake and Leah, they have grown into mature adults. Gives us the apology that Leah deserves, the care and love that she deserves, and then she and Jake get together in the end.

Victoria was a character with wasted potential character.
Speaking on the films.
I was fascinated when they introduced Victoria, a classic femme female. (Even though the Cullens are far from saints, we are supposed to believe they are the least morally corrupted.) They introduce the Cullens, people constantly fighting for their humanity, and then the Nomands, who have completely abandoned it, embracing the animal, the predator within, and letting it out; this is important because throughout the film, it constantly highlights how excellent Edward, his family, and their abilities and lifestyle are, showing us their irresistibility, and then we meet James, Luarent, and Victoria. This little interaction nearly gets Bella killed, and then within a few short days, she is strained from her family and friends; she runs away and is injured and nearly killed, showing the dangers of her being in this world and being with Edward and foreshadowing her possible future.
Rachel Lavreve was so good in the role with what little she had. She didn't even have to speak; you could see and feel the intimidation. She did so well with what she was given, they don't do much with her and neither does her newborn army. She is just there to talk and just killed her off, with no real purpose or meaning.
New Moon is by far the best film, but even then, Victoria still feels like a background character; knowing James's Backstory, I have learned that James never loved Victoria. That would have been a great plot device for Victoria within New Moon, the compare and contrast between Bella and Victoria; Two women manipulated by two men who constantly put their lives at risk, only to be heartbroken by said men that left them, Bella believing that Edward didn't love her, and James always choosing the hunt over her, Victoria finding out he never did lover, and how this heartbreak and THEIR OBSESSIONS had led them to ruin their lives and the lives of others, but where Victoria does not sympathize for others, have Bella.
In Eclipse, they should've used Victoria and the newborn army as a wake-up call for Bella, use them as a way for Bella to see just the Darkside of what it was to be a vampire/a newborn; she sees how feral, corruptable, and unprincipled they are and witnesses both Victoria's and Bree's death sees just how this could be her. She is likely to end up leading. She realizes just how dark how, depressing, and dangerous it is to be a vampire, but instead, and also this could have been a way to see just unhealthy her and Edward's relationship actually and that Victoria was just the other of herself, Edward is James, and Riley is Jacob; Like Victoria, Bella did use Jacob (in the beginning), And she didn't want Jacob to end up like Reily, and She didn't want to end up Like Victoria.

This Might Be a Bit Biased...
Tumblr media
So The Twilight Saga started When I was 9 and ended when I was 13. I only became aware of it when New Moon was coming out and Burger King was promoting the hell out of that film, and I saw Jacob on the poster of their windows when I realized...this...was...SharkBoy. I couldn't believe how much he had grown in just a few years; I couldn't believe he was in this massive film. That being said, it is not a secret Twilight had as many haters as it did fans. You had the fans, who would stalk the cast because they loved the Saga, and then you had the haters attacking them for their disgust, coming for the actors, their capabilities, their looks, etc. It is safe to say both sides were doing too much. But not just the fans the critics were especially harsh.
But after Twilight ended and slowly but surely lost its relevance, people started to see that many of the actors involved in Twilight were not bad; they were just working with a "mediocre" script that stemmed from the "mediocre" source material. Everyone except for a few, one of those being Taylor Lautner. Now, to be honest, I was actually aware of Taylor's career long before Twilight, "SharkBoy and LavaGirl," and "Cheaper by the Dozen 2," although they are not great films, they had unique places in my heart when I was a kid; I am speaking on this because I do not think Taylor is a Bad actor, or at the very least not as bad as people make him out to be.
Watching Twilight, I did have some critiques; Taylor is neither intimidating nor the best compared to Rob and Kristen, and don't get me started on that rain scene in New Moon. However, re-watching the Twilight Saga repeatedly, I see the range in Lautner's performance and know he can do more. In past interviews, he stated that he always felt that acting was something he should do. If that were true, then the criticism he got from Twilight should've been taken seriously, and he should've listened to it; maybe he got an acting coach and taken some acting classes.
It is heartbreaking that compared to Rob and Kristen, which people will probably always do, his career isn't even on the same scale anymore. He took a break from the public for a few years, but I hope he did try to focus on his craft in time. He is now married and starting a podcast with his wife, which is pretty cool.

