Now that Sherlock and Co is growing in popularity I want to recommend Murray Mysteries. It's a fairly similar premise to Sherlock and Co, being a modern podcast adaptation of Dracula. It's incredible, with lots of great queer rep and is very faithful to the original book. Definitely my favourite Dracula adaptation. Go listen to it, it's great.

to this day my favorite version of Dracula is the podcast released by @knovesstorytelling ... It completely revamped the story for me (pun intended) and as I slowly achieve work life balance I hope to create more art for it 🥲

Hey you, yeah you. Can I recomend you some of my tasty podcasts? It'll be a quicky questionare. No, okay. Let's do it. Do you think weather broadcasts are boring and should have better music and preferenciably no weather because fuck weather? Do you like bicicles and detectives that aren't really detectives? Aren't furbies the spawn of satan? What's your opinion on actual play rpg podcasts? Are they better with pokemon or with a bdsm episode? You think mainstream heros should have podcasts as a treat? Do you wanna hear about a fuckin' massive killer pig? Oh look ghost house! Do you wanna see a guy befriend his recording machine? What's your flavor of radio host? Free space, that's at least 3 true answers. Is that another actual play rpg podcast? Be fucking real. Generational trauma, yes or yess? Brazilian time traveler said covid was only the start of a worse pandemic to come, sorry. Tumblr. Dracula but gayer: thoughs? Dracula but gayer 2 even more gayer: opinions? Is that Octavious? Shakespeare stop! Soo many british people. Ghost hunter doctor who: are you in? Even more americans. Is that another fucking bunker? No is a creepy neighboorhood! Eye motif. Look space. Eye motif again. Werewolfs. A podcast about podcasts, meta enoug for you? Is that another fucking eye motif gay? Nope is a fucked up radio show. New fucked up cool job just dropped: faking deaths for paychecks are you in?

Audio Drama Sunday!!!
Again this is far from comprehensive because I am a feral podcast monster, but here’s what stuck out to me this week! Mostly spoiler-free, unless you count vibes as spoilers!
🗡️ Cry Havoc! Ask Questions Later managed to have a happy? Ending? Honestly the way it managed to be a hilarious historical sitcom with an ending that chilling was MASTERFUL. Great job writers, y’all are fantastic. It is obviously not absolutely true to what we know about Roman history, but it is true to the spirit of it in a way that’s really satisfying for me personally.
🦀 @thesiltverses oh MAN. The way this story says again and again that you cannot earn your way out of being trampled by a system that doesn’t care about you hits every. Single. Time. And what are you going to do, try to remake that system? There are always going to be people who can’t handle that and fight against you, to their own detriment. This story is fantastical and exaggerated, but it’s always so real at the same time.
👁️ @hellofromthehallowoods is trying to kill me, straight up. I have no idea what Halloween will bring for this show and i’m dying. It’s very difficult to predict storylines on Hallowoods and that’s something I love about it. Will this pair break up? Will this pair die for their cause? Will this pair find each other again, even through death? Shoutout to the great guests this episode, I always enjoy seeing who Mx Wellman invites into the world.
🔎 @knovesstorytelling okay look, y’all, I have never read Northanger Abbey, so I don’t know why Kit’s being told to pack her bags and get out, and I am so UPSET. What’s going on????
📉 Within the Wires is back!! And my WORD, the juxtaposition of this season being motivational tapes while listening to the current season of The Dream about life coaches?? I am transfixed and horrified, let’s GO.
🎟️ @longcatmedia Mockery Manor. I love these clowns so much. I love that Bette is really smart and really dumb at the same time. Everyone’s acting is top notch, but I’m especially a fan of Karim Kronfli in this show. Everyone knows he’s got the range, but it’s so fun listening to him be this fussy little guy.
👻 One of the shows I’ve been catching up on is Ghosts in the Burbs, a deceptively spooky and delightfully witty single-narrator ghost show. I’m listening through the Lilith arc and….woof. WOOF. I know how it ends and it’s still terrifying.
🩸 IT’S HEMOPHOBIA DAY, omg, everyone please check out Hemophobia, I am so excited for Hemophobia. It’s sitting in my queue staring at me with that creepy-ass logo art. I’ve talked with CSW about this show and heard the trailer—religious trauma horror with amazing sound design and an amazing cast??? You kidding???? I am drooling over here. Join me, won’t you?
🧟‍♀️ This week is also the premier of The Dead! As soon as that feed appears I’ll be putting it everywhere, and I’m so excited to show everyone the first series. You’ve heard of snakes on a plane….
💐 On my end, as Re: Dracula continues its march to the finale, this week I find myself recording Inn Between and The Dead. I am still trying to make rent ahead of my new job’s first paycheck, so if you liked this post or the other things I do, would you consider sending me a ko-fi?
Now if you’ll excuse me, I will be listening to Hemophobia very quietly and very scared by myself in the dark. Until next week!

