His children have been through horrendous trauma and, through no fault of their own, have had to go to desperate measures to survive.

I'm not a parent, but I know how my parents would react if they saw me in Arya's, Sansa's, Rickon's, Bran's or Jon's position. They wouldn't stand back and say "hell yeah! you got this, bitch! so proud of you!" They would do everything in their power to get me back. They would weep and grieve.
