You all better start treating right to your tarot readers. You are not asking for a sandwich -and even then i would suggest you treat workers with respect as well- you are getting a divine gift resulting from hours, even years of study. We are not here to entertain your needs for a bit so be careful with the lack of decency. You don't know who is behind the cards, or what spirit is protecting them. Honor the present they gave you, or get a grip.

Hi! I just came across this post of yours and really loved it; I’m trying to learn tarot myself and I’ve been feeling kind of stuck? So something with an actual exercise is super great! I was wondering if you had any more posts like this with other exercises? 💚💚
Hi! I'm so glad you enjoyed the post :) I just re-opened my blog a week or two ago and I'm very limited in the way of posts to link. But this is an exercise I did when I was starting that really helped me out.
My first tip is, don't try to memorize the cards unless you really enjoy memorizing. I've been reading tarot for almost 14 years and I still very often look up and reference book meanings. I only ever have a couple of key words for each card floating around my noggin at any given time, max. Memorization isn't necessary even for professional readers.
Also, let me encourage you to be very flexible with meanings and don't pressure yourself to read in any certain style. I go through phases lasting months or years where I can only read intuitively, or only through book meanings, or only if I imagine all the cards are characters and settings in an astral world... or lots of wild stuff! If a methodology of approaching the cards isn't working or doesn't make sense, I switch to a new one. Sometimes the Major Arcana only makes sense if I view it as the Fool's Journey, but at other times it only makes sense if I view it as archetypes, or knots of fate. So if you're feeling stuck, try approaching your readings from a totally new perspective. Like, try imagining each card is a character, moment, setting, or plotline from your favorite fandom, for rexample. Have fun with it!
But I do have an exercise for you!
One important concept in tarot is 'linking the cards'. This is the concept of reading the cards in such a way that they influence each other. A great way to practice this is to read pairs of cards as if they are one card. For example:
On it's own, I usually read the Four of Swords as necessary rest after a struggle.
On its own, I usually read the Moon as a full, luminous moon that waxes good fortune and brings insight.
But to practice linking them, I read them as one. I let their meanings intermingle and change each other like watercolors swirling on the page to form something new. Now, they are not separate cards of rest and fortune. I ignore the borders of the cards and imagine that they are one scene, that the imagery combines and plays together. Now, maybe I perceive this new combination as "the fortuitous chance to rest, and that rest will bring luminous insight."
Or, perhaps my pair is 4/Swords and the Sun. I set them side by side and try to read them as one card. Maybe now this combination means, "rest and rejuvination through joyous play, sporting, and youthful activity."
I practiced reading two cards as one a TON when I started. I even went as far as reading spreads, with every card replaced by a pair of cards. I feel these efforts really helped me understand how cards can fit together.
(I am so sorry for the length; I am psychologically incapable of brevity)

I've been reading tarot for over three years now, so here are some little tips based on my own experience and reading style. Things may be different for yourself and other readers.
• If the empress and emperor come out next to each other in a reading, they represent a couple. Usually a married couple, or a couple that have been committed long term.
• The hierophant often represents traditional, religious and spiritual matters... but it can also represent being a role model or person of authority (look at the rider-waite deck and notice the two people below the hierophant). This may be different depending on the deck, though.
• Court cards most often end up representing individual people for me. Each court card represents different personalities. They usually end up representing people whose astrology placements match the element of the suit the most (swords = air signs, wands = fire signs, pentacles = earth signs, cups = water signs).
• Write down your readings as you go, even if you're a more experienced reader. Doing this will document your readings and it will help you learn how to interpret the cards. You can look back at the readings later and see what ended up being accurate and what didn't.
• Be mindful of how fast you are shuffling the cards. Most of the time, those "jumpers" aren't related to the reading at all. They're just a result of rushed and clumsy shuffling. If the same card jumps out a second time, then it may be related to the reading. Use your intuition to pick the cards.
• If your deck's imagery isn't minimalistic, focus more on the imagery than memorizing the general card meanings. Think of the symbolism behind the imagery.
• When you start learning tarot, determine which tarot card represents you. Court cards are usually the cards that represent people for me, but sometimes major arcanas do too.
