John needs money. He’s about to ask Sherlock for a loan but feels very awkward. (With bonus: licks lips instead of saying, ‘money’)
He gets interrupted by Sherlock before he can finish:
Sherlock turns down his advance and John accepts it for him:
But at the Van Coon crime scene, he makes one thing clear:
“I’m not desperate to root around some bloke’s dirty underwear”.
Basically, IN ASiP Sherlock turns down John. IN TBB John feels rejected and used. He does the grocery shopping and feels unappreciated.
Sherlock has clearly changed his mind since Angelo’s: John made an impression on him when he shot the cabbie. This whole episode Sherlock tries to back paddle and make John happy to no avail. He gives him his bank card, and makes him/them 45 grand in three days, John, however, continues dating Sarah much to Sherlock’s dismay.
John is very direct and likes things spelled out. Sherlock is not capable of directing expressing his feelings so he lets his actions speak for themselves.
He does not take well to Sherlock’s actions because they just blur boundaries for him which he does not enjoy. He doesn’t want to be toyed with. Basically, he’s into Sherlock but he’s not going to beg. He resents doing these domestic things because he feels like maybe Sherlock is exploiting his vulnerability: he put himself out there was rejected and now seems to be treated like a wife without any of the benefits. He’s not having it. Well, he’s having a bit of it, but, he’s got his boundaries.
John’s ability to stay calm under pressure only kicks in when the pressure is significant. Otherwise he’s a cranky, hungry three year old who skipped naptime.

there's a terrible injustice in the form of trf being my least-watched episode and therefore i always forget how good she is!!! anyway, in honour of this being the month for @victorianpining's the stories in our veins, let's consider:
please note that all quotes should be read as encompassing of a broader theme and not solely the line of text proper.
btw if you were curious. watching trf with tst imprinted upon your brain absolutely does add something special to the event. 🫶
So, last night I went to look at the flat. It’s pretty decent actually. Sherlock had already moved in so it was a bit of a mess but that ’s actually a nice change from where I was before.
And the madman himself? He’s fascinating…
Arrogant, imperious, pompous. He’s not safe, I know that much. I’m not going to be bored and I doubt we’re going to be arguing about whose turn it is to pay the gas bill or what we’re going to watch on the telly. And yeah, he is probably most likely definitely mad. But, he knows a couple of nice restaurants so he’s not all bad.
So yes, we had a quick look at the flat and chatted to the landlady. Then the police came and asked Sherlock to look at a body so we went along to a crime scene, then we chased through the streets of London after a killer and Sherlock solved the serial suicides/murder thing.
And then we went to this great Chinese restaurant where my fortune cookie said ‘There is nothing new under the sun. It has all been done before. ’ After the night I’d had, I beg to differ.
