Friends with Benefits || Part Ten - The First Part of Forever
"are you busy?" colby text you one afternoon.
"not at the moment. i just left for my lunch break." you replied. as soon as it was marked read, he was calling you on facetime. "hi baby." you said with a smile when you answered.
"we miss you." he pouted, panning the camera to show lucas asleep on his chest. it was monday morning, and you had to go back to work after taking a few days off to spend with your boys.
"oh, stop. i will literally quit my job right now and come home." you joked.
"that's fine. daddy can support us, and you can be a stay at home mom." colby teased.
"you joke, as if i haven't heavily considered that." you laughed. truthfully, you loved your job, and the people you worked with, so you wouldn't actually ever leave. but you missed your boys so much every day, that it took all you had in you to not drop everything and rush home.
the first few years of parenthood had been better than you expected them. lucas was such a great kid, and already so incredibly smart. you just celebrated his fourth birthday, and you couldn't believe how fast he was growing up, but you loved getting to watch him grow every day.
you talked with colby throughout your entire lunch break, and a little bit after you got back to work. the rest of the day went by so slow, and all you wanted was to get home. once you left work, you drove home as fast you could. you let out a sigh of relief as you pulled into the driveway, glad to finally be home. you gathered your bags and went inside, kicking your shoes off by the door.
"mommy!" a tiny voice cheered as you walked into the kitchen.
"hello my baby!" you cheered as lucas jumped into your arms. you held him tight and pressed a kiss to his cheeks. "i missed you today." you said, kissing him again.
"me and daddy missed you too." he said softly. just then, colby came into the kitchen, saying hello and giving you a quick kiss.
"it's true." he laughed, moving to sit at the island. "lucas, you wanna tell mommy what happened today?" colby asked him. lucas turned his attention to you, giving a big smile. what was once a large toothy grin now had a noticable gap in the front. you felt your eyes widen, gasping loudly.
"i lost a tooth!" he cheered, kicking in your arms.
"your first tooth!" you cheered along with him. "make sure you put it under your pillow tonight so the tooth fairy can find it." you said, kissing his cheek again. he squirmed out of your arms and you heard him run off to his room. you turned to colby as a pout pulled on your lip. "his first tooth." you whined.
"i know." he said, pulling you into his lap. "fell out literally as soon as you and i hung up earlier." he laughed.
"i can't believe i missed it." you sighed. you draped your arm around colby's neck, leaning into his chest. you felt the stress from your day finally melt away, finding solace and comfort in colby's arms. you both sat there quietly, enjoying the peace, until lucas came running back into the kitchen.
"daddy, i'm hungry." he pouted, leaning into colby's side.
"i know, bud. our pizza should be here soon." colby said to him.
"okay!" he said before wandering off. you heard him turn on the tv in the living room, laughing as the theme song played to his favorite cartoon. you stood from colby's lap and he shortly followed suit, rising from his chair.
"i'm gonna go change before dinner gets here." you said, pressing a kiss to his lips before grabbing your things and heading upstairs. you changed into some lounge clothes and met the boys in the dining room where colby was making everyone plates. you sat down at the table as colby placed a plate in front of you. the three of you enjoyed your meal, making conversation.
after dinner, the three of you lounged in the living room, lucas' cartoon still playing on the tv. you and colby were snuggled up on the couch, and lucas was on the floor, playing with some his toys. you watched him with stars in your eyes, still beside yourself that this was your kid, and that he was growing up so fast.
you loved him with your whole heart, and would do anything to protect him from whatever bad things were thrown his way. you had a good feeling that he was going to grow up to be wonderful young man, and you couldn't wait to experience it all.
after a while, lucas was done playing, and had crawled onto the couch, nuzzling himself in between you and colby. he quickly fell asleep, breathing quietly beneath you. after a while, you moved slowly to carry him up to bed, being extra careful as to not wake him up. you laid him in his bed and tucked him in, wishing him a good night. you stood there watching him sleep before colby's voice sounded in your ear, scaring you.
"so, how much is the tooth fairy gonna leave him?" he asked, pulling wad of cash out of his pocket. "all i have is twenties."
"cole, we are not giving our four-year-old a twenty dollar bill for a single tooth."
"ooh, not the real first name. that hurts." he laughed, placing his hand over his heart, feining offense. you rolled your eyes and walked off to your bedroom.
"he can have one dollar." you asserted, grabbing some change from your dresser. you went back to lucas' room, carefully removing the tooth from underneath his pillow and placing the stack of quarters on his nightstand.
