Concept art for the Donkey Kong arcade at the point during the design process when Nintendo still assumed they would be able to secure a Popeye license, featuring Popeye as Mario, Olive Oyl as Pauline, and Bluto as Donkey Kong.
The document is dated March 21, 1981, less than 4 months before the game’s release on July 9, 1981. During this time, Miyamoto designed all the Mario characters, and the entirety of the game was programmed.
