Blog #2
This is my first blog and to be honest, I still feel a little lost even on the third week. I apologize to my fellow classmates for my delayed work, I’m finally getting the hang of this “Tumblr”. After two weeks of not knowing what everyone was talking about in their blogs, I finally got the link to the readings. I read “Argument as Conversation” today, and boy did it open my eyes. I did my research summary blind, started it without knowing what was required, wrote based off nothing and submitted it. Which now I see I did not write the greatest research question what so ever. My topic was on toxic relationships, and when is it ok to walk away from it. Looking at it now after the reading, I find it difficult to find a counterargument for it, therefore, making my topic not challenging enough. Though I’m determined to stick with it and do as much research as I can to provide all the evidence possible. This reading assured me that its normal to have an opinion, but if you voice it, it’s best if you do your research on it before in order to get your audience to agree with you. I found the reading interesting and extremely helpful. I’ve always viewed arguments as conversation. I’m the type of person to debate a topic if my feelings are strong enough on the subject. It can sometimes come off as a dispute, but it diffidently is not. Greene, Stuart gave me an understanding that most conversations are arguments and most arguments are conversations. For my future assignments, I look forward to applying this in all my classes.

I’m lost, can someone help me. My understanding is that we need to post blogs once a week based off the reading. Though I’m new to google docs I can’t seem to figure out how to connect with class or at least with the professor. I’m in need of library exploration sheet.

Hello, everyone! My name is Katie Gomez, I’m 26 and a Junior heading for a biology degree. My plan after graduating is to apply to Medical School, I know it’s hard to believe with my age and barely starting but I’ve been on the dean’s list since summer 2015, I’m a member of the national society of scholars, I’ve been part of many charity events here in the valley while being an account manager for a local business in Edinburg for the past 4 years. To top it off I’ve accomplished all of that while raising a baby (now a 2-year- old). She has given me that sense of direction I was looking for and I found it because of the drive she brings out of me.

The election of Donald Trump has been met with a mix of caution and fear from minorities in our communities—with good reason. The normalization of xenophobic rhetoric coincided with an increase in hate crimes, bullying, and violence. This week’s Issue Time is led by three people whose organizations work to counter xenophobia and bring people closer together:
Riham Osman is the Digital Media & Communications Strategist at the Muslim Public Affairs Council’s (MPAC). Riham works to protect the civil rights of American Muslims through the use of digital media public affairs and advocacy.
Jessica Reeves is the Chief Operating Officer at Voto Latino. In her role, she is responsible for developing and managing key partnerships and programs that help to advance the organization’s mission to bring new and diverse voices into the political process by engaging youth, media, technology and celebrities to promote positive change.
Ann Burroughs is the Interim President and CEO of the Japanese American National Museum and Chair of the Board of Directors of Amnesty International USA.
The Action ask box is open.
Send in your stories, questions, concerns—whatever. Our panel will start responding on Saturday January 21st.