Unpopular Opinions: Vampire Edition
Tumblr media
Most Vampires should not be parents. It would be extremely hard and Dangerous.
Speaking on Vampires in Cinema
Many people ask the question, If there are vampires who want kids and can't have them physically, why don't they just adopt? We see this in Twilight with Rosalie and in The Vampire Diaries with Elena, two maternal women who did not want immortality. After they were turned against their will, they were left heartbroken when the option for parenthood was taken away from them.
Yes, adoption would have been the next option. And We have seen that most vampires are well off, whether because of their abilities, their wealth, and/or their mentality; it can be done. But the thing is, we have seen what vampires are capable of, and what could happen if vampires have not had complete control of their thirsts, strengths, and impulses.
In New Moon, Bella cuts her finger on wrapping paper which sends Jasper into a frenzy; this leads to Edward forcefully pushing her against the wall, injuring her even more, and causing even more blood to occur, which almost sends the rest of the vampires into a frenzy, then in Breaking Dawn, Rosalie almost gets into a hysteria when Bella is in labor. Children always hurt themselves on playgrounds, in the house, with paper, etc. Children, especially babies, are also incredibly fragile. And even then a vampire, without thinking, could hurt the baby, child, etc. or worse, with just the with just the pinch, since in common lore, they have increased strength.
And we have seen in many paranormal media that the supernatural world is incredibly small; in Twilight, Vampire Dairies, Interview with a Vampire, and many other media, many other vampires or superpowers have no care for human life. Many covens and packs are in a constant war, and many supernatural beings consider the human lives harmed to be collateral damage or they are sometimes used as bait; human children in this situation would get hurt or worse.
The only time we see parenting work with the vampires is when the children are supernatural themselves. Many Vampires are vicious, and would teach that to the children, everyone knows that turning children into vampires is the worst decision ever. A vampire child is incredibly dangerous, has no restraint, and would unpredictable. Much in Interview with A Vampire, Claudia was ruthless constantly killing, not being taught anything else, and not being able to stop, and forever being a child in this mental state.
And say in a perfect world, if vampires were ableto take care of their human children unscathed, kids with parents who have superpowers and who don’t age, wouldn't be able to keep that a secret. I mean, yes, kids say weird stuff like that all of the time, but in these types of movies and shows, there is always that one weirdo who actually believes them.

So I Just Re-Watched the Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Film and....
This Movie did not age well....
Tumblr media
GIF by decisiontoleave
Like it is NOT Good. There some good things in it, and I actually like the film, but it is still NOT GOOD. But it does make me sad because, I absolutely loved the book, and they had changed so much, which is very disappointing. However the things that i liked still made me want to see more. Even though it wasn't exact, this was still going to be one of my favorite book franchises brought to life.
Yes, you can say this movie did bad, because it was bad, but there are many movies out there that are bad and do really well, cause at the end of the day Cinema is subjective. But one of things that i liked about the film were some of the actors. From Jamie Campbell Bower, to Lena Headey, to Aiden Turner, to Jared Harris, they were all so great. I'm not gonna lie though, Lily Collins either tried her best or just didn't try at all, because her acting in this film was rough, like i was getting high school play with her line delivery, the same with Robert Sheehan, it just felt that he was at some points trying to hard to seem nerdy, i hated his accent, and the actors who played Alec & Isabelle, the fact that they tried to make us believe that they were teens was hilarious.
The script was not the best, like some of the things that the people were doing and saying didn't make sense. Amanda the Jedi, pointed out herself, when she asked, why would this demon let this girl, who can see this weaponizing rune, in the club, and worse, why would he go into it and when Clary says "I don't remember anything she'd want me to forget," girl, that's the idea. And the music was definitely of its time, it was okay, that's it. The jokes were not clever and seemed a bit forced, but the ones they gave Jamie, he executed them pretty well. Many plot points in the film, were just to abrupt, the movie was much too long, some scenes felt rushed and forced. A lot of the romance was very corny, but Lily and Jamie had pretty good chemistry, so it kind of worked, and a lot the characters did not get enough development. The CGI is bad.
The main reason why I think this film did not do great, was because it was made much too late. This film came out in 2013, that was right when the Twilight Phenomenon was ending, and when Twilight ended, so did the YA Adaption craze, no really cared about it anymore, because at the end of the day it was all of the same tropes. Another thing that i think the movies got wrong was that it was clear they were trying to make the film more Twilight-esque, which is something that a lot YA films and books were doing, because Twilight was so successful. And the thing is many people think the Twilight films were horrible but they did amazing, but what the studio failed to realized was that this film, was based on books, that were based off of Harry Potter, specifically HP Fanfiction.
And yes the film, i think does a pretty good job at capturing the aesthetic of the books, and how like in HP, i think COB did an okay job portraying the fantasticalness of this discovery of a new world, which is something the Harry Potter films did beautifully. I know there was a show, but i did not like it. Now do I think that these books are perfect? absolutely not, but I do think they deserved, better quality then what they were given, film-wise? Yes!!!
I know the movie is not good, but it's fun and deserves a big-budget adaption, whether a film or a show. And I have a soft spot for this film, It might be because I love actors so much, so I actually wish that this movie got sequels; I want to that it had a bigger audience. Because of these books, this world has a rich lore that deserves to be told.

