This was a long-standing habit that would eventually be collaged on the inside covers for Making Faces, Aucoin's best-selling book about makeup. Aucoin was not as well-known when he began his journey to becoming a cosmetics expert. Aucoin was raised in Lafayette, Louisiana. This is a place that is very intolerant of anything sexual or different. Kevyn Aucoin was six years old when he discovered he was bridal makeup artist in Bangalore . Despite his struggles, the makeup innovator lives on through his words and beliefs. He stated, "Beauty comes down to perception...Knowing oneself and liking it." Aucoin's personal strength over many decades of adversity inspires women today to bedazzling, not to downplay, their own abilities.
