Hello! I really love the texture and "lines" you can see in your paintings, like how even a large block of color isn't completely uniform/smooth? (Not sure what to call it)

I can't seem to do anything like that in my own paintings, I struggle a lot with trying to make things too even and neat, and everything always ends up flat and even without me intending for it to...

Do you have any tips for how to show those textures? (ex: your lipstick painting and how you can kinda see an outline around it in the white, or the pigeons and the various stroke lines) Maybe I should be using more paint, or a different brush might make it easier...?

The answer is always more paint than you think you need! I just put the paint color where it goes and don’t try to smooth it out. Maybe use a lighter hand as well so you don’t smush the paint as much? I can’t do the outline brushstrokes in acrylic the way I can in oils, but other than that, the approach above results in texture for me with both oils and acrylics. Hope that helps ❤️

Hi Leah! I'm studying painting and art on my own and I was wondering if I could use some of you art as references in my sketchbook. I'm not going to publish any of it, I just really love how you draw and shade reflections on glass, porcelain, food, etc. I want to practice shading and reflections in watercolor and if it's ok, use some of your work as a reference