Persuasion, detective AU
Your mind. My own currently addled brain is not equal to this, but a nebulous outline.
Walter Elliot, CEO of Kellynch Holdings, actually is stupid enough to do crimes without realizing it, and vain enough to presume that if he's doing it, it must be a Smart Business Decision and therefore not a crime, QED. This will become a problem, especially when he falls in with the more intentionally criminous Elliot and Clay Associates.
Admiral Croft is the grizzled detective™ pursuing the case.
Frederick Wentworth is the last person anyone (except Anne and, loyally, Sophy) expected to get a fancy law degree after getting out of the army, much less to take on the kind of work required to bring down white-collar criminals. He might love his job a little too much. Sophy occasionally mentions to him that the concept of a work-life balance has filtered into some corners of the legal profession, and even into some corners of the police.
Frederick has always presumed--allowed himself to presume--that Anne Elliot went to her conservatory, went to grad school, and vanished into the comparatively rarified* world of classical music. The last thing he expects is to find Anne teaching Beethoven to 9-year-olds and keeping the house and the accounts for her feckless family. He does not (repeat not) examine his feelings about needing to make sure that she is exonerated from any suspicion of complicity in wrong-doing.
Elizabeth runs a YouTube channel from which she attempts to influence. Mary is part of the essential oils racket. Frederick may or may not wonder if the entire damn family (Anne excepted) is stupid or criminal or both. But after telling Anne he's ready to submit his filings (if that is what I mean), he leaves a handwritten letter under the glass fruit bowl in the kitchen that only she uses.
*yes I know that tickets are exponentially cheaper than arena concerts or sportsball but it's about the cultural perception which I would argue still is kind of socially rarified. Don't yell at me, I routinely lower the average age of classical music audiences.

On the recommendation of Re: Dracula, I'm listening to Murray Mysteries, a podcast that was done in 2022. The producers made a 21st century, genderbent version of the Dracula story, and I am enjoying the hell out of it.

oh my god it's HIM IT'S HIM!!!
Before starting this, the only characters from Murray Mysteries I really thought of designing were Jonathan, Drac, and "R". Because they were the only characters I cared to illustrate jiopegre. And lemme tell you, R was always going to be a long white-haired anime boy---
I can't... I can't think of him without getting angry at Jane. Part of the delay in finishing this was me stopping every few seconds to rant about how she deserved to have her medical license taken away big time.
But on the subject of R specifically, his voice (provided by the same man who voices Drac, which I didn't realize until today) is soft and has that... tortured anime boy vibe. And he's still supposed to be in his late 50s!! How does he do it!! All that angsty hair is a feat!!
His clothes are kind of pajama-ish with no pockets to hold things in. And for footwear I just... put him in socks. He probably wears slip-ons. He gets to wear a cardigan because he's cold.
Oh oh oh! Also. Love how he pronounces Jane's last name: C-word.

I said to myself at eight that I wasn't going to do the drawings. But my sketchbook was open... and my references were pulled up...
Drac. The bastard. What do I even say of him? He's slimy and gross. There's this very expensive gaudy suit store in the mall that I think would be perfect for clothing references for Murray Mysteries Dracula. But as I started this late, I just pulled a suit out of my mind's eye.
He has definitely gotten plastic surgery before, this is not how he looked before modern day, that's a new nose. Mind you, that's not a judgment against surgery whatsoever, but Drac did do it to dodge criminal charges, so...

yknow if i had a nickel for every time I wound up absolutely loving an asexual British horror podcast protagonist named Jonathan who had an excellent narrating voice and was slowly turning into a monster-
I would have two nickels, and it's weird that it happened twice.
(okay yes Jonathan Harker isn't like, the single protagonist of Murray Mysteries but I'd say he's one of the protagonists)

Like last year, I'm using October as an excuse for character design! This time, the cast of Murray Mysteries, a podcast adaptation of Dracula set in the modern day. Dunno if I'll succeed in carrying it through the whole month. We'll see!
Today, we're starting with Jonathan! I picture him with a soft face and in warm, cozy clothes. I debated the glasses (glasses are so hard to get right), but they really suit him and round out his look. He's probably around average height.

Minaminamina Murraymurraymurray
That's why her hair is so big, it's full of mysteries.
I don't feel as good about this set of sketches, though I did choose to make her hair very hard for me to draw. Murray Mysteries Mina has a completely different energy from the book. So, she's short now /j
but also she has sharper eyes, unlike the kind eyes I gave novel Mina.

Lucy!! I was forced to start later due to being stuck in a time vortex. Seriously, it was noon one minute and then it was 5 pm.
Lucy's taller in this universe!! Crazy!! I don't know how to explain my choices here, it's just vibes. Murray Mysteries Lucy is fun-loving and I imagine she's a bit of a fashion queen, so I gave her a look I like: high-waisted pants, puffy sleeves, earrings. I rushed the earrings, but I imagine she'd more likely wear big ones. Ones that make the meek shudder and say "I couldn't".
Did I draw that stupid heart necklace in the corner simply so I wouldn't have to try her side profile a second time? Shut up.