"i can't believe he's already lost his first tooth." you pouted again, suddenly feeling the tears well in your eyes.
"i feel like this is all happening so fast, but i can't wait to continue to watch him grow. he's gonna have so many incredible experiences, and i can't wat for us to be there to see them all." colby said as you walked back down to your bedroom. you stood at the foot of your bed, stumbling a bit as colby suddenly pulled you into his arms. he kissed you softly, and held you tight.
"i love you." you said, kissing him again.
"i love you more." he said, lips barely moving from yours. you quickly deepened the kiss, as colby's arms wrapped tighter around your waist. he lifted you slightly off the ground, and you followed his cue, wrapping your legs around him.
he carried you the few steps to the edge of the bed, laying you down beneath him. his lips pressed along the inches of your skin, down your neck, across your chest, in between your breasts, and down your stomach.
"let's make another one." he said out of breath, before pressing his lips met yours again. you pulled his face away and locked eyes with him, smiling wide before nodding.
"lock the door." you smirked.
“mmm, yes ma’am.” he said, his lips brushing yours as he moved to the bedroom door, quickly flipping the lock.
sex with colby never failed to satisfy you, and knowing that you had him all to yourself made it all the more perfect. after you finished that night, you cuddled for a bit, the two of you laying in a perfect silence as you both drifted off to sleep.
this was your forever; it was by no means perfect, but it was exactly what you wanted. your wonderful husband, your wonderful son, and your wonderful life. it was perfect to you, and you wouldn’t change it for the world.

Friends with Benefits || Part Nine - The Wedding
"i dont want to leave him." you pouted.
"y/n, he's going to be fine. we're leaving him in capable hands." colby said, squeezing your shoulders. you were dropping lucas off with your parents for the afternoon, so you and colby could have some time with yourselves. you'd been cooped up in the house for the last month and a half, and you knew you would benefit from an afternoon out. but you'd grown so used to having lucas in your arms, you couldn't stomach the thought of not having him near you. of course, you knew your parents could handle watching him, but you were still hesitant to leave him.
"c'mon sweetie. lets go before your mama changes her mind." your mom said, taking lucas from your arms. you held your grip as long as you could before your mom was out of reach and colby was holding you too tight for you to move. you watched as she took him into the living room and sat on the couch with him.
"thank you gramma!" colby called from the foyer, pulling you out of the front door and back down the drive way, against much of your protesting.
"i feel empty." you sighed.
"baby." colby said softly. he placed his hands on your hips, pulling you into his chest. your arms snaked around his waist and you held him tight, silence falling over the two of you as you stood in the driveway. you felt a small tear fall down your cheek, quickly wiping it away.
"alright, let's get out of here before i break down my mom's front door." you laughed, pulling away from colby. you reached up and pressed a kiss to his lips before walking over to your side of the car.
the afternoon ended up being wonderful, you and colby getting to enjoy some much needed alone time. much more needed than you ever thought. you hadn't had this much fun with colby since you'd gotten pregnant, as your baby became your priority.
you went out to lunch, and walked around downtown for a bit afterwards. you found yourselves at an outdoor mall, and did a bit of shopping while enjoying the fresh air.
once you finished up your shopping, you and colby drove around for a bit before you ended up at one of the overlook spots on mulholland. you got out and took in the view of the city, leaning against the hood of colby's car.
"god, i haven't been up here in forever." you said with a smile, colby taking his spot next to you.
"i know. we used to come here all the time, remember? whenever either of us needed a break from life, and didn't want to come alone." colby said, and you felt his lips press against the top of your head.
"i do remember." you smiled, meeting his gaze. "then we started having sex, which, admittedly, felt a lot better than coming up here." you teased.
"i don't disagree." colby laughed. his arm draped around your shoulder, and he held you tight. you enjoyed the silence for a while, comfortable in each other's company as you enjoyed the sight of the city below you.
"remember when you told me i couldn't propose to you when we found out you were pregnant? because we weren't dating?" he asked abruptly.
"yeah?" you said, heart beginning to pound in your chest.
"every day since then, all i've wanted to do was to ask you to marry me. but i settled for asking you to be my girlfriend, since i knew that was what you wanted. and i was okay with it at first, especially since we were going through so much with lucas. but im ready for a new change."
"colby," you took a deep breath, watching as he knelt to the ground in front of you. you noticed a tiny velvet box perched in his hands, a beautiful diamond ring situated in the middle.
