( this is basically just a very self indulgent list of various fluff, angst, and suggestive themed dialogue sentence starters. )
❛ i could keep you safe. they’re all afraid of me. ❜
❛ i’m trying to fix your hair, so hold still. ❜
❛ your heart is beating so fast right now. ❜
❛ promise me you’ll still be here when i wake up. ❜
❛ you’re not as bad as everyone says you are. ❜
❛ i thought you’d like some company. ❜
❛ clean yourself up. you're getting blood all over the place. ❜
❛ here, give this a try and tell me what you think. ❜
❛ you can kiss me, you know. ❜
❛ come back to bed. ❜
❛ you look good like this. ❜
❛ working together again, it’s just like old times. ❜
❛ how is it you always know what i need, huh? ❜
❛ you’re lucky you got away with only a scratch. ❜
❛ i can’t imagine losing someone like that. i’m sorry. ❜
❛ you know you can always talk to me. ❜
❛ the only one who gets to kill you, is me. ❜
❛ so, what do i owe this pleasure? ❜
❛ ah, so you aren’t heartless after all. ❜
❛ may i have this dance? ❜
❛ it’s okay, you can touch me. i won't break. ❜
❛ enemies make the best lovers, you know. ❜
❛ hold still. this might sting a little. ❜
❛ we can't keep doing this. ❜
❛ you look like you've got something to say. ❜
❛ just relax and let me take care of you. ❜
❛ thought you’d be lighter without all that blood. ❜
❛ i had it under control. you didn’t need to do that. ❜
❛ everything looks so beautiful from up here. ❜
❛ you treat all your ladies like this? ❜
❛ well? how do i look? ❜
❛ can’t sleep? ❜
❛ do you mind if i smoke? ❜
❛ i’m scared of ending up alone. ❜
❛ i don’t think i’ve ever seen you smile. ❜
❛ how long has it been since you've slept? ❜
❛ you are losing my interest, and that’s very dangerous. ❜
❛ i’d suffer hell if you’d tell me what you’d do to me tonight. ❜
❛ you look really pretty right now. ❜
❛ i’ve never cared for anyone the way i care for you. ❜
❛ i’m not wearing any underwear. thought you’d like to know. ❜
❛ just a few more stitches and you’ll be as good as new. ❜
❛ i’d say we make a pretty good team. ❜
❛ i want you to forget this ever happened. ❜
❛ i'm here for business — not pleasure. ❜
❛ if i didn't know any better, i'd say you were jealous. ❜
❛ you'd look better down on your knees. ❜
❛ fine, keep acting like you hate me. ❜
❛ kiss me again. ❜
❛ are you asking me out on a date? ❜
❛ just sit there and look pretty and let me handle this. ❜
❛ you okay? caught you staring off into space again. ❜
❛ well, i do feel better now that you're here. ❜
❛ i'm not drunk enough for this. ❜
❛ why is it whenever we see each other, you’re covered in blood? ❜
❛ i was wrong about you. ❜
❛ the first time i met you, i had no idea you'd mean this much. ❜
❛ you gonna be a good girl / boy for me? ❜
❛ i’m not afraid of you. ❜
❛ books mean more to me than people anyway. ❜
❛ i just wanted to say thank you for protecting me. ❜
❛ how about a kiss goodnight? ❜
❛ i don’t have time for distractions right now. ❜
❛ you shouldn’t be out here by yourself. ❜
❛ if i have to think about one more thing today, my head will explode. ❜

❛⠀⠀you shouldn't make promises you can't keep,⠀⠀❜ she mocks, because never has ash been able to keep good on his word of ending her life at the will of his hand. and, her own round of giggles slip into the air for that knowledge. ❛⠀⠀you haven't had much luck thus far,⠀⠀❜ she continues needling him with her words. if this was her only blade to wield against him, god be damned she'd use it over and over again. however her own amusement dies with his remark. her face twisting up with vexation, yet again.