I might be the only one, but...
There was always a part of me that kind of wished that Jackie and Eric would’ve hooked up. Hear me out, hear me out. I did not want them to ever get together romanticallynot at all, I loved Eric and Donna. However, there was always a part of me that kind of wished that throughout the many breaks Jackie and Kelso had, and maybe during the break that Eric and Donna had. There was a moment where they were both kind of vulnerable and sad, and they open up to each other and talk. And they kissed and things happened.
And then the morning after happens, and things are kind of awkward and know they’re kind of avoiding each other until, Jackie finally like confronts Eric about the night before, and she states that she doesn’t regret it and Eric says the same thing, but they realize that they can’t tell anyone in the group because it will make things even more awkward, so they decide to keep the same relationship they have always had, but now they know that they genuinely do care about each other.
Now it has been a long time since I've seen this show, and I do believe that is incredibly underrated when it comes to other shows like friends. That being I do love this show, especially the ealirer seasons, and I hated that god-awful last season.

Bella should have named her baby Phoenix...
speaking on the movies
here's the thing; in the first movie, she talks about how much she will miss Phoenix to the point where she takes a cactus out of state (which is illegal in Arizona.) She grew up there and loved it there, the heat and the sun.
The Pheonix of greek mythology symbolizes the immortality, renewal, the sun, rebirth and Renegade and Bella are not like other vampires; Both are new to the Cullen Clan. Bella is a shield incredibly rare, and she has super self-control; she states that he was born to be a vampire, and Renegade is a hybrid, she is warm, and she glows, like the sun.
When she was born, it was at a time when Bella's whole life had changed; she was no longer a daughter, a student, or a child. She was a wife and a mother; the old Bella died, and the new Bella was reborn; she was immortal like a Phoenix, stronger, more independent and when the baby was born, the new Bella was born, and Renegade represented that.

Meadow would have been perfect, it was special for the couple, so many events happened in the meadow, good and bad, and it was like their sanctuary.
me: you know what fuck this!!! I’m tired of bella and edward content/discourse!!!! they’re boring!!!!!!!
also me: but if they had just named their daughter meadow her name would have been not only unconventional but CUTE and RELEVANT to their relationship and NOT named after characters who bella didnt seem particularly CLOSE to by the time she got PREGNANT

Unpopular Opinions: Twilight Edition
Tumblr media
Jacob and Leah were the surprise couple we should have gotten at the end of twilight.
Yes, I am glad they ended up becoming cordial in the end, but I would have been happier if they had been in a romantic relationship.
In Breaking Dawn, Jacob sees a new side of Leah, a new side of her that he respects, and I wish for a new side that he would have ended up loving. I hoped that he would have seen how he and Leah were not so different, and he apologized for how she was treated. And she apologizes for taking it out on him And sees that they have a lot more in common.
But to me, although Jacob ending up with Leah does seem a bit cliché, and he (along with everyone in that franchise) didn’t deserve Leah, and she deserved more than being someone’s second, but there dynamic, also made more sense. They were both loyal; Jacob loved her brother like his own. When they were not on good terms, he was protective of her because he was protective of everyone in his circle. After all, it was right, and even though they didn’t like each other at first, at the end of the day, she was in his pack; she was family. Like, everything that Leah endured, he ends up going through as well, in a way (Even though Jacob does so many wrong things, I cannot lie and say he hasn’t been wronged too.) Like her, no one seems to sympathize with the fact that he is heartbroken; he takes it out on pack, and like her, he ends up becoming out-casted because of it.
And the fact that Leah can see everything that he is going through it makes sense as to why she doesn’t like Bella because she saw the times Bella rejected him; she saw that Jake was in love with this girl even though he knows it will never happen, she saw that Bella knew how he felt and just led him on. She saw that the unhealthy obsession was ultimately going to ruin his life, and in a way, almost did, and she understands loving someone you can not have, and to me, in a way, she is kind of protective of Jake. Yes, Jacob didn’t deserve her, but I have liked it if Jacob started to realize that he needed to grow up and move on.
I would have loved to have him and Leah imprint on each other, if not be romantic soulmates, but then best friend soulmates; they look up to each other, and Leah guides Jake to be better, as does he to her.
Or instead of imprinting, they both break the cycle, fall in love on their own terms, and leave forks together.