"y/n l/n, i love you more than i can ever put into words. i know our relationship has been the furthest thing from normal, but that's what i love about us. i want to spend the rest of my life with you, in every way possible. i want to continue to grow our family and share our love with each other every single day. will you marry me?"
you heart was pounding so hard in your chest, you could feel it in your head. the butterflies in your stomach were a swarm, and you were sobbing mess at this point. there were a million thoughts running around your mind, but you were absolutely certain about one thing.
"yes! yes, i'll marry you!" you said through tears. you watched as colby relaxed his shoulders and a wide smile spread across his face. he slipped the ring on your finger and stood in front of you. you pulled him close and pressed a hard kiss to your lips.
all of your dreams were finally starting to come true, and you couldn't have imagined them with anyone other than colby. sure, your relationship wasn't the most conventional, and your timeline was definitely all over the place. but the love you shared for each other was genuine, and it grew more and more each day. you loved colby so much, and you couldn't wait to spend the rest of your lives together.
over the course of just over a year, wedding planning had been as good as you could have expected. sure, there were some road blocks when it came to the venues, and caterers, and who you wanted to invite. but once you finally decided on a hall, and a date, everything else seemed to fall perfectly into place.
"this has got to be some sort of good luck. everything else we've looked at has been booked out for a zillion years, but we just happened to find a place that had an opening the same weekend we wanted, and has a DJ, an in house chef, and a partnership with a florist? i must be dreaming." you let out a sigh of relief as you checked off items from your to do list.
“im glad this suddenly became so easy. things felt very bleak there for a while.” colby said, moving to stand next to you.
“ugh, i know.” you sighed. you turned to face him and wrapped your arms around his waist. “i cant wait to marry you.” you reached up and pressed a kiss to his lips. “knowing that im gonna get to see you, my dream man, at the end of the aisle, makes all the stress worth it.”
“i love you.” colby said softly, pressing another kiss to your lips.
as your wedding day quickly approached, the morning was going as smoothly as you’d hoped it would. your guests were beginning to arrive, and you and your bridesmaids were in the dressing room getting ready. you finished getting your hair and makeup done, and were finally able to step into your wedding dress. once you were done up, you gave yourself a once over in the mirror before. you looked beautiful, and it took all you had in you to prevent the tears from falling and ruining your makeup. you were over the moon that you were going to be marrying your best friend in just a few minutes.
you stepped back out into the dressing room, your bridesmaids fawning over you. you were showered in compliments and everyone began snapping pictures of and with you.
“okay, before we get started, i want to make a toast,” you began, refilling everyone’s champagne flutes. “i just want to thank you all for being here and celebrating with me. it means the world to me, and colby as well, that youre all here with us. i love you all so much.” you said, raising your glass. you all clinked them together, a mumbled, but excited, “cheers” filled the room as you all finished off the champagne.
you all took your places in the line for the ceremony to begin. you stood at the end of the line, your parents on either side of you with their arms locked in yours.
“you nervous?” your dad asked softly.
“a bit.” you said, taking a deep breath.
“for what its worth, so is colby. but i know as soon as you see each other, all the nerves will go out the window. you two are perfect for each other, and its about time you’re getting married.” he said to you. you smiled up at him and took your place at the door.
the music began and the doors opened, revealing the beautifully decorated hall with all the flower arrangements you and colby spent so long on deciding. your eyes flashed across the room, mentally thanking every single one of your guests for being there with you. your glance finally fell upon colby, standing at the end of the aisle. he looked so handsome in his tux.
you felt your heart grow in your chest as he stood there smiling, a small glimmer of tears as they welled in his eyes. you couldnt believe this was finally happening. the man of your dreams, the most wonderful father to your child, about to become your husband.
you finally reached the end of the aisle, placing your hands in colby’s as he took you the rest of the way. you passrd your bouquet to your maid of honor, and took colby’s other hand in your now free one.
“hi.” he said softly, giving you a once over. “you look so beautiful.”
“thank you. so do you.” you smiled. you glanced across your guests, eyes landing on lucas in the front row, sitting in lesa's lap. you gave him a small wave, and he waved back at you, the cutest smile plastered across his face.
your ceremony began, and you and colby exchanged your vows. the ceremony was beautiful, and you were elated to share your first kiss as husband and wife.
"i love you so much." colby said, voice muffled by his lips pressed against yours.