❛⠀⠀have i already told you, you're insufferable?⠀⠀❜ she has, but her previous admiration for the hero's who hung around her childhood now brought her a sense of shame -- cringing at the prospect that she aspired to walk in their footsteps. yet, her internal thoughts are interrupted by ash's resurfacing anger. it's genuine, and she's known him long enough to tell. she gathers herself, responding in a measured manner.
❛⠀⠀they're assholes,⠀⠀❜ she declares, her tone patronizing, as if to appease him while also admitting the harsh truth. she never intended to downplay her parents' wrongdoings, but sharing the reality of her life feels embarrassing, exposing how little those who were supposed to love her truly cared. ❛⠀⠀but what do you want from me?⠀⠀❜ she asks with a dry laugh. ❛⠀⠀a sob story? want me to cry about it—like a creep?⠀⠀❜ she jests, attempting to deflect with humor. ❛⠀⠀in case you didn't remember, you got that already. The first time is free,⠀⠀❜ she quips, extending her hand as if to demand payment. ❛⠀⠀if you want it again, i'm afraid i'll have to charge,⠀⠀❜ she continues, playing along with the charade. ❛⠀⠀like you said, you know.⠀⠀❜ perhaps he didn't know everything—she hadn't disclosed the grueling training sessions she endured—but he was aware enough to deduce that her youth wasn't ideal. ❛⠀⠀you're just a nosy little shit,⠀⠀❜ she counters, her tone sharp. ❛⠀⠀don't pretend you care.⠀⠀❜
"Think about laying a finger on me again and you'll be dust," he hisses in response to her threat, his tone edged with warning. He wouldn't be foolish enough to fall for that tactic again, not after discovering her true capabilities. He rolls his eyes at her playful finger-wiggling, a gesture that seems to draw others to her like moths to a flame. It's as if she's portraying herself as some cliché manic pixie dream girl. But despite his outward disdain, he understands all too well the humiliation she speaks of. After all, before his scheme to whisk her away from hero society, he delved into his fair share of research.
While the Ki family had managed to scrub most of the footage of that fateful day from the internet, with enough persistence—and a willingness to delve into darker corners—you could unearth the clip of Jinx's meltdown. A young child unleashing power that plunged an entire city ward without power. It was destructive, with some buildings even sustaining damage due to the distortion that occurred. Jeremy had voiced his belief in her potential, that she was more capable than she let on. Kyumin, however, dismisses it as a mere fluke. Yet, he pretends to remain ignorant of such truths.
"What, did you puke in front of one of your daddy's hero buddies?" he sneers, stifling a venomous laugh behind his hand as he mocks her, despite knowing the reality behind her past struggles. But his mood darkens as she continues, irritated by her persistent attempts to downplay the misdeeds of her parental figures, as if she were shielding them from his judgment—a courtesy he doubts they would extend to her. "Why do you always do that?" he demands, his anger simmering as she persists in her attempts to save face with her frivolous antics. "You can admit they were assholes," he critiques, his mind drifting back to their late teens, a time when one might have dared to label them as something resembling friends. "I remember enough to know that much. I'm actually a little disappointed."

❛⠀⠀if you liked it so much, i wouldn't mind letting you have another go at it,⠀⠀❜ she threatens playfully, her hand pixelating with the wiggle of her fingers, a mischievous glint in her eye. she can't help but snort at his choice of words—'hurt like a bitch' was certainly one way to put it. ❛⠀⠀but yeah, you could say that,⠀⠀❜ she agrees with a casual nod.
