Scara/Wanderer

"tsk, idiot" his voice drifted towards you, annoyance lacing his words.

if it were anyone else, they'd think he was simply annoyed. but only you knew the underlying amusement that was so faint you almost missed it, but it was there nonetheless.

flicking the snow from his shoulders, he stalked towards you menacingly.

"you'll pay for that."

you only stuck out your tongue at him in answer, turning around to take more snow into your hands.

but when you whirled around, he'd disappeared. the snow in your hands got heavier by the second. had he really gotten angry? that angry? enough to leave?

a shadow passed swiftly overhead you, the speed making snow fly off the grass around you. you felt arms wrap around your waist, lifting you off the ground and at a considerable height.

your shriek of alarm turned into laughter as you realised who's arms were around you, your breathe fogging in front of your face.

"you scared me! i need a warning next time please."

scara only huffed in response, his hold tightening. slowly and gently the world around you shifted as scara moved around, carrying you in his arms. you snuggled closer to his chest, making yourself comfortable.

"will you do romantic stuff like this after the winters or is it exclusive to this season?" you quip, tugging at his hat.

you plummeted suddenly, your heart going to your throat as a surprised yelp comes out of you. you glare up at your boyfriend only to be met with a satisfied smirk.

"you keep acting that way and i might make it exclusive only to today. but yes, i'll do this for you. even when the slow melts."

Unfamiliar Feelings

It has been a few days since Neuvillette last saw you. He remembered how he had stood at Romaritime Port, waving back at you as you set sail on another adventure. He remembered how your hair whipped in the wind, clothes rippling around you, face set in a smile as you waved back at everyone. He remembered the funny feeling he got when he saw your figure getting smaller and smaller and eventually melting into the horizon.

Neuvillette knew the day would come when you would leave Fontaine to step out and explore other nations and progress in your journey to find your sibling. He never gave much thought to it. But looking back, maybe he should have.

He has been a dragon in a human form for a long time, trying to understand his feelings. And just as he had thought he had a grasp, there was this unusual feeling bubbling inside of him. It was not uncomfortable but it made him ache. It was not sad, yet he felt loss.

Memories of you flashed in Neuvillette mind, the determination with which you fought for Lyney in the Opera House, the admiration when you realised he was the Hydro Dragon Sovereign. The words on the case file in front of him could not, would not register to him.

The days whizzed by, trail upon trial conducted by Neuvillette purely based on his instinct and experience because he could not, would not pay attention in court. It puzzled Neuvillette to no end. Over 400 years of a lifetime and yet, he couldn't pinpoint what it was.

Was it love? He wasn't sure. Had he not felt love before? Of course he had. His love for Carole was the same as the love of a father holding his daughter's hand as they walked. His love for Vautrin was the same as the love of a friend fighting alongside the other.

Then what was this? It was love and yet it was something he had not experienced. The urge to see you again only grew day by day with no solution in sight.

Neuvillette sighed, setting aside the papers on his desk and looking up at the vaulted ceiling of his office.

He really missed you.

meeting at the masquerade

characters: Kaveh reader: fem!reader warnings: !spoilers for the interdarshan championship event! word count: 1059 words a/n: honestly so excited to be writing for kaveh just *chefs kiss* i didn’t think this would become like, a constant prompt for other characters? i plan to continue the original diluc one but if anyone wants me to write this with another characters, feel free to drop a request. the Diluc fic is here!

Kaveh

The Akademiya was packed with students, professors and matras alike. It was unusual seeing the place so filled, especially when the yearly assessments were less than 2 months away.

Of course, it was no ordinary party that was taking place either. It was the celebration for Kaveh, the representative for Kshahrewar, who won the Interdarshan Championship that’s held every 10 years. The Akademiya was decked in flowers and flying mechanical butterflies, which had no business being there but still were fluttering around. The usual curtains had been switched out for luxurious satin ones, the rich sheen reflecting off the light from the dim chandeliers. Soft jazz music played, the origin nowhere in sight.

You fixed the mask on your face again, it was a loose fit but you were working with it since it had been the only one left at the store. All the stone-studded masks had been sold out as soon as the Akademiya had released the invites for the masquerade, leaving you with one that didn’t sit quite well on your face. Nonetheless, the amethyst studded mask was a perfect match for your violet gown, the beaded bodice tight around your waist before it cascaded elegantly to the floor. The layers of tulle swayed and swished as you walked, your eyes scanning the hall for any familiar faces.