"i love you so much." you repeated, giggling as colby pulled you further into his chest to deepen the kiss. you were surrounded by cheers as you kissed, everyone sharing in the love you two had for each other.
following your ceremony, you and colby stayed behind to take pictures with each other, your family, and your wedding party. you then made your way over to the room your reception was being held. as the night began, dinner was served, and you started to make your way through your dances. you watched as colby and his mom shared danced around the floor, lucas sitting attentively in your lap. he was enthralled with all the lights and decorations, and was being so good the whole night. once it was time for your father/daughter dance, colby took lucas from you and sat with him at your table. your dance proved to be very emotional, your dad telling you how proud he was of you, and how much of a wonderful mother you were proving to be.
"not that i doubted you would be. you've always been so nuturing, so it's fitting that you've continued to do so with your son."
"i love you, daddy." you said softly, resting your head on his shoulder.
"i love you too, sweetheart." he said, pressing a kiss to the top of your head. you spun around one final time as the song ended, and your dad twirled you into colby's arms, as the song you'd chosen for your first dance began to play. lucas was sitting on colby's hip, and the three of you began to sway to the beat of the music.
"can you believe this is our life?" you asked colby.
"not even a little a bit." he laughed. "do you have any regrets?" he asked.
"not one. do you?" you asked him.
"a very small one." he began, laughing when he noticed your puzzled expression. "just that i regret not comitting sooner. granted, that may not have brought us lucas, but i wish we could've experienced all the giddy parts of starting a relationship. the first dates, and the awkwardness of transitioning from friends to dating. we never really had the chance to be boyfriend/girlfriend, and get to date. we had to make a pretty big change to go straight from friends to parents."
"yeah, that's true. these have been very big adjustments we had to make, but i'm glad we got to make them together." you said, and colby nodded. "for what it's worth, i still get giddy when i see you. seeing you with lucas every day, you are so good with him, and seeing the light and love on your face every time you look at him. i think i'll forever get butterflies at the sight." the hall was dark, but you were certain you saw colby's face flush pink. he truly was the most beautiful man you'd ever met, and getting to spend your life with him was like your wildest dream come true.
the rest of your reception was wonderful, and everyone was having a great time. you loved spending this time with all of your loved ones, and you were grateful that they were all there to celebrate with you and colby.
once the night ended, most everyone had already left, and you and colby were the last ones out of the hall. with his diaper bag slung over your shoulder, lucas was asleep in your arms, resting on your chest.
"you ready to go?" you called to colby, waiting for him at the door. he nodded, and jogged to catch up to you. he wrapped his hand around yours and you walked out to finish loading up the car. you climbed into the passenger seat after putting lucas in his seat. colby held your hand as he pulled out of the parking lot of the venue, the three you driving off to start the next chapter of your lives; the beginning of your forever.

Friends with Benefits || Part Eight - The First Few Months
"colby, honey, could you grab me another towel!" you called from the bathroom.
"yes, yes! just a sec." you heard him call back from the nursery. lucas unfortunately just had a huge blow out, and you immediately put him in the bath. colby quickly arrived in the bathroom, another towel in hand.
"thank you, sweet. someone decided he was going to pull his nice clean towel into the bath with him, so now it's soaked." you teased, shooting a look at lucas. he recognized your unserious expression and immediately started cackling. "don't you laugh at me, mister!" you jokingly scolded him, poking his belly. he started laughing louder, your heart swelling at the sound.
"i don't think i can ever punish him. he's too cute." you pouted at colby.
"he shit on your pants." colby said, pointing to your thigh and stifling a laugh.
"what else is new?" you shrugged. you finished lucas' bath, and colby took him to get dressed, allowing you to take a shower yourself. once you were done, and changed, you put a small load of laundry on before meeting the boys in the living room. colby was feeding him on the couch, and you sat down next to them, resting your head on colby's shoulder.
these last few months were a huge adjustment, but you and colby were making it happen. you fell into a quick routine that was comfortable for the both of you. it was lucky that you and colby were both able to take these first few months to focus on the baby and setting your routine, because you knew it was going to be much harder if either of you was having to go through it alone.
but lucas had been such a good baby. he ate and slept well, and he hadn't really kept you up all that much. he cried very infrequently, but when he did, he wailed. fortunately, you learned quickly that was only the case when he needed a clean diaper, and were alway quick to change him.
most of your nights were spent at home, with the exception of doctors appointments. you had friends coming over periodically, to see the baby and check on you and colby, which was always nice. the first night sam came over, it started out like any normal night, but ended up being quite emotional.
"god, i can't believe he's real. i had a hard time believing this when you first told me y/n was pregnant. but holding him here, he feels like a little doll." sam breathed out a laugh, lucas resting comfortably in his arms.