the initial spark of her quirk's manifestation had sent her to her knees amidst family pictures and the press, a memory that still carries a sting. ❛⠀⠀it was also humiliating as hell, ⠀⠀❜ she adds, attempting to mask the depth of emotion behind a joking facade, though the feelings it stirs within her aren't nearly as light-hearted. ❛⠀⠀it wasn't exactly a choice to use it again,⠀⠀❜ she counters at his jab, her tone carrying a hint of defiance. and indeed, it hadn't been. sooji's glitching had been an involuntary act at first, overwhelming her childhood with its unpredictability. her family had reached a point where they refused to let her out, then resorted to forcing her to practice her ability for excruciating periods of time in a desperate bid to gain control. their image as one of the nation's perfect families is in jeopardy because of her. ❛⠀⠀they were embarrassed,⠀⠀❜ the girl refers vaguely. ❛⠀⠀so they made me practice,⠀⠀❜ she sugarcoats with a wry grin, her gaze flickering with a mixture of resignation and resilience. ❛⠀⠀by ten, I stopped getting nauseous.⠀⠀❜ at that point she could go on hours without problem, though her involuntary pixelation could only be kept to a minimum. despite her best efforts, it still wasn't good enough.
❛⠀⠀impressed?⠀⠀❜ she asks with the wiggle of her brows, attempting to keep the mood light.
His expression shifts to one of blankness as her admission settles in. Kyu had always found it easier to spew words laced with venom rather than offer sentiments that might bring solace. That fact leaves him at a loss in this moment. "So, it hurt like a bitch," he interjects, partly seeking clarification and partly to deflect the sliver of sympathy beginning to brew inside him. "Thanks for giving me a taste of being a physical error," he adds with a layer of sarcasm, a defense mechanism kicking in. "I'd never have used that shit again," he mutters, referring to her quirk, though what he truly means to ask is how she endured the pain to reach this point. "When did it even start getting better?" he questions, his tone tinged with curiosity and a miniscule of genuine concern.

his condescending attitude grates on her nerves, painting irritation clear across her features. yet, as he divulges more, she falls into a contemplative silence. weighing whether it's even worth sharing with someone who acts as he does. allowing his question to settle in, sooji shuffles, adjusting herself to lean against the base of her sink—her place not fancy enough for cabinets. and, his inquiry offers a glimpse into how her quirk functions, prompting her to press her head back against the cool ceramic, exhaling a sigh before mustering the courage to speak.
❛⠀⠀not anymore,⠀⠀❜ she admits, a revelation she's never before shared with anyone, at least not about the sensation her quirk used to evoke, the reason she avoided exploring it in her youth. ❛⠀⠀when it first manifested, it made me sick,⠀⠀❜ she recalls vividly the day her power first emerged, at one of her parents' hero galas, an event marred by her sudden outburst. ❛⠀⠀i guess...⠀⠀❜ she hesitates, mulling it over. ❛⠀⠀maybe i'm just numb to it now.⠀⠀❜ a shrug rolls off her shoulders, tearing her attention away from the ceiling to steal a glance at him.
"You know." He says it like she's stupid, as if she's asked the dumbest question in the world and the mere thought of him having to spell it out for her is burdensome. "Does your quirk feel like that," he repeats without explanation; his face pulling into something mirroring discomfort. Finally he moves himself from leaning completely over the tub. Rather prompting himself to sit up, like any decent person who'd be in their right mind to sit on a bathroom floor. "That god awful spinning. My brain felt like it was going to be split in two," he adds, shuddering outwardly, perhaps more for theatrical effect than genuine pain. "Is that how it feels? To use your quirk?"

ziggy's smile only widens, sharp canines shown off too the world because it humors him. rising through the ranks among his esteemed colleagues, heroes in their own right, would require more than just resilience. it's a wonder how he's garnered such public favor, but he nods nonetheless. if only he weren't so achy, or if he weren't concerned about her well-being after the day's attack, he'd offer a friendly nudge. ❛⠀⠀you better watch out,⠀⠀❜ he teases. ❛⠀⠀i might just sneak pass you in the rankings.⠀⠀❜ though he doubts it; sarang is a force to be reckoned with—flashy, formidable, and exceptional at her job. he's on the verge of saying something lighthearted to prolong this moment, but her flinch catches him off guard, rendering him silent.
