Johnny Depp has a huge Barbie Doll collection……

Some photos of my finished doll, unfortunately some of the ink has rubbed off her breasts from being in my bag. As you can see, many of the lines aren't brilliant as the sharpie is so thick but im overall pretty happy with how this turned out. If I were to do it again I would definitely invest in some thinner permanent markers so I could do more small details without messing up the design.

A photo taken in a charity shop when looking for dolls, as you can see there wasn't anything suitable and this was the case for most of the shops I came into. When I did find any dolls they were all extremely overpriced and often very tatty looking.

As you can see from the research that I have done and the photos that I have collected, I am into extremely heavy tattooing styles. My preference in tattoos has changed so much over the years from thin, precise line work to heavy blackwork. I've watched many videos on different styles of tattoos like traditional tribal tattoos from all over the world.

The most influential video that I have watched on tattoos was definitely the vice video on youtube about 'The Brutal Black Project' where tattoo artists push their clients to the very max with heavy line work done in a very painful way. A lot of the time the client has to be held down and restrained as the muscles spasm so much due to the extreme amount of pain being inflicted onto them. I'm extremely fascinated by this way of tattooing as the actual experience of getting the tattoo is just as important as the actual tattoo itself.

As practical work for this project I decided to buy some dolls from a charity shop and draw on my own heavy tattoo designs. I was so excited to start this as I love the contrast of a child's toy being heavily tattooed. Finding the doll was rather difficult as many of the toys in charity shops are stuffed animals which isn't what I was after. I was really hoping to find a large porcelain doll that I could cover in tattoos but I wasn't able to find one even though I went to every charity shop in town.

Once I had the doll I took photos of it and printed them out and drew out my design onto the paper. I then started to draw the designs onto the doll in fineliner but realise that the ink wouldn't stay on the plastic doll and would just rub off. I decided to use a black sharpie which worked well as it doesn't rub off much, however, the point of sharpies isn't very fine so I couldn't draw on much detail with the sharpie. Unfortunately because of this I messed up the doll's forehead and tried to wipe it away with some acetone but it wouldn't move.
