Ink/Digital mixed media illustration I recently did for a client. Lately I’ve been doing all my drawing/rendering with ink as usual, then using photoshop to add in all the color and texture. Working this way saves time and I get the chance to gain proficiency working with digital media. I was pretty happy with the way this one turned out! 

Had a lot of fun with these! Small 4x6 original ink drawings. 

Here is a recent illustration inspired by the exhibits at The Natural History Museum of Utah. To the left, you’ll see the original graphite study I did in my sketchbook, and on the right there is the final ink drawing on toned paper.

Here is a work in progress shot of the completed under drawing for this painting (ink on watercolor paper) .... I had a lot of fun with this one.

Rough pencil sketch... concept for a recent illustration.

Here is the finished version (Final Draft) of the previous post. Pretty much stuck with my usual technique here of ink on toned paper. Again, this was a pretty unusual project, basically a character that the client had visualized in his mind and wanted to see brought to reality.... Per request of the client, please do not duplicate or re-produce this image.

Concept sketch for an illustration commission that I had a lot of fun with. Like many projects, it started out confusing and lacking direction, but its really rewarding to take someones idea that at first is hard to visualize and turn it into a concept or character that makes sense on paper.

Finished....

Kept the same theme with the background as the last two “space girl” drawings. For this Cosmonaut I wanted to depict some “blueprint” style line sketches of EXPERIMENTAL SPACECRAFT. Its pretty simplified, but then again I didn’t want it to distract from the main focus (the Cosmonaut)... these are all character designs for a story I’m slowly working on, dealing with Cold War era spy aircraft, the space race, and tactical espionage... pretty nerdy stuff, haha.

Another Retro space girl pin up, this character is a Cosmonaut that I’ve been working on and having a lot of fun with. The bottom image is the original pencil drawing that I used as my template to create the final ink rendering (top)... Had a lot of fun with this one so far, I am still trying to figure out how I want to go about the border treatment/background.

Overall I am pretty happy with the way these turned out... I will definitely be drawing more like this in the future.

This piece was a lot of fun... It took about 12 hours strait and I did the entire drawing in one sitting, sort of a last minute piece for an art show I was showing work at. Essentially what I was doing here was putting together a illustrated UFO equivalent of a “photo line up” of strange/unidentified aircraft that has been reported in the skies over varies places. You can see some of my concept sketches below and how they translated over to the final piece.
