Uther: he's the crown prince. He can't be rejected by a servant and then be heartbroken over it. What will the people think?
Merlin: at least you don't think I'm responsible for this.
Bonus:
Uther: True love's kiss can break the spell?
Gaius: yes, sire. There is no love potion that can't be broken by it.
Uther: goddamn it, Gaius, you should have told me that BEFORE i drugged him!

Merlin yanks open the door to find Arthur in a button down shirt, nice slacks, and a nervous smile, holding a box of Belgian chocolate.
“What are you doing here?” Merlin hisses pushing Arthur backward so he can close the door.
“You said I had to come to dinner or you couldn’t have friends over.”
“Which is why you couldn’t come over tonight!”
“Or…” Arthur holds up the box of chocolate, and raises his eyebrows meaningfully.
“No,” Merlin gasps, praying to every god from Thor to Hades to deliver him from this torture. “No. No. No.”

I cannot stop thinking about if Merlin and Arthur went sent to the Trojan War by some wayward magic, and just how absolutely messed up Achilles and Patroclus would be by it. I mean they’re clearly in love and refusing to acknowledge it. Arthur would be absolutely happy as hell to run away to a farm and live a life without fame. (Achilles would never.) And Merlin’s shoving him toward destiny, all the while really it’s Merlin with God-like powers, refusing all glory (again Achilles could never) and Patroclus is just gaping at them like… WTAF, and then realizes that Arthur is so fiercely protective and possessive of his literal murder weapon sidekick while his own god-like lover dressed him up as himself, knowing he sucked at fighting, and let him go get killed because of his pride.
Like the insanity of those two couples meeting would satisfy me for maybe days.

I wrote this when I was almost asleep, so to expand:
Arthur has a very long parchment about how Merlin’s never around when he needs him, and he misses him, and he’s worried about him. He reads two lines, gets to a particularly sappy part and just starts shouting that he doesn’t pay Merlin to be a drunkard.
Gaius is apologetic, but he’s written an entirely fictional letter about how sad Merlin’s mum would be if she knew how much he’s drinking.
Percival and Elyan worked on their letter together and tell Merlin that they’re there for Merlin no matter what.
Gwaine refuses to participate as there’s nothing wrong with going to the tavern. He offers Merlin a tankard of mead and Arthur kicks him out.
Lancelot refuses to say anything except, “I support Merlin.”
Leon speaks for nearly an hour about how he understands why Merlin drinks, by the end of which they all want a drink.
Morgana and Gwen refuse to participate and take advantage of the distraction to find a quiet place to make out.
