Lucas North and Ros Myers.  Did you know there is more fic out there shipping Lucas with Adam than there is shipping him with Ros, despite the fact that Adam and Lucas knew each other for less than 24 hours while Lucas and Ros knew each other for months?  And they’re the absolute perfect pair.  Ros never once, despite a comment about Lucas being damaged goods, babied Lucas or treated him like an invalid once Harry brought him back on the Grid, and Lucas has never one bowed down under the weight of Ros’ glares.  Hell, the man gives her sass bordering on sexual harassment while there’s a bomb about to go off in a matter of minutes.  They’re a perfect team together, as seen on multiple operations.  Ros does try to temper Lucas’ recklessness, but she accounts for it and prepares for it, and Lucas knows he can count on Ros to have his back if she’s with him when he does something stupid.  They’re as perfect together as Ruth and Harry, and yet the ship gets next to no recognition in the fandom.

Ros (to Lucas): "I am not getting into a battle over which of us could be the better serial killer. I'm 100% sure MI5 is always on the lookout for conversations like that."

Ros: "But if we WERE having the conversation... I'd be better."

Wes: *crying*

Ros: All right, hey, listen to me - you’re out of control. You’re a baby. Your life is not that hard. You’re embarrassing yourself.

Ruth: What’s the hardest thing for you to say?

Lucas: No.

Ros: I need help.

Harry: I’m sorry.

Unfair.  This was just completely, absolutely unfair.  First she’d lost her first beloved scent when her father’s treason - and Adam’s accusation - had tainted it beyond salvation.  And then she had to go and make small talk with the biggest ass in the service, and everyone suddenly knew the unique materials of her new favorite perfume.  

And she could guess just which little minx was teasing her now about it.

“They synthesize it now,” she said, not looking up.  “But the best scents apparently still prefer the real deal.”  Anyone with knowledge of Ros Myers would know what that meant the answer was.

So I think I’ve answered this one at least four times with Vice, and while this is Vivian’s blog, at this point anyone who wants the epic tale of how Ice and Vivian decided to do their own fucking thing without consulting the muns can just hit me up for it in the IMs.  (But seriously that’s pretty much the entire damn story right there.)

Which means it’s time to admit that SatanFish and I have A Problem, and that Problem is “we meant this to be a BROTP but now they’re in love”.  

Lucas and Ros were not meant to be a ship.  I watched Spooks to get a grasp on SatanFish’s new muse, Lucas North.  Conversations between SatanFish and I quickly took a focus on the relationship between Lucas and Ros Myers (who I was already in love with) and their magnificent broship in the show.

DO NOT ASK ME HOW THAT TURNED INTO LUCAS AND ROS BEING STUPIDLY IN LOVE WITH EACH OTHER BECAUSE I DON’T FUCKING KNOW HOW THAT HAPPENED.  I think one of us brought up the idea of ‘what if they were sleeping together off-screen’, and that just ballooned into ‘nope the real OTP of Spooks is Ros/Lucas’.

Ros: I have an idea. It's very uncool, but it's not illegal, technically. But it IS a dick move.

Lucas: I love it.

Ros, to her father: “I will forgive you most things.  I always will.  But not this.  Not lies, treason, and cowardice.”

Look at those three accusations.  Look at the order she puts them in.  Jocelyn’s biggest crime wasn’t working with Russian mafia, it was lying to Ros and her mother.  Then Ros considers his acts of treason, and after that, it’s not the lives he was partly responsible for threatening or ending - it’s his cowardice in hiding behind the other members of the coup; insisting those choices were their  decisions, not his.

Do not lie to Ros Myers.  Do not betray Ros Myers.  Do not endanger the British people.  And if you do any of those things, fucking own it.

It’s very telling that neither time that Ros was involved in treason - not the coup and not Yalta - did she ever fucking try to deny the actions she’d taken.  Never.  She defended them, she called them necessary, but she never, ever, tried to hide her choices behind someone else’s actions.  

Again: Ros Myers has fucking priorities.  

Ros: “If you’re going to commit treason, FUCKING OWN IT.”

Ros, privately: I’ve been dropping hints that I like him.

Ros to Adam’s face: I can’t stand you.

Day Twenty-Six: Favourite classical female character (from pre-20th century literature or mythology or the like)

I mean, the obvious is Elizabeth Bennett, right?  My mom is a huge Austen fan - even reads Pride & Prejudice fanfiction, which is a sentence I honestly did not ever expect to write - and that did get passed down, to a lesser degree, to me.

On the other hand, my mother handed me Edith Hamilton’s Mythology when I was, maybe, slightly too young for unsantized versions of Greco-Roman mythology.  (And by this I mean, like, 8) and I was just fascinated with Medusa.  And this was decades before I’d read takes about her curse being a blessing in disguise.  I just loved this concept of this snake-haired woman who could turn people (men) to stone just from looking at them.  I mean.  Snake hair was just fucking awesome by itself.  But as someone who was already dealing with bullies in school and in my neighborhood, the idea of being able to turn people to stone by looking at them was incredibly desirable.  Especially if I was allowed to knock them down so they broke into a million pieces.

Needless to say I fucking loathed Perseus. 

Day Twenty-Seven: A female character you have extensive personal canon for

Appropo this blog: Ros Myers.  The Spooks writers gave us hints and tidbits - it’s canon who recruited Ros, but not how or where, it’s canon she was MI6 but not how she became the second in command, it’s canon that her father was ambassador to Russia and the family was wealthy, but how much of that wealth came from Jocelyn’s illegal activities and how much Ros maintained is never discussed.  They gave me a wonderful scaffold to work off of, but at this point Ros is at least 80% mine and only 20% the show writers’ - and that’s before I get into her life after s8, where they so rudely suggested she did something as ridiculous as die.

Jo: How do I deal with my enemies?

Ros: Kill them

Jo: That's a bit extreme, I was hoping for a more passive solution

Ros: Kill them only a little?

Never forget how much Ros truly enjoyed dumping scalding coffee on a rapist’s crotch.  Look at how satisfied she is.  Look how pleased with herself she is.

We should all aspire to be Ros Myers.