"yeah, we felt that when we first brought him home. but after about the zillionth diaper, the realness set in." colby laughed.
"this is definitely TMI, but i think the realness set in for me the first time he bit my nipple. that was unpleasant." you said, walking over to sam and handing him a bottle. sam began feeding him, and lucas quickly took the bottle into his mouth. "he's very attached."
"he gets that from me." colby teased, pulling you into the couch with him.
"okay, i know this is your house, but i'm right here." sam said, feigning nausea.
"sorry. our filters are broken, given the exhaustion." you laughed along with colby. sam just shook his head, turning his attention back to lucas in his arms.
"i hope you show a bit more discretion than your parents." sam said to him. just then, you heard a small toot. "awe, c'mon dude." sam laughed. you all sat there silently as sam continued feeding lucas, and were suddenly overcome with emotion.
"i am so proud of you both. i know your relationship did not get off to the most normal start, and you had some shocking changes to it. but you stepped up and made it work. you've got such a great kid here and i know you're going to continue to raise him into a wonderful human."
"sam." you said with a pout, fighting tears.
"i mean it! especially with you." he said, turning his attention to colby. "we've grown up together, and getting to see my best friend grow into a father is amazing. i can't wait to watch you become the great dad you're destined to be. i konw you'ce always wanted a family, and i'm so glad that i get to be here with you while you're starting it."
"i love you, man." colby said to him. you got up to take lucas from sam, and stood back as he and colby shared a tight hug. you were so glad that sam was as supportive towards colby as he'd always been. and you were glad that he'd become such a great friend to you as well. you knew he was going to be a great uncle to your baby, and lucas was going to be so lucky to have sam by his side.

Friends with Benefits || Part Seven - The Arrival
the last few weeks of your pregnancy were the hardest, but you pushed through. colby and sam had already worked to reschedule some of their work trips around your pregnancy, to ensure that he would be here for your delivery. fortunately, the few that couldn't be changed were short ones, and he didn't end up missing things. unfortunately, to sam's dismay, colby was preoccupied with you and your wellbeing while on these trips, and you kept having to remind him that you were fine and he should focus on work.
as you got closer to your due date, you were increasingly on edge. you had no idea when your son was gonna decide to come, so you'd spent most of your days at home, as to avoid your water breaking while in public. colby was at your beck and call, helping you with anything you could possibly need or want. truthfully, you felt like a bit of a burden, but colby kept reminding you that you were carrying his child, and no deed he ever did for you would match the weight of what you were doing for him.
"y/n, you are carrying a baby. anything i do for you will forever pale in comparison to this."
"you're too much." you laughed, as brought you another glass of water. you were hanging out at home one night, having ordered dinner in. you'd just finished eating, and you and colby were lounging on the couch with a movie.
colby left the living room and you got up to refill your glass of water. you waddled to the kitchen and suddenly felt a sharp pang in your abdomen.
“oooooh.” you groaned, gritting your teeth. you breathed your way through it, knowing it was a contraction, and it slowly dissipated. you caught your breath, moving slowly as to not trigger another contraction.
“colby!” you called out, hoping you were still in his ear shot.
“what? what’s wrong?” he asked, immediately at your side.
“i think its time.” you said, another contraction coursing through you. colby went through your breathing exercises with you as it passed. just then, you felt wetness pooling near your feet, your water having broke.
“alright, let me grab our bags and get you to the hospital.” colby said frantically. you just nodded, too dizzy to speak. you stood by the door, focusing on breathing while colby gathered your things. he set your slippers on the floor and helped you step into them before helping you out to the car. he drove as fast as he could to get to the hospital, which luckily wasn’t too far.
once you got to the hospital, you were quickly taken to a room. the hours passed slowly as you waited around to be fully dilated. you were growing increasingly impatient by the second, wanting to do anything other than sit around and munch on ice chips.
your doctor and nurses were in and out of the room, checking on you, making sure you and the baby were continuing to do well. then finally, your doctor spoke the magic words that you’d been waiting to hear all day.
“it’s time to start pushing!”
the moments that followed were a blur of screaming, pushing, and the worst pain youd ever felt. but it was all worth it when your doctor finally had your baby in their hands.
“he’s here!” they sang, moving to place him on your chest. you, him, and colby sharing the same tears; yours of relief, colby’s of joy, and your son’s likely terror of a new world.