after putting their lives on the line for the people they've sworn to protect, distinguishing whose blood is whose can be a daunting task. yet, as he notices her fingers stained crimson, he knows it's her own. without thought, he gently turns her face towards him, concern etching into his gaze. ❛⠀⠀should we find a medic?⠀⠀❜ he asks, inspecting the wound. ❛⠀⠀are you feeling dizzy? nauseous?⠀⠀❜ he begins listing off the symptoms of a concussion, his worry evident.
the blonde rolled her eyes playfully, shaking her head at his words, "oh yeah, that for sure bring you up the hero ranks," she continued the friendly banter with him. the smile she wore faded slightly the moment he winced, her hand extended out towards him but stopped herself shortly before touching him. sarang balled her fist, allowing it to fall back to her lap reluctantly, his words once again echoed in her mind and all the reasons to why she built a wall between them were her reminder to keep this strictly professional. just another day at work for the heroes. her eyes moved to look over at the building that was missing chunks from the side, a dry laugh falling from her lips. "you might be right, hopefully their insurance covers that because that looks terrible," she nodded while glancing back at him. their proximity to each other much closer than she would have ever allowed anyone else to be, but there was something about his energy that made her crave how it felt to be near him, even in their current condition. her fingers moved to tuck the strands of her blonde hair behind her ear, only to wince in pain while pulling her hand away, glancing at the crimson liquid on her fingertips. "ah, unlike you, i am not indestructible," she laughed awkwardly, wiping her bloody fingers on her clothing.

the mention of the police has jinho's face scrunching up in confusion and distaste. was that a threat that he'd call the authorities on him if he didn't respect his word, or was the older man trying to hint at something else? it put a bad taste in his mouth and jinho held back from saying something idiotic. this was jaehwa's brother after all. ❛⠀yeah , like i said . . i'll use the door.⠀⠀❜ㅤ or better yet, he probably wouldn't be showing his face around here anymore. he was trying hard to place hanuel in his own gauge of classist asshole or decent nepo baby-- but the more the elder spoke, it was leaning toward the previous. ❛⠀⠀you know,⠀⠀❜ㅤ jinho decides to be honest. ❛⠀ i can't tell if you like me or not. ⠀⠀❜ㅤ if there was one thing, jinho hated, it was those who were passive aggressive. he'd rather just know flat out. he wasn't willing to read between the lines.
the silence between them was palpable after the youngers question, haneul glanced to the side with his customer service smile. as his brain tried to rake up an answer. his entire living room was covered with plants, and he knew jaehwa used them to eavesdrop. haneul rubbed his palms on his pajamas while clearing his throat, "yes, knock, that will be wonderful," he nodded while shifting in his seat. "great way to avoid getting the police involved or the security team using their quirk on you."

rarely did sooji find herself thrust into the spotlight, a mere pawn in the league's grandiose theatrics. but, these days, their schemes had escalated, growing in audacity and impact. their power finally being recognized once and for all, and no longer could sooji hide behind the comfort of a computer screen. now, shoulder to shoulder with her fellow villain's, fighting for their own twisted brand of justice. and, there's something to bask in, in seeing the people she once aspired to be, be squished beneath the weight of their own inadequacies. fueled by adrenalin and the high of feeling superior for once in her life, sooji reveled in the sensation she'd only ever yearned for. she knew her family would see the league's exploits in the news and lament the tragedy of it all, unaware of her own hand in their demise. but it was too late for regrets. the stain of hero blood on her hands marked a point of no return.
yet, in the wake of the chaotic skirmish, the air thick with the acrid scent of battle, sooji's euphoria gave way to the sight of ash's figure staggering toward her in the dust. half expecting him to give her some backhanded compliment -- to squish her spirt with words as he always did, she hadn't expected his once formidable presence to be reduced to a mere weight against her. his breaths shallow and labored. fallen in her arms -- the display of vulnerability sent shivers down her spine. because how wounded must he have been to allow himself to appear this weak in her presence?
for that thought, the girl found herself clutching onto ash's limp form. fingers trembling as they traced the jagged edges of his wounds, crimson staining his tattered clothes. amidst the battle, she had been blind to the severity of his injuries, consumed by the onslaught of their enemies. but now, with the adrenaline fading, the gravity of the situation crashed down upon her like a tidal wave.
