Happy 14th Anniversary SHINee!

To be honest, I didn't have "becoming obsessed with kpop" on my 2022 bingo card, nor did I expect to fall in love this hard, but SHINee... yeah wow, I am genuinely at the stage where I would sell my own liver just to witness them play live.

And you know, this is all the YouTube algorithm's fault. If it hadn't dropped Jassi's Showterview ep with Minho getting roasted for 25 minutes on me, I wouldn't have been sent down the rabbit hole of 14 year's worth of compilation videos, live concerts and livestream content. But imma be real, the last 6 months of discovering these 5 have brought me so much joy, like, I can't even describe it. They've saved me from burnout and have also introduced me to the wider world of kpop. I love them so so much. Shawol for life!!!!!

Annndd I'm back obsessing over this scene and can't wait to see it animated one day. Anyways, the differences in these translations kill me. I love seeing the differences and there are bits i love from both of them combined.

I'm caught between when Aizawa says

"You can live. You can be here." vs "You're alive and you're here."

The CAN really hits home something I feel Toshi has been struggle with. Yes, he's here, but is it okay for him to be [in his eyes because he doesn't think he has a purpose anymore] and this is someone he knows and trusts reminding him its okay he CAN be here.

At the same time i prefer from the second translation for the part "There are a lot of people who gain strength just because you're alive." In my opinion this hit me more personally the first time I read it and every time after because Toshi is also my favorite character and his character has helped me through hard times and I really feel this sentiment.

As for the rest of the dialogue i prefer the version on the left where Aizawa says

"So please, just be the same brazen, cocksure guy that you are. The one you've always been."

This feels much more natural for Aizawa to say and it also just shows us how much growth Aizawa has gone in his relationship with Toshi. SEASON 1 AIZAWA WOULD HAVE NEVER. I just love seeing how far Toshi and Aizawa have come from the time Aizawa couldn't stand All Might, to Aizawa getting to know Toshinori as a person and while he knows there is a huge difference between the two, there are parts of All Might and Toshi that are the same and that part is what gives people, likely including Aizawa himself, hope.

And i want to add i prefer Toshi responding with a "Thank you" while thinking about Mirai. Mostly because him just apologizing for being upset and having a moment in front of Aizawa hurt more and kinda sends the message he can't be vulnerable, while the thank you makes it feel like he can and is allowing himself to be vulnerable, even if its just for a moment.

Toshi thinking about Mirai and this entire conversation also makes me think that Toshi has probably heard something similar from Mirai before. Obviously the circumstances were likely different, since Mirai wasn't around while Toshi was sick. Maybe for their past conversation, it had more to do with how Toshi gave people hope by being there

For Toshi maybe that meant always being around. This is why he forced himself to leave the hospital because people needed him. This talk with Aizawa however has probably enlightened him that he misunderstood when Mirai had begged him to retire and had tried to get him to understand a new symbol would return.

None of this meant Toshi would become irrelevant the moment he retired. He may not be able to rescue anyone anymore like he used to. But he still gives people hope just for being alive.

I think the reason Toshi got upset thinking about Mirai was realizing he never really understood his worth wasn't connected to him being present all the time. His presence as a hero is gone, but here is Aizawa reminding him that he still matters.

So the moment he hears someone he trusts tell him he still matters and is still wanted really gets to him.

Another thing i can see is Toshi started to think about Mirai out of a sense of survivor's guilt and wishing he was still there too. I wouldn't be surprised if Toshi wished he could have taken Mirai's place.

This guilt is probably another major factor as to why Toshi questions if he's needed and why he's there. And then Aizawa for helped him understand what he couldn't before. He IS wanted, its okay for him to BE here, people still are inspired and get strength from him, even though he isn't an active hero anymore. Even though Toshi is retired, he is still a hero.

And this is hopefully a big step forward for Toshi to be able to move on and heal. This man deserves to be happy.

Summary: Fate is inevitable. It is as inescapable as the way blood turns red in oxygen. As illimitable as death. And sometimes, Hannibal thought, as sweet as flesh on the tongue. Will Just didn’t know it yet.

Excerpt: “You can’t escape this, Will,” Hannibal said. He looked jarringly in his element. Hair missed from the struggle, shirt and waistcoat drenched in blood, hands wiped clean and jacket draped neatly over his arm. His thin lips were downturned and calm.

“You just killed someone!” Will was shaking. He clenched his hands into fists to try and stop it. His body vibrated all the more furiously. The pool of blood almost reached his shoes. It was every bit of horror Will had ever seen and more; Hannibal has no ties to his victim.

The man lay with his throat torn open and his blood congealing into black. It was grisly, and worse was the way Hannibal looked at it. So hungry. Will looked away to try to ensure he didn’t step into Hannibal’s role. He was afraid of how he’d gotten the man’s throat quite so mangled. He tried to ignore the jagged impressions of teeth.

“He was a pig, Will,” Hannibal said evenly, as though he was merely explaining the label of his favorite wine. His words felt like a fly tossed into the water, trying to lure fish to the wicked hook behind the feathers. Will Graham was no fish to catch.

“He was a person,” Will snapped back, unsurprised at how unsteady he sounded. God, he needed a drink.

“How does this make you feel?” Hannibal asked. He sounded genuinely curious. Will realized he’d never been friends with a killer before.

“Disgusted,” Will said because he was supposed to. In truth he didn’t know what to feel. He just couldn’t stop staring at the wave of blood that had kissed and stained his shoe.

“That’ll change,” Hannibal said. “You’re meant for this Will. You should see me as no other. We can be in the dark together, you and I.”

“You’re so sure,” Will said. He knew to keep Hannibal talking. Talking wasn’t killing for witnessing a murder. Or rather, the end of one.

“Fate isn’t something to be tested,” Hannibal replied smoothly, eyes dark and glittering, “we will always end up here, Will. It will always be this, you just don’t know it yet.”
