Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides - Movie Poster
Keeping the theme of playing cards, I decided to make a crumbling card tower. The tower is meant to look like it is crumbling from the inside out, this relates to how Blackbeard’s plan crumbled from the inside out.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End-Movie Poster
The two sets of cards are meant to represent poker hands with potential to be a straight flush and a royal flush. This relates to the General of the British Navy in the movie believing he has the “best hand” (he’s going to win) but, the Pirates have a better hand.

Curiosity Conversation
I was really nervous about completing a curiosity conversation, mainly because I would find it awkward if a stranger came up to me and tried to start a conversation. I am awkward in conversation anyways ad have difficulty thinking of things to talk about. Going into this stretch quest I felt 5/5 uncomfortable. I decided that I just had to do it and tried to start a conversation with the guy sitting next to me on the train....He ignored me for the most part and left the train a couple stops later. I decided that since we didn’t really have a conversation that I should try again. I saw a lady who looked to be in her 20′s sitting a couple seats ahead of me who looked like the most approachable option. I sat down next to her and started by asking her how her day was going, we actually ended up having a great conversation. I found out that her name is Jennie and she is in her third year at U of C studying to be an engineer. She was actually on the train to meet up with group members to work on their project on the U of C campus. After finishing my curiosity conversation I realized that sometimes talking to strangers can be interesting and not as awkward as you might think. The curiosity conversation turned out to only be a 2/5 on the uncomfortable scale.

Stretch Quest-Professional
For my professional stretch quest I went to a job interview, I have never had a “real” design job before, I have only worked retail. So I was very nervous about this interview. Going in to it I felt about a 4.5/5 on the discomfort scale. I was worried that my lack of professional experience would deter them from considering me, I was also worried that my work looked “amateur”. The interview ended up going very well and they seemed very interested in employing me, however I may not receive the position due to scheduling conflicts, they said they had people they wanted to recommend me to! Even I was really worried about the interview it ended up being a really good opportunity for me and hopefully helped me get my name out there.

“They” in Rockwell
I decided to use Rockwell to challenge myself with the serifs. I really struggled with the angles of the “y” again. I used pencil for this sketch.

I knolled 15 NYC makeup product in a Walmart. It was overall not as bad as I thought it would be however, there was a girl watching me looking really confused. Which I though was actually quite funny.

“They” in Futura Reg.
The hardest part about this type sketch for me was definitely the “y” for some reason I could never seem to get the right angle.

Numbers 1-9 in Arial
I chose to do the numbers in Arial because I wanted to focus on the shapes of the numbers without having to worry about the serifs. As you can probably tell I really struggled with the numbers 9 and 6.

Stretch Quest 3- Physical
For my physical stretch quest I decided to go to the gym at school, more precisely I went to the gym alone. I do consider myself a fit and active person but I prefer exercise in a group setting. I have never gone to the gym alone before. The thought of exercising alone makes me feel judged, especially when it seems like everyone there really knows what they are doing. I went after one of my classes on a Wednesday and was hoping the gym wouldn’t be too busy. On my way to the change room I looked into the gym room and saw it was very crowded and almost considered leaving. However, I was already there and decided I just needed to do it, I walked i and just focused on what I wanted to do and in the end it was not so bad. When I first walked in I felt a 4/5 discomfort level but by the time I left it was a 1/5 discomfort level. This showed me that things really aren’t as bad as I think they are going to be and I would definitely consider going to the gym alone again.