“he's perfect.” you said quietly, colby pressing a kiss to your forehead in agreement. you shared a brief moment of serenity before your baby was whisked off to the nursery and get cleaned and checked up. you and colby were moved to a recovery room and you finally felt yourself start to relax.
the rest of the day was busy and your nurses were bringing your baby in and out of the room for feedings visits. you and colby had updated your families of the news, sharing a picture of him to your respective group chats. your messages were simple “he’s here, he’s healthy, and mommy is very tired” in an attempt to stave off your families visiting.
the first night was spent getting as much one on one time with your son, you and colby trading off who was holding him every half hour. you were also taking in the time you had when baby was in the nursery to catch up sleep. it had been an extremely long day, and you were exhausted.
the next day, you were a bit more rested. you’d been able to take a shower and were feeling refreshed. you came back into your room, colby sitting in the large recliner with your son in his arms. you watched as the cooed at each other, a genuine look of love and adoration in colby’s eyes looking down at his son. you savored the view, in love with the thought that you were going to get to spend the rest of your life with these two. he was only a day old, but your son was already your most favorite boy on the planet. colby was now a close second.
you moved to the side of the chair, sitting on the arm next to colby. you wrapped your arm around his shoulder and rested your head on top of his.
“i cant believe this is real life.” colby said quietly. “we have a kid.” he added, looking up at you with wide eyes.
"i know." you said softly, rubbing your thumb across your baby's forehead. "i can't believe how small he is. i feel like i was carrying a cinder block on here." you laughed, rubbing your belly. you had a bit of your bump left, and you couldn't believe that you were missing it already. you'd grown so used to the closeness, but you were happy that your baby was here and healthy.
you slept intermittently that night, waking up every few hours for feedings and changing your baby. it was tiring, but it was worth it.
the next morning, you were finally up and ready for visitors. yours and colby parent's were the first to arrive, soaking up all the time they could get with their new grandbaby. they were already so obsessed with him, and you could already tell in their eyes that they were going to spoil him to his core.
"so," colby's mom said to you both, "did we decide on a name for him?" she asked. you and colby exchanged glances and smiled at each other.
"his name is lucas cole. cole, obviously being colby’s name, and lucas being the only names we didn’t argue over.” you joked.
"oh, that's perfect." lesa said with a smile, eyes welling with tears as she turned her attention back to the baby. "he's perfect."
"i think we're all in agreement there." colby laughed.
everyone took turns holding lucas, all of the marveling at him. your parents, as well as colby's, had been over the moon your entire pregnancy, and they couldn't wait to meet your little one. now that he was here, they were already obsessed with him. as were you and colby.
after a few hours, your parent left and you were sitting quietly in your bed. colby was asleep on the couch across the room from you, and you'd just finished feeding lucas. you were holding him delicately in your arms, and he was wide eyed, staring up at you. you studied his features closely, struck by how he was a perfect mix of both you and colby. he had the same bright blue eyes and dark hair as colby. but the remainder of his facial features were yours. of course, he was only two days old and you couldn't tell yet who he was going to look more like as he grew up. but you knew he was going to be beautiful either way.

Friends with Benefits || Part Six - The Scare
"y/n, i cannot believe you are still coming to work." your friend said to you as you were returning to your office after your lunch break.
"i used up so much of my PTO at christmas, i'm trying to accumulate some more so i can have some extra time for my maternity leave." you laughed as you sat back down at your desk.
"you're better than me. i would've been out of here as soon i could." they laughed. they returned to their desk, and you got back to work.
a few hours passed, and you were making your way through the day like normal. returning emails, making phone calls to clients, putting out fires in the department you oversaw. everything was going as well as you would've expected. until it wasn't.
all of a sudden, you felt the beginning of a contraction.
"oh no, mister man. it is too early for you to be coming." you groaned through gritted teeth. you coaxed yourself through the contraction, and is passed after about a minute. you went on about your day for another few hours, before you felt the pain return. you paced your office, which seemed to help contraction go away. after about the third or fourth occurrence, you figured you needed to call your doctor.
"i'd recommend you come in and be seen. i have an open appointment in twenty that you can take." your doctor said to you over the phone.
"perfect. i will be there." you said to them. you luckily were able to get a ride from a friend, and your doctor's office was only a few blocks from your job. you text colby while you were on your way, and let him know what was going on.
"i'm sure they're just braxton hicks, but my doctor just wants me to come in for some monitoring for a little bit. i'm on my way to the hospital now." your message read.
"i will be there as soon as i can." he replied. you pulled into the hospital parking lot, thanking your friend for the ride. you checked in and were immediately taken to a room. you waited just a few minutes before your doctor came in, explaining that they wanted to monitor your vitals, as well as your baby's.
after about twenty minutes, there was a knock on the door. you called for them to come in, and colby fell through the door.
