I wonder if it was how terrible I am at sight reading that discouraged me from doing music more seriously
#i was either not taught correctly or i have some kind of brain thing#i know what the symbols mean but i struggle to parse them at a glance#like everything is too visually similar#or my brain is flipping what line or space the note is on#to say nothing of rhythm#i do understand this stuff. it feels like music dyslexia. there's some disconnect during the reading.#you throw some chord changes at me i can improvise fine#its just going to take me a while to parse sheet music i have tried

Actually I'm not done with that how in the fuck did ray harryhousen get the color to match between the live action and stop motion without compositing tools
#like bad mattes are forgivable it was the 60s#how the fuck did they get the color of the lighting to match so well#i know sometimes they would project the live stuff behind the stop motion puppets one frame at a time and just capture it in-camera#no compositing necessary#i guess they just had to like. manually tweak the lights until it looked right#also while im here why did they make the skeleton puppets so small they are so tiny in real life

Some of the compositing didn't age well but aside from that the stop motion in Jason and the argonauts holds up really well
#i sat down and watched that all the way through for the first time recently#i kept waiting for the robot owl to show up#i realized about 2/3 through the movie i was thinking about clash of the titans#there's no bubo in Jason#getting the stop motion to line up and have the correct color temperature and all that is nontrivial when its all analog
