If we look around us, every event, every plan can be seen as a fragment of time. These segments make up our schedules. Hidden behind these schedules is our personal way of life and the rhythm of life in this society, but there is also something else that we lost when we try to be more efficient. In magic shows there is a term called misdirection, which can subtly and deceptively draw the audience's attention to one thing and make them not pay attention to another. This design work attempts to use this principle in the transport system, suspending people's original journey from their original commute and temporarily misdirecting their attention, is what my project attempts to get at. The device system consists of a clock screen that recognises the human face and body, a water bottle connected to a bluetooth receiver and a cable reel. Normally the time on the screen is accurate, but as soon as someone looks at it, the time on the screen stops and the kettle starts working at the same time. And depending on the amount of water, the water takes different amounts of time to boil. Then I put it on a real host system to help busy people escape from their original commute to the 'tea room'. Whether they are waiting at a bus stop or have just got off the bus, I want to pause their original journey, sit them down and turn their attention to boiling a pot of water via the electronic screen. Then make a pot of tea or even chat with us. (at Goldsmiths, University of London) https://www.instagram.com/p/CXmItJzLpeU/?utm_medium=tumblr