❛⠀⠀ash,⠀⠀❜ㅤㅤshe whispered, her voice barely audible over the din of the aftermath. ❛⠀⠀c'mon, get up,⠀⠀❜ㅤㅤshe hoped he was merely toying with her. it struck her with a bitter irony – how she had often wished for his downfall, even prayed for it. though when faced with the potential outcome, fear gripped her soul.
❛⠀⠀don't do this to me,⠀⠀❜ㅤㅤshe warned, her voice woven with desperation. ❛⠀⠀we need to get home.⠀⠀❜ㅤㅤit sounded more like a plea than anything else. ❛⠀⠀we'll find a way to patch you up,⠀⠀❜ㅤㅤshe continued.
in that moment, all pretense fell away, leaving only the raw vulnerability of two villains bound by circumstance and shared history.
❛⠀⠀i promise .⠀⠀❜ㅤㅤ

with a ferocity akin to a tempest, it's fury that drives sooji's movements as she storms towards the source of her indignation. youthful and audacious, the door slams shut behind her petite frame, halting only when she stands face to face with him. fists clenched at her sides, her fingertips flicker with the tumult of her emotions—a stark reminder that even now, her control over her quirk remains elusive, a detail she refuses to grant ash the satisfaction of witnessing. ❛⠀⠀i can't fucking believe you,⠀⠀❜ she spits out, her anger so palpable that tears threaten to spill over her lashes, a testament to the depth of her fury. yet beneath the rage lies a simmering betrayal, gnawing at the pit of her stomach, for some foolish part of her had dared to hope that perhaps they were finding common ground. maybe the animosity between them had eroded with time, softened by the shared turmoil of adolescence and an unreciprocated admiration for their leader. she had dared to believe that he might have finally accepted her as part of the team. but that hope, she now realizes, was nothing but a cruel illusion. not when he had weaponized her own confidences against her. ❛⠀⠀i trusted you,⠀⠀❜ㅤshe chokes out, her features contorted with hurt, a painful reminder of a mistake she vows never to repeat.

the moment river arrives on the scene, lily senses it. he stands out like a sore thumb amidst the chaos of bandits, dropping in like a present from the sky. it's a stark reminder of their differences, perhaps the reason they make such a formidable team. with river's presence igniting her spirit, lily springs back into action, her legs propelling her toward her partner as their adversaries' attention is diverted elsewhere. summoning her floras, she commands them to crack through the grey pavements. she can only hope the cities commission won't hate her for it. her vines shoot toward the looter she now recognizes as the possessor of the pyro quirk. evident as he hurls a ball of fire river's way.
❛⠀⠀hey, not everyone can be as funny as you,⠀⠀❜ㅤㅤlily offers, unable to suppress her laughter at his quip. river was notorious for his absurd one-liners. by this point, he should have been collecting royalties for the nonsense he spouted in battle.
❛⠀⠀the hothead's the one with the red sneakers,⠀⠀❜ㅤㅤshe informs through their speaker, latching her vine onto the stranger's ankle. she knows she must act swiftly before he can redirect his attack— he poses the greatest threat. with that in mind, she yanks him toward her, throwing him off balance. she needs to immobilize him, and fast. she'll shove a dozen daisies in his face if she has to.
