Melanie grips the hammer tightly, staring to the side. None of this seemed real, she’d only ever seen one corpse before, and he looked so peaceful and formal. The body before her seemed....anything but.
The auburn haired girl closes her eyes and gently lays her fingertips on the body’s shoulders, as if it would comfort the spirit behind her.
“I....I’m so sorry, Madame Constance...” she whispers, then stands, “I should....Should I leave you be? I mean...I know some folk prefer to be alone..”

“I.....I’m not sure,” she numbly murmured before taking a silent step backwards. The revelation had rocked her to her core. That couldn’t have been her!! How could it have been?! Surely fate would not be so cruel as to have her end be so terrible! “It can’t be! I was supposed to get married!” She tiredly ran her fingers through her hair, as tears pricked the corner of her eyes. “I don’t know what happened! This shouldn’t have happened!”

Melanie gagged seeing the decaying body. She turns her attention to a particularly dusty part of the floor, trying not to look at the corpse.
“Is it.....I mean, are you....” she didn’t know what to ask. So much of this went against everything she knew as possible, and it was so sick and twisted. This seemed like some kind of awful trick of the Phantom’s.
“What....now?”

Melanie blinks, “That’s merely 10 or so years though!” She couldn’t wrap her brain around being a ghost, especially since the alleged spirit before her was younger than she, but appeared older.
The brunette silently stares out the window, taking in the changed scenery, trying to figure out what was happening before her.
“What happened here? Where did these come from? They seem so….fanciful.”

Send an ask of one haunted mansion or phantom manor character that you guys want me to draw, (my au or not) it can also be an oc! And I’ll do a small traditional drawing of it.
(No more than 8 asks at a time!)
Don’t you dare say Constance. I will do anyone but her.

She grins and taps the doll in the tummy, humming, “I’m sure Madame Leota would be disappointed to know it’s a normal doll, too.”
Melanie looks up at Beauregard, tilting her head and pouting, “I think you’re delightful! And so kind and considerate. You’re a wonderful person, I don’t think I’m any better than you, you’re so amazing!”
breaks down in front of them or tries to make them laugh
Beauregard stifled chuckles. “It is an amazing likeness of him…” He picked up the little paper doll of the Phantom and tugged the string that came from the top of its head. Its arms and legs flailed. “Merh! Merh! Obey me!” This time he didn’t hold back his giggle. “You have quite an artistic talent, Miss Ravenswood. A shame it isn’t a functional voodoo doll, though.”

Melanie took a deep breath, focusing on the ground before she wedges the back of the hammer into the crack of the floorboards. She scrunches up her face as she pushes all her weight into the hammer, which works.
The wood cracks in the center, the brunette immediately pulling the hammer to her chest once the pressure of the wood is gone.

((I separated the last part actually because it needs its own.
My problems with the characterizations in the refurb.
Beating the love and hope out of a character to make them less fragile doesn’t make a character strong.
Melanie was a character representing hope and adoration. She was kind and sweet. She sacrifices herself for the rider, not because she’s specifically close to them, but because she loves humanity and doesn’t want anyone to suffer the way she has.
She’s caring and selfless. She wants people to feel loved but not smothered. She wants a balance for everyone because of her suffering.
A sloppy last minute plot twist that destroys all we’ve observed of her.
I’m not opposed to an angry/desperate bride. I am not opposed to plot twists. I actually quite like the idea of Constance and love a femme fatale.
I always loved the end of Phantom Manor, that Melanie realizes she isn’t completely helpless, and can help the rider.
The idea of having a character so beat down upon be key to freedom and happiness is important. Melanie was important, and unique. She actively changed the situation for others, knowing she was trapped.