"y/n! is everything okay?" he sighed, falling to the floor next to your bed.
"yes. everything is okay." you said, brushing his hair back from his forehead. "geez, did you run over here?" you teased, wiping his sweat from your hand.
"practically." he laughed awkwardly. just then, your doctor came back into the room.
"alright you two, or should i say three," they paused to take a seat. "everything is still as great as your last check up. baby boy is just getting a little impatient in there."
"are we at the point of bed rest yet?” you asked.
"not quite. i do recommend taking it easy, so you're not overly stressed. but not complete bed rest." they advised.
"okay. i can do that. work isn't too busy at the moment, so fingers crossed it stays that way." you said, rubbing your belly.
"perfect. let's get you set up to head home." your doctor said to you. you collected all of your things, got your discharge paperwork, and headed home. fortunately, your work day was almost done, so you didn't miss to much of your day.
you were in contact with your boss as soon as you got home to work out a plan for a lighter work load, and potentially starting your maternity leave sooner. they were fortunately very accommodating for your needs, it was lucky that you had such a good relationship with them.
once you got back to work, you were mainly working half days for the last month and a half leading up to your maternity leave. on your last day of work, your coworkers threw you a small baby shower for your last day.
“i cannot believe you all did this for me. this is all too much.” you said through tears, as you continued opening your gifts.
“you deserve it! we love you and we cant wait to meet your little one. we wish you and colby luck, and are sending you all the congratulations in the world.” one of them said to you.
“did i hear my name?” you heard a familiar voice ask. you turned and saw colby walking into the conference room where your festivities were being held.
“what are you doing here!?” you asked gleefully, getting up to walk greet him. you gave him a hug and pressed a quick to his lips.
“oh, you know i never miss a good party.” he teased. “no, f/n text me and told me you were gonna need some help carrying things to the car.” he said.
as the shower was winding down, colby began taking things to the car, meticulously packing everything as to not damage any of the gifts. you thanked your friends again, gathering up the leftover food to take home. you made your way out to the parking garage to meet colby, walking with a few of your friends, the ones that actually planned the event. you thanked them profusely again for the shower, and for all the gifts.
once you got home, you helped colby as much as you could with helping bringing in the gifts. once they were all inside, you began to unpack and clean up, placing them around your home in the places where they would be most used. you had so many blankets, clothes, toys and bottles. your baby was going to be well outfitted for his best life.
you stood in his nursery, which was finally all put together. colby had spent numerous hours in this room, putting together the crib, the dresser, and all the other furniture. he’d arranged it wonderfully, and you couldn’t believe how much this room had changed from your boring guest room. you stood there lost in thought for a while, before they were interrupted by colby’s voice.
“hey, there you are. you okay?” he asked, wiping away a stray tear from your cheek.
“yeah,” you said softly. “now that im out of work, it’s really starting to set in. in a few weeks, we’re gonna have a baby.” you said, rubbing your belly.
“i still can’t wrap my mind around it. seeing you grow every day has been so mind blowing, and seeing how big he’s gotten on his ultrasounds. it’s been kinda crazy.” colby laughed, placing his hand on yours on your belly. “but im excited.”
“me too.” you said, smiling up at him. he kissed you softly before leaning down to press a kiss to your belly. you couldn’t believe you were coming up on the end of your pregnancy, but you really were excited. especially knowing that you had colby on your side. you made a great team, and you knew you were gonna raise a wonderful kid.

Friends with Benefits || Part Five - The Shower
throughout your second trimester, you began showing more and more, your symptoms were worsening. as bad as you felt on most days, getting to see your baby on your ultrasound pictures made it all worth it.
you were past the point of being scared of becoming parents, and finally made it to the point where you were excited. hearing and seeing your baby on the ultrasound screen every week made you so excited and so happy. you couldn't wait to finally meet your little one.
your doctor was already able to tell the sex of your baby, but both your mom and colby's mom wanted to have a sex reveal party along with your baby shower. so you and colby promised that you wouldn't ask until then. your doctor respected your wishes, and provided the sex to your moms so they could work on your party.
the weeks passed, the planning was done, and it was finally time for your baby shower. you were in your room getting ready, rummaging through your closet, trying to pick something to wear.
"god, i hate everything i have." you groaned, taking off another dress.
"y/n? you in here?" you heard colby call from out in the bedroom.
"in the closet!" you called back. you stood there in your underwear, continuing to flit through your clothes.
