"Post War" UPDATED (Chapter 71)

Yes, I made it! A new update BEFORE the year is out! Hopefuly this chapter is better than the previous one, even if considerably shorter.

Summary:

Evelyn makes a huge mistake and finds herself in dire straits; meanwhile the time has come for Draco to raise to the occasion and put his plans in motions.

Evelyn: Sev, we need to talk about Soren. Severus: What about him? Evelyn: I believe we made a mistake by telling him about the Krampus. Severus: Oh, Lynz, I wouldn't worry. You know Soren loves scary stories, I'm sure he can deal with a little spooky yuletide folklore. Don't tell me he's afraid Krampus is going to get him? Evelyn: No...he's looking forward to it.

How dare they? Overwhelming grief is ALSO his thing!

Severus: I can’t believe all these people are wearing black. Black supposed to be MY thing, they’re all just a bunch of posers.

McGonagall: Severus, for the last time, this is a funeral.

I just realized the last update to "Post War" has been in January of this year. It seems I'm not only quite unable to deal with real life while keeping a decent writing routine, but I also seem to have written myself into a corner.

The last chapter was quite subpar,quite messy and there were several plotholes and incoherencies which I'm trying to correct in the next one. But the truth is, the next chapter (which will be uploaded later this week) will be quite a bit awkward and clunky. Hopefully I'll be able to correct some stuff I've done wrong and get the story going more or less smoothly again, but I'm genuinely afraid I've bitten way more than I could chew and just made the storyline way more complex than it should have been. In the next chapters I'll probably have to make some unsavory decisions, and I truly hope those of you who are still reading it will be willing to go down this bumpy ride with me.

Thank you all for all the lovely, thoughtful and supportive comments left on AO3. I've read each and every one of them, even though I haven't been in any way able to answer them one by one. Thank you for keeping up with this story for so long, and waiting so patiently for any updates from an author who, currently, doesnt even have her own life under control, let alone her fic.

Sooo, way back in September, I was too busy with real life bullshit to really do much to commemorate the birthday of the lovely @artisticreptilequeen , but I did keep the idea of drawing a gift in the backburner until I had a chance to ask them for a prompt. And this was it: some nice domestic fluff with Severus, Evelyn and Soren basking in the joy of Eloise's upcoming debut into the world.

It's been ages I don't draw three people in the same image, and this took a whole lot of looking at references, but I'm happy with how soft and domestic it is. And after some trial and error, the unfinished sketch look is what suited it best, and I like the warmth it gave the whole thing.

And I hope ya'll like your Snape with a little stubble and a ponytail who doesnt look like a man in his 50s is supposed to, I guess...

All I want from harry potter is for Snape and Mcgonagall to go on adventures during their summer months when school’s out.

“Do not do that.” Salazar's voice was fainter and fainter as she tried with all her might to shut it down. And still, Evelyn hesitated. Even as a whisper, his voice was commanding, urgent. But it was just that, a murmur, a made up character in her dreams bleeding into her conscious mind in a moment of stress. She wasn't about to start listening to voices inside her head like a lunatic. TBH, Halloween lasagna sounds like a great idea to me.

Audrey’s mom: ”Halloween?! *scoffs* You mean Satan’s birthday!?”

Severus: “Well, yeah, it’s Soren’s birthday, but we´re not doing any human sacrifices this year, just cake and some films.”

11 year old Soren: “And lasagna.”

Severus: "And lasagna, that’s right. So, what time can I pick Audrey up?”

And since their mother is a literature nerd and their father is a perpetual goth, Soren and Eloise get to wear costumes like these: The Raven, and The Masque of the Red Death, because what's more Halloween than the Snape siblings dressed as Edgar Allan Poe characters.