Being a student of Amurta, you didn’t really mingle with students outside your darshan. This hadn’t really caused any problems for you, until now that is. Not being able to spot anyone you knew, you wandered around aimlessly till you neared the stage. A sage droned about the importance of the championship and other stuff you didn’t care enough about to listen to. The victor, Kaveh, was nowhere to be seen. You’d only seen him in passing. All you knew about Kaveh was that he was from Kshahrewar and designed the Palace of Alcarzarzaray, his magnum opus.

Your eyes were fixated on the reflection of the chandelier on your wine glass, lost in your thoughts, when you saw the light sway. Puzzled, you look up to see what looked like a dusk bird had gotten stuck in the intricate framework of the crystals. It was flapping desperately to get out, its squawks drowned by the buzzing of the people and the playing melodies. It was straining towards the open doors of the balcony, through which you assumed it had originally flown into the Akademiya from. Keeping your glass on a nearby table, you looked around the hall for a way to get the poor bird out of its predicament. Your attention was so preoccupied by the bird as you walked towards the balcony that you didn’t see a young man rush towards you, hands outstretched. You bumped into each other, the jolt sending your loose mask flying over the railing of the balcony.

Disoriented, you steadied yourself as the young man profusely apologized, peering down the balcony to grimace.

“I’m sorry for that, I didn’t see you there. Wait. Where were you even looking?”

You didn’t want to be rude by pointing out that he hadn’t been looking either but you raised your hand towards the chandelier to show him the trapped dusk bird.

“Oh. Oh yeah that. I was rushing for it too. Wait. Wait a minute. It’s not there. Did it fall?”

Before you could reply, he rushed into the throng of people to look for it. You took the time to see if you could spot your fallen mask but it wouldn’t have survived the fall anyways.

A minute later, the man emerged back, the dusk bird squawking weakly in his arms.

“I..don’t know what to do with this. Are you an Amurta student?”

“Yes but I specialize in human physiology, not animals.” You replied, grimacing at your incompetence.

Engrossed in his thoughts, the man didn't notice as you took a good look at him, his shirt and emerald coat rumpled. His red eyes were unlike anything you've seen before, the green feather in his hair a striking contrast. His green stone embellished mask sat perfectly, matching effortlessly with the rest of his outfit. The realization dawned on you suddenly.

"Wait. You're Kaveh? The victor of the Interdarshan Championship?"

Kaveh's ears went red as you realized his identity. Stuttering, he explained that he was indeed Kaveh but did not want to be the center of attention.

"But this whole celebration is for you?" You asked, intrigued by his behavior.

"Yeah I uh. I don't really like this display of splendor. I'd have preferred if they donated all the money used to poor people or to help students with their research."

You agreed with him silently, taking a good look at all the riches you could see inside the hall. You saw a man with long fox-like ears drifting through the crowd with General Mahamatra Cyno at his side. That’s when you came up with an idea.

Calling out to Kaveh, you pointed at the pair in the crowd.

“Don’t you know Tighnari from Amurta? He took part in the Championship too, didn't he? Why don’t you go ask him? I’m sure he can help the bird.”

Kaveh’s scarlet eyes lit up at that and your heart took on a weird rhythm. Thanking you profusely, he disappeared, making his way amongst the swarm of people and you could see his blond head making a beeline for Tighnari at the opposite end of the room.

You couldn’t help but feel disappointed that you didn’t even get to tell him your name, much less converse more about other things. His views aligned with yours and Kaveh felt like someone you’d enjoy being with. You left the Akademiya just a few minutes later, not wanting to spend time in the stifling halls.

A few days later, you see a note slipped under your dormitory door. It was written in neat and elegant handwriting, addressed to you.

“Hello y/n

I thank you for saving the dusk bird at the Akademiya last week. Without you, I wouldn’t have thought of anything. The bird is well and Tighnari has asked me to come take a look. Would you like to join me? If you’re not busy of course. I’m leaving this evening for Avidya Forest. It would be nice to have some company.

I’ll be waiting in the Grand Bazaar.”

there’s no running away from this man. everytime you kiss, it's not a light peck on the cheek or a brief touch on the lips, oh no. it's a full blown make out session each and every time. the hands on waist, bruised lips, hair askew type. if and IF you do manage to run away, he’ll catch up to you in no time, his long strides keeping pace as you run. he’ll catch you in his arms and carry you bridal style to his room. you weren’t escaping this time.

