I love thissss!!! New favorite, it’s awesome
Random thing #8:
It was the Hero’s birthday. Not many people knew that.
The Hero never liked inviting people over. Their birthday was never that special to them. They didn’t mind if people stopped by with gifts or just a simple “happy birthday” or whatever. But they took their birthday as just a day off.
There was nobody else in their home. No cake, no gifts, no nothing. Hero didn’t mind that.
The whole day they wrapped themselves in a blanket, sat back on the couch and watched their favorite tv show. Now and then they would get up and eat something, but their main habitat of the day was their couch.
It was peaceful. For once they were getting a break. They didn’t mind the sound of their tv and nothing else. They didn’t mind being alone. Everything seemed perfect.
But it wasn’t like that for long.
Around six in the evening, it had been the same way. Hero relaxing. They were starting another episode of their favorite tv show when there was a sudden knock at the door.
Great. Someone decides to come to their home at this time of day.
Hero let out a long sigh as they pushed the blanket off of them and stood onto their feet. They paused the tv and then walked up to the door.
When they opened it, their eyes narrowed.
It was Villain.
There they were, standing tall as always at Hero’s door. They seemed delighted to see Hero, which rarely happened.
“Hero!” They said with some excitement in their voice. “I haven’t seen you all day!”
“What do you want?” Hero leaned against the door frame. Just hurry up and say the damn speech.
“No need to be so rude.” Villain did seem excited, and it threw Hero’s senses off. “I’m not here for much.”
“Mhm… right.” Hero murmured sarcastically. “What are you here for then?”
“Why, it’s your birthday of course!” Villain then reached for something beside them that Hero couldn’t see.
It was a present. Hero almost felt their mouth drop. Never in their years of fighting Villain, never at all, did they ever get a gift from them. This was a first.
But Hero’s senses were still high, none of this seemed right.
The present was now in Villain’s hands, held out for Hero to take. But Hero didn’t take it. They only stared at it.
Their senses were telling them it was a prank, a trap.
Don’t take the damn present.
So instead of taking it, Hero only pushed it towards Villain.
“No thank you.” They said quietly.
“You’re denying a present?” Villain’s voice suddenly seemed upset. “From your friendemy?”
“I’m sorry, “friendemy?”
“A friend that’s an enemy.” Villain had a wide grin on their face. “I thought it would be nice to give you something on your special day.”
“Yeah, right.” Hero grabbed the door, thinking about shutting it. “Who knows what’s in that damn thing. A bomb? Another one of your little ‘toys?’”
The Villain’s grin died. Their shoulders slumped in disappointment.
They had a feeling this would happen. The one time they try to be nice, the Hero turns their back away.
This wasn’t worth it. They stopped trying.
Their head looked at the ground, before they slowly settled the present on the ground as well.
“Fine.” Their voice was so quiet it almost came out as a whisper. “Happy birthday, Hero.”
Then the Villain turned, starting to head down the stairs. The Hero stood there, confused. Was it actually a present? What was going on?
They didn’t even question it too far. They bent down and slowly untied the red ribbon that was around it.
When they opened the box, they didn’t find a large bomb with a timer on it, or one of Villain’s gadgets.
It was a cake. A small, chocolate cake. Villain had made it themself. The cursive writing read “Happy birthday, Hero.” It was even written in Hero’s favorite colour.
The Villain actually put effort into something they could have ignored easily. Hero had chased them away from this moment.
Someone actually cared about their special day. And Hero had almost chased them away completely.
Hero had to chase them back.
They quickly put the present inside on the nearby counter, and then quickly ran down the stairs.
“Villain!” They yelled. “Wait!”
With that, the Villain stopped. But they didn’t turn to Hero. Hero breathed heavily for a moment as they reached Villain.
“I… I’m sorry.” They said, catching their breath. “I… it’s just… I’ve never expected you to be so… nice to me for once.” That was the truth. The Villain never cared about them, always wanted to hurt them in the deadliest ways of all time. “But I’m sorry for the way I acted. I just… I thought it would be some kind of trap.” Hero looked back up at Villain, who had only turned their head a little bit. “Please.” They said carefully. “If you have nothing to do. You’re more than welcome to stay.” Hero couldn’t hold back their smile. “I can’t eat that cake all by myself y’know.”
And for the first time, Hero saw Villain’s real smile. They turned to face Hero, arms crossed.
“So now you’re finally coming out of your shell?”
Hero couldn’t help but lift the finger playfully.
That night, the two cuddled on the couch, eating cake while being wrapped up in a large blanket. And of course, watching Hero’s favorite show.
So far, that was Hero’s favorite birthday.
