Thinking about Gortash’s hair and how it changes throughout his life… gnawing on him like a little chew toy in my brain rn

Like, we all know gort for his iconic silly little emo cut right? But here, he has some different looks in his concept art…

So, here’s some of my headcanon-y ideas on how he presented himself through his life in terms of hairstyle (and some durgetash thoughts!)

In his childhood, Gortash’s hair was often messy and unkempt. A sign of personal neglect, as he rarely received consistent attention from his parents. Thus, he often resorted to chopping it off himself, an early version of the “emo medieval sasuke” look we are so used to seeing from him.

Gortash grew out his hair in the house of hope. He wore it in a slicked back ponytail, often fidgeting with it and braiding it when he got bored. It gave off a formal, handsome, pretty long haired angry sad boy vibe. There was a point in time where Raphael ordered his servants to style Gortash in his own image, but ultimately decided to waste little time on the brat and let him manage his looks on his own. It was in the house of hope that Gortash learned how to “clean up” his whole look.

Once Gortash left the house of hope, he cut his locks, as he had learned how “hair holds memories”. He was to be a new man, a brilliant inventor and future archduke.

And thus, as he made his way up the chain of nobility, Gortash wore that short, slicked back style as seen in the concept art. That is, until he met his favourite Bhaalist, the dark urge.

As he grew closer to durge, he let his hair grow once more, decorating it with pretty trinkets brought to him by his beloved and letting durge sit down and comb their sharp fingers through it. It was an expression of love and vulnerability, as if to say, “i want my hair to hold the memories of you”. (Now more closely resembling his early concept look)

And finally, with the loss of the Dark Urge and his heart drenched with sorrow, Gortash cut his hair again, like the dramatic bastard that he is. And thus, we come to see his regular and iconic emo scruffy look.