Kazuha

it's always tender kisses and light touches with him. you keep pranking him and he falls for it everytime, his heart is too soft to look past your mischievous agendas. not this time though. he must have seen the devious spark in your eyes because as soon as you took off, so did he sprinting along with you and tackling you to the ground, both of you laughing. he kissed you then, holding you flush to his chest as if to never let go.

Scaramouche

it's a wonder you even got to kiss him, much less run away after that. he'll only tsk if you do, but inside you know he's trying to understand why you ran. of course he's not going to run after you. it's scaramouche. he's not letting you have the satisfaction of knowing that it got to him. good luck trying to kiss him again. it's only after much pleading and an ungodly amount of time spent on making puppy eyes does he finally yield. don't pull that shit on him.

Meeting at the Masquerade

Diluc

You felt out of place at the ball. Being a lady entailed you to attend parties you didn’t like attending, but you did it for the sake of the family name. Your parents ushered you to every ball in the city, hoping you’d bump into a handsome suitor in one of them.

You cast a glance around the wide ballroom, seeing not handsome men or beautiful women but bejewelled, colourful masks. Right. You were attending a masquerade at the Dawn Winery, in honor of the owner, Diluc Ragnvindr’s birthday. You hadn't seen him all night, though you'd tried to find him. Not in hopes of catching his eye, oh no. You knew the Ragnvindr heir was famous for rejecting any who came to him, men and women alike. You simply wanted to thank him for the invitation. But his red mane was nowhere to be seen.

Tugging at the fox mask that fit rather snugly onto your face, your mouth formed a thin line. The invitation to the ball had reached your doorstep last week, sending your mother into a frenzy of dresses and jewels for the past 7 days. The crimson ball gown you wore, now fluttered behind you as you explored the ballroom in hopes of finding a familiar face.

But wherever you looked, you were greeted with glassy eyes behind masks. Of course, the Dawn Winery would not have a party without, well, wine. It disgusted you to no end but you could not leave the party before the birthday toast. Your shoulders were beginning to slump as you wandered alone, wine glass in hand.

You raised your glass to your lips, tasting the wine for the first time that night when it splashed all over your face and dress. You gaped at the glass, wondering what you'd done to anger it when someone offered you a handkerchief.

“I’m so sorry I did not see you there. I apologise for ruining your dress.” You looked up at the man who spoke, his piercing red eyes clear behind his owl mask despite the wine being served. You hadn’t realised he’d bumped into you, instead blaming the glass for somehow being sentient.

“It’s quite alright. I wasn’t really fond of the dress anyways.” The man grimaces as he estimates the cost of the dress, his scarlet ponytail swishing to the side.

“Don’t worry, I’m not much for dresses and riches. My family is well off to have several of these dresses ruined and not a percent of their coffers wasted.”

The man raised his brows, perturbed by your nonchalance to the wealth. Clearing your throat, you took a good look at him. He looked to be of nobility with his crisp suit and star studded mask. The owl plumes gracefully framed his face, the red stones standing out and bringing his sharp gaze to attention. Your hands itched to remove the cover, to see the man beneath.

You had to admit he was rather handsome, even with the mask on. Your palms suddenly turned clammy and your mind kept drifting to the ugly wine stain on your dress. Feeling self conscious, you asked him something before he had the chance to open his mouth, “Have you seen Diluc Ragnvindr by any chance tonight? I’ve been meaning to thank him for the invitation he sent.”

The question had clearly thrown him off, his mouth opening and closing like a fish on land. Puzzled, you thanked him for his handkerchief and went your way. Looking back, you realise you didn’t even know his name. Cursing your foolishness, you wondered if you’d ever come across the handsome stranger again. Without the mask, preferably.

A few days had passed since the ball at the Dawn Winery. Not wanting to stay in the sticky ballgown for the entire night, you had made an excuse to Adelinde before departing. You didn’t catch hold of Diluc after that and shrugged away the thought. That was before your maid brought a pretty little package to your room. You asked who it was from and she handed you a note.

You opened the wrapped box, dumbfounded to find a gown of the lightest purple, studded with pearls around the bodice. The sleeves were long but gauzy, loose and flowy around the wrist. It would have cost a disgusting amount of mora, but somehow you did not mind the price this time.

You quickly turned over the envelope, ripping open the cover and reading the elegant handwriting.

Dear y/n,

I apologise for spilling wine on your dress and ruining it during my birthday ball. The crimson colour rather dulled your appearance, I wouldn’t say I’m really sorry. I hope this colour suits you better, I had to ask Adelinde what would look good on you. Visit Angel’s Share anytime and ask for me. I look forward to meeting you again and talking.
