A tribute to BD-1, one of the cutest droids of the galaxy far away (my personal favorite stays R2). Lego set 75335 with Lightailing kit mounted on top. A great way to further enhance its showpiece potential :)
I had already used the same location near my home to show a canoe falling into the waterfall. But I wanted to take the storytelling a step further and feature a team of unhappy pirates who had made the wrong choices and were about to lose their entire fortune!
I'd like to take this opportunity to share some behind-the-scenes footage with you ;)
For 1 year now, I've been lucky enough to collaborate with the French magazine Briques Mag to create the "Spot 7 differences" game on the back page of each issue. A fun exercise that sometimes requires a lot of patience and attention to detail!
The month of November was an opportunity to re-establish a historical fact that has been kept secret by NASA for years 😊
So I'm back with a little retrospective on last month's Medieval theme :) I'm still enjoying this universe, vintage sets and modern ones alike. It's rich and you can tell so many stories with it!
Due to a fracture, I wasn't able to get out as much as I'd have liked this autumn to enjoy the colorful forest scenery, but it did give me a chance to try out other things in the studio… You'll see in a future post dedicated to Space ;)
At the beginning of September, I'm sorting through my photos… And it's a good opportunity to come back to old images and imagine what we'd do with them today… And sometimes take a chance, as in this picture!
I never really liked the initial rendering: the image wasn't transporting enough, the futuristic ice planet atmosphere didn't work, and in the end, this superb set (exosuit) wasn't well showcased. I went back to the raw image to try and give it another chance.
I took advantage of the vacations to shoot my entry to #bc_tipfest photo contest on @brickcentral
Go outside / Make it pop: I used a real set for the staging. In this case, a sunset on the beach. This helped to catch GoldenHours vibrant colors.
Pose your subject: The figure is deliberately placed from the back, in a static but serene position, with its face facing the sea/sunset to draw the eye towards the subject.
Use props: As the figure is from the back, a few props help us to understand that the figure is stand-up paddling.
So we have a happy, serene surfer (even if her face isn't visible) enjoying the last rays of sunshine after a day's paddling 😉

The Medieval Band
For my 2nd entry, I used other tips, just to vary a bit :)
- Build an environment: I'm more used to shooting outdoors in natural settings, especially at this time of year. But I tried to change my habits by creating a 100% lego environment. As the main subject is a group of minstrels, the setting had to be medieval. I based the set on the forge. I used natural light to illuminate my scene, but with a large gold reflector to give it a warm ambience. I added tree branches (bonsai) to create a frame around the group and create a "cosy" atmosphere :)
- Use props and add details: brick-build scenes are already detailed, but adding props reinforces the impression. In this case, I wanted to create a group of minstrels, so I equipped them with medieval clothes and instruments that existed at the time, to be credible. I could have chosen anachronistic instruments to make a gag, but that wasn't my intention or the emotion I wanted to convey.
- Pose your subjects : I hesitated for a long time over the choice of faces, but I finally found those that corresponded well to the joyful mood of the minstrels while being compatible with singing and playing musical instruments.
I hope this photo speaks to you in the same way I imagined it :)
Welcome to the moon ! Here are 2 pictures with space vibes. I'm watching For all Mankind and was inspired by this great serie. More pics will come soon ;)