Although I do love the Wedding Scene, in Breaking Dawn Part I, it is a breathtaking scene, a stunning wedding, and a very romantic setting. But There was always a part of me with that thought: Is this something Bella really wanted?
Tumblr media
Speaking on the movies
Watching the scene repeatedly as often as I have, I noticed that Bella does seem out of her element (Yes, you can say she is just nervous, she is a shy 18-year-old at her wedding). Still, she does seem out of her element when I think of this scene, for me it parallels to her prom, not only did she initially not want to go, Edward made her, and the dress she wore was not even hers, it was Alice's.
But re-watching Breaking Dawn, I see everything repeats itself, except Bella putting in her own input; at least at prom, Bella was able to find a way to make the outfit comfortable for herself (with her little converse.) But here, Alice is constantly telling her what to do even though this is her wedding; nothing seems like Bella, the dress, the shoes, the decorations, and the whole wedding itself, she just seems uncomfortable. To me, Bella never seemed like someone who wanted to get married; she seemed like she would've been happy to just love Edward forever; she even says, "Marriage is just a piece of paper." It is not until Edward gives her an ultimatum that she "wants" marriage.

Although I am a DieHard TwiHard, I will be honest, I did not think there will ever be a reboot/remake/ spinoff, or at the very least, a successful one of The Twilight Saga films, and here is why. Even though I love this universe, when the book first came out, it was a big deal, even more so with the movies. These Films are Iconic in the best and the worst ways. Nevertheless, as time passed with the novels and films, as did the massive criticism, people either loved it or hated it, and it was a big deal until it was not. After the saga ended, it went on to become irrelevant. The actors moved on, the world moved on, even the author of the books herself, even more so now that everyone has called out the many disturbing things within them. Furthermore, we cannot sit here and pretend Twilight has left the same legacy as something like Harry Potter. Yes, like Harry Potter, The Twilight Saga was a huge phenomenon. However, the first difference is when comparing the quality between the two franchises, I think most people will probably say the same thing, "Harry Potter is Good, Twilight is Not." Most people will agree that the Wizarding World is bigger and better. The second would be it also grew in real life. Harry Potter has many theme park attractions and video games, prequels, expansion books etc.; (aside from the one Twilight ride in china) Harry Potter has become even more significant even after the original books and films with even more fans, much more than Twilight, so you cannot compare the two, except for the problematic nature of both creators, and the problematic contents with their stories. You would have to change so much, that it would not be Twilight, anymore. Moreover, even though Harry Potter is still a behemoth, they have tried and failed to have a comeback in film, the Fantastic Beasts films, and those are doing well, critically or financially. If Harry Potter could not make it work, how could Twilight? Sadly, Twilight had its time, it came, and it went. Even though there are still people like me, still fans of it, old and new. People still go to the filming locations; they still go to the real Forks, Washington; they still listen to the soundtracks; they still binge all of the films, especially after being put on streaming platforms, but it will always be smaller than it was, especially since like Twilight, YA additions are not as popular as they used to be, many YA films, especially the genre ones, all failed to be successful. Vampire Academy, Beautiful Creatures, Divergent, The Mortal Instruments, Fallen, TWICE, etc., could have done better. If they tried REVAMPING (get it) The Twilight Saga, whether it be another Film Series/TV Series, it would not work and would not do well. Twilight ran its course, and it is over; Maybe If they make it an Anime, that might do well?

Watching the Twilight Films, although I am Team Edward, throughout my page, I constantly talk about how much I wished the Twilight Saga would've ended with Bella realizing how unhealthy every relationship she has with the people in her life is. I always wanted Bella to realize her self-worth, drops Edward, Jacob, and Renee, focus on herself, and try to have a better relationship with her dad and/or her friends. But I realized that would never happen after her whole arrangement with the Volturi; she wouldn't be able to live everyday human life. If Bella does break up with Edward and decides to stay human, she will probably be killed by Volturi, or maybe seeing how he might believe the girl to be a valuable vampire, Aro might turn her himself. If she becomes a vampire in his court, she will be stuck with him forever, and perhaps she will hate being immortal, or to try and save her, Edward might form a team to battle the Volturi, like at the end of Part II. If somehow she can escape Volturi's grasp and stay human and leave Edward as Corinne says, she might be stalked by him for the rest of her life, and Edward could attract more vampires to her direction. It seems as though because Edward had no self-control, he had forced this life upon her, so now she is destined to be around vampires for the rest of her life.

Speaking on the Movies
Instead of Bella immediately forgiving Edward at the end of New Moon, I wish she would've realized just how awful he did her and her reaction to it and confronted Edward about how he treated her during their relationship and when he broke up with her.
When he said to her, "I lied, I had to lie, and you believed me so easily." That should have been when Bella stood her ground and realized that all Edward does is constantly control her, shame her, lie to her, and hurt her. She realizes that this relationship is not healthy. I wish that throughout Eclipse, Bella stays single, focusing on herself, loving herself, and loving her life while deciding on which boy she should choose or maybe not even choosing at all.
(I mean, she still has to stay around them because of Victoria) But she remains far enough to have her space but close enough to be protected. She decides to stay broken up, stays single, and focus on herself, her mental health, school, her friends and family, and her future.
