WWII Propaganda but make it Narnia bc it just felt right

Really digging the West End production of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe right now; looks like a really fun show! V jealous of you people in England rn who can see it bc I live not there

This mini project was inspired by its costumes, which nicely blend animal characteristics with WWII-era garb and uniforms (if you dont know what im talking about, do look it up bc its v cool). There's an overall vibe that the worlds bleed into each other so I thought it was a fun idea to explore the Narnian equivalent of wartime propaganda; please enjoy :^)

i hope people are aware that this is an actor-musician show too, so half of the people here are also playing instruments during the show; aslan alone plays at least 2 instruments: guitar and percussion; the understudy for the white witch plays cello when she's on too

yes it is immensely cool and yes i am jealous of whoever can go see it

genuinely surprised at how much i like the songs in yasper's episode of the afterparty; everyone always talks about "2 shots" and "yeah sure whatever" but this one is underrated

also, i've been saying for years, please cast ben schwartz in a stage musical, and while we're at it make it an actor-musician one bc i know the guy can actually play guitar p well

i am absolutely LOVING the goes wrong show right now; showed my friend the performance of the play that goes wrong a few months ago and ive never heard him laugh so hard

i recently read an article on variety talking about how the uk is trying to start up their own version of saturday night live and honestly i think the mischief folks would be great candidates for the cast, if they ever wanna pivot to stuff that goes right

materials/commentary:

- procreate for ipad 7th gen

- brushes: ginger brush from the sugar and spice brush set

- henry shields would be their equivalent of mikey day; one of the writers + tends to play the heavily exasperated straight man (chris bean) quite often

- bryony corrigan would be their cecily strong; nice singer and is a p big player in most of the teleplays

- nancy zamit is the kate mckinnon; tiny and plays men frequently lol

- trying to equate someone to bill hader but the dude is one of a kind

- henry shields reminds me a lot of zach woods for some reason

Concept art for a series of character introductions for Amélie UK

wanted more social media content of the cast and characters during its run so i came up with this idea of using nino's book as the vehicle for it (i know a similar concept was done for the west end cast reveal which i loved but this is for the characters)

inspired by these amazing character intros for hadestown!

edit: not quite sure where i got "little amelie" for one of the nicknames, i was sure dufayel had said it but now im p sure he calls her miss poulain; its too late to change it i am too lazy

materials/commentary

- done in procreate on ipad 7th gen

- brushes: HB pencil (default), torn paper brush from zippy doodle designs, sweet treats brush set from procreate (no longer available i think)

- paper textures from Saachi Singh via procreate folio

- edit: the info for amelie comes from a better haircut/scene after stay (nicknames), the commute home/promotion images (likes), just inferred from yknow everything (dislikes)

-edit: the info for nino comes from the scene before better haircut (nickname; joseph says it!), booth goes bright/scene before sister's pickle (likes), just inferred based on scene after blue arrow suite (dislikes); the show implies he's an artist bc he calls his book "his best work" and his coworker calls it his "work of art" when amelie shows up at the sex shop

- oh how i wish we got more production photos and footage for west end, i could only do amelie and nino bc there weren’t enough pics of anyone else besides maybe raphael and hipolito

- and even so, pics of chris jared as nino are hard to find; half came from the digital booklet released w the cast album (i’ve always wondered why they didnt use those for promotion too; the internet has only circulated about 3 pics of him and the rest of danny mac)

- but still i had lots of fun doing this :))

what happens when the booth goes bright? what happens when you’re out of view? what happens when you can’t hold on? or when i can’t hold on to you? what happens when tomorrow comes – and there’s nothing that we can do?

back in the summer of 2019 i saw amelie the musical for the first time during the UK production’s tour, and it was one of the most beautiful and magical experiences of my life! and when i got home i did [this fanart] but since i was so blessed as to get to see it again in september 2021 before it closes at the end of its west end run i thought i’d re-do that piece but with a bit more time and attention put into it and include the whole company in some way.

when i saw it on tour, i remember amelie drew the curtain with such hope for the future and i hope to be more like that after getting to relive this show. for your closing night, happy trails, beloved amelie!
