I love Ed *so* much. I adore him. But sheesh, we can not put this all on Izzy.

it’s so fucking hard being an ed stan first and foremost when making posts like “i love how compassionate and kind they are to ed’s struggle and how they underline that his awful behavior comes from suicidal hatred of himself, he continues to be one of the most unflinching portrayals of fucked mental health that does not stop itself from showing how badly his own self hatred hurts other people as well yet doesn’t make him an irredeemable monster” gets people who think that ed didn’t even hurt the crew at all really they were just used to stedes management style and complaining for no reason and izzy getting his leg amputated is just comedic relief we’re supposed to laugh at and ultimately we should all be focused on condemning izzy for making ed upset in the first place in your notifs. like y’all make it actually impossible to praise the show bc you don’t even think the show is doing what it is doing

Can I just say that as 1) a POC who was delayed in learning to read and had years of reading intervention mostly due to ADHD and 2) a person with illiterate grandparents on one side of the family, every time it's brought up or implied that thinking Ed can't read is problematic or racist I end up feeling extremely bad.

Illiteracy or lack thereof does not equal someone's worth as a person.

I don't know if the show's creators are intending him to be literate or not, but either way he's still an intelligent, badass guy who's accomplished a lot of (pirate-y, crime-y) things.

Other than unhinged Stede & Stephen, Ed & Jack team ups, I think the thing I'd want the most is Izzy having a bit of a crisis because he was pressed into the navy as a boy and hates this Captain Aubrey on principle (and for, like, every other word out of his mouth) but is also enjoying ever second of watching the man loose his shit over how disorganized and unprepared the crew of the Revenge are

Newest thought: Mary/Izzy marriage where Izzy just treats the whole thing like being a first mate again

Stede Bonnet (my brother in autism, my sweet baby gay, criollito ricacho de mi corazón), everyone’s already wished you romance and the ability to do all the violence and pirating you want which is great because I want that for you too 😌 I also reaaaaally wanna see you struggling to adjust to the life your crew lives.

Like at least a montage that’s a foil to the tour of the Revenge scene. Stede getting callouses from rowing boats, ropeburn from lifting sails, passing out the moment his head hits the hammock/barrel/floor, fretting about where his next orange is gonna come from, bathing in a broken tub next to his peers.

Cherry on top if Buttons gives him a hashtag-it-gets-better talk where Stede decides that the loss of comfort and money are totally worthy prices to pay for the freedom to pursue the love of his life and pirating passion. Idk maybe he’ll learn to really care about people who aren’t Ed or himself but I’m trying to manage my expectations lol

Well since I ship all three of those to varying degrees. I don't really need or expect them to be canon though, except I could maybe see further confirmation of Izzy's feelings for Ed happening in the series? I'm a big multishipper lol.

Stede/Izzy- big fan of the bitch4bitch dynamic. I enjoy the potential for hate sex that turns into not so hateful sex. Also a fan of scenarios where they reluctantly team for whatever reason and bond that way.

Ed/Izzy- tbh, I like the power imbalance and toxicity. I just think it's fun to explore sometimes. Also like the potential for sweeter pre-canon content when they were younger.

Ed/Stede/Izzy- Kind of a combination of the things listed above. The way it works so well with fix-it concepts is fun. I also enjoy various AUs where they met in difference circumstances, etc. Mostly it's just that I love all three characters, so why not ship them?

OK, I have gone back and forth on whether to make this post, but honestly I’m just to curious to hold back any longer.

I really want to know what Izzy/Ed, Izzy/Stede, and Izzy/Ed/Stede shippers like about the dynamics of those ships and how you envision those relationships developing in the world of the show. Or even IF you envision those relationships developing in the world of the show. If you think those ships are not likely to develop after the events of S1 (and I don’t mean whether or not the writers WILL go there, but rather whether the writers COULD go there) and if you just like the character dynamics and enjoy putting those together outside of cannon events, tell me about that as well. 

I’m not really a fan of those 3 ships, but I’m not going to say anything else about that here, since I am tagging this in the Izzy and Izzy ship tags and that would be kind of a dick move. Still, I did want to mention it in case people just don’t want to engage with this post because of that. I am curious, so I’ll probably ask more questions if people reply and, while I am approaching this post and all replies from a place of genuine curiosity and wanting to understand other people’s views, I can’t promise that my own views won’t come up in responses, so… yeah. There’s my disclaimer. I’m coming at this from a place of curiosity and good faith, but also as someone who may disagree.