❛⠀⠀round up the others?⠀⠀❜ㅤㅤshe asks, already formulating a plan. if they can paralyze this one, victory should be within reach, relatively easy.
river was hoping for a quiet night, yet hearing lily through their ear piece meant he wouldn't be home for a while; a massive bummer for him since he had some leftover pizza in his fridge that demanded his attention. he changed his course while swinging from building to building turning to head towards lily. humming some tune that he had heard on the radio earlier that day but couldn't quite place the lyrics, still that didn't stop him. he was close by as he heard the comment she made through the communicator, laughing softly. "aw man, don't let the party start without me!" he whined while spotting her from the distance.
it didn't take him long to reach her, as he landed in front of the masked figures. his hand coming out, pointing a finger over at them. "what do you guys got there?" he tilted his head, nudging at the bags they carried. "did you guys steal some allergy medicine?" he asked while resting his hands on his hip. "because if you didn't then what's the point of even robbing a pharmacy? how about some bug spray?" he continued to chat, to the masked figures who clearly weren't in the mood for his shenanigans. a glowing sphere hurtled his way, as he dodged it, landing on a light pole, "looks like they should have stolen a sense of humor," river mumbled to himself, knowing his ear piece was still on, so lily could definitely here it.

the ache burns as he takes his seat beside her. he knows he should walk it off, or perhaps even seek out the nearby medics, but with sarang next to him, those concerns fade into insignificance. the tension in his muscles easing slightly as she doesn't immediately pull away from him. for that, his features soften whilst he offers her a small smile. ❛⠀⠀dude, i feel like a hundred bucks,⠀⠀❜ㅤ he muses, genuinely elated that he hasn't completely ruined everything between them. he can appreciate her presence in silence, loving her from afar if that's all he can manage given their circumstances. he'll keep those feelings to himself for the sake of moments like this, where he can simply be with her. ❛⠀⠀'s just a few scratches —they should add 'indestructible' to my quirk stats,⠀⠀❜ㅤ a faint laugh meddles into her own. though it makes him wince slightly as a sudden sharp pain shoots through him. maybe he did break a rib or two. ❛⠀⠀honestly, i might have done more damage to the building than vice versa.⠀⠀❜ㅤ
the adrenaline was still running its course through her veins, smoke undulating out of her palms from the overuse of her quirk. breathing rapidly, her chest heaving while trying to calm herself down while glancing around to make sure everything was finally over and everyone was safe. her wounds demanding attention but she pushed the feeling aside while trying to walk but that goddamn robot had taken everything out of her. sarang gritted her teeth while resting against a flipped over car, while the smoke dwindled from her palms. adrenaline leaving her with nothing but an ache all over her body, crimson eyes landing on ziggy, almost comical how he was almost always her partner; convinced fate was just merely cruel. his confession from their last battle echoed in her mind, while her eyes remained glued to him, giving him a once over, assuring herself that he was in one piece. the blonde glanced away, her eyes now glued on the post battle wreckage in front of them. "thank you, so did you," she murmured. "how are you feeling? you hit that building pretty hard," she laughed dryly, trying to keep things as casual as possible.

❛⠀⠀so, that's it?⠀⠀❜ㅤㅤjinho asked, genuinely curious if that was the extent of her older brother's concern. but jinho, lacking charm in his nature, inadvertently came across harsher than he intended. oops. ❛⠀⠀but, i'll make sure to knock next time,⠀⠀❜ he added with a shrug, the words rolling off his shoulders casually. though hanuel couldn't intervene in his and jaehwa's bond, he couldn't help but wonder if perhaps he wished he could.
haneul sighs while leaning back on his chair, clasping his hands together. "i don't want you to think that you aren't welcome here," he stated softly, thinking his next words thoroughly. a part of him wanted nothing more than to jump up from where he sat and dance around in victory, not having to worry about the other ever sneaking in to see his sister — an older brother win in his books — yet, he knew jaehwa would most likely never forgive him, and the last thing he wants is her to move back to her cottage by that disgusting pond. "you can visit whenever you like, just please use the front door," he gestured toward the door. "it's less alarming and much more safe," he nodded while speaking. "i know that i cannot intervene in your friendship or whatever you have going on," he continued, "but i just hope that you can be a gentleman and encourage the open door policy..."