"you okay?" he asked, leaning against the door frame.
"i cant figure out what to wear." you sighed, letting your shoulders fall.
"i don't mean to overstep, but i figured you'd say that." he said, stepping into the closet. he looked through his side of the closet, pulling out a freshly pressed green maxi dress.
"oh my god, this is beautiful! when did you get this?" you asked, taking it from the hanger.
"a few days ago. i overheard you talking to your mom about having trouble deciding on what to wear, so i went out and bought you someting new." he said with a smile.
"colby, this is beautiful. thank you, baby." you said with a smile, reaching up to press a kiss to his lips. you put the dressed on, fixed your hair, and stood in the mirror.
"perfect." colby said, pressing a kiss to your temple. you both finished getting ready, grabbed your things, and headed to the venue.
as you arrived, you were immediately met with friends and family who had already arrived.
"mom, lesa, this is beautiful. i can't thank you both for putting this all together." you said as you finally found your way to them, embracing your mom in a tight hug.
"oh, honey, you are so welcome! we had so much fun putting this all together." your mom said.
"mom, this was so nice of you." colby said to his mom, as he gave her a hug.
"anything for you, baby. both of you. i can't wait to meet your little one." lesa said, moving to hug you, rubbing your belly. "now go on, mingle, enjoy yourselves."
the day was so wonderful, getting to celebrate with all your favorite people. you played fun games, ate amazing food, and cried over the great gifts that everyone brought you.
after a while, your mom and lesa announced that it was time for the big surprise. you and colby took your spots at the front of the crowd, a small cake sitting on the table in front of you.
"oof, im nervous." you said to colby.
"so am i. but i'll be happy either way." colby said, kissing your cheek.
"alright, we've been taking votes all day for what everyone thinks. right now, the votes are tied between a boy and a girl." your mom said. she turned to you and smiled wide, "y/n, colby, are you ready?" she asked. you and colby exchanged a glance, and after sharing a brief moment, you both nodded.
you looked down at the cake in front of you, colby grabbing the knife next to it. you both grabbed onto the handle, cutting a slice from the edge. you took a deep breath before pulling out the slice. your eyes widened as you watched the slice fall onto the plate you held, revealing a blue cake on the inside.
your heart swelled at the sight, a sudden image of a baby boy with your hair color and colbys bright blue eyes flashing in your mind. you looked over at colby who was moving to pull you into a hug. you heard everyone around you cheering in excitement, but all you could focus on was colby.
“oh my god. its a boy!” you said softly as he hugged you.
“its a boy!” colby repeated, pressing a kiss to your cheek. “i cant believe it.” he said, wiping away the tears that had already fallen down your cheeks.
you were riding an emotional high the rest of the day, surrounded by all the love and celebration from your family and friends. once your shower was over, and all your gifts and other things were taken back to your home, you finally felt yourself start to relax.
you’d taken all the baby’s stuff to the nursey and set it all up, putting his toys into a basket, and put away all of the new clothes. you sat in the chair that already filled the corner of the room, taking in your surroundings. you rubbed your belly as you felt your son moving around, and began talking with him.
“hello in there, my little one. today has been so full of excitement, cause your daddy and i found out youre a little baby boy. we are so thrilled to meet you and cant wait to hold you in our arms. you have already changed my life so much, and im so excited to watch your grow up into the wonderful person i know you’ll be. whatever life has in store for you, and whatever path life leads you down, i promise that daddy and i will be there for you. no matter what, you will always be our baby.” you said softly. you pressed a kiss to your fingers and rubbed your belly again, in an area that his face had been your past couple of ultrasounds.
just then, colby came into the nursery with you. he sat down on the floor in front of you, pressing a kiss to your belly before placing his hands on either side.
“crazy day, huh?” he said, looking up at you.
“the craziest. knowing the sex of the baby makes it all the more real.” you said, placing your hands on top of colby’s. “i hope he gets your eyes.” you said, brushing his hair back. you watched his face flush, giggling softly.
“i guess next step is picking out a name. i already have some thoughts.” he said, raising an eyebrow at you.
“we are not naming our son colby junior.” you said sternly.
“why not? i think it’s perfect.” colby joked. you just laughed and rolled your eyes.
“we’ll talk more tomorrow. for now, i just wanna go to sleep.” you laughed. colby helped you up from the chair and you waddled off to the bedroom. colby helped you through your nighttime routine, rubbing all your balms and lotions on your belly and helping you brush your hair. colby had been a saint throughout your entire pregnancy, and you were so grateful to have him around.
with as good of care he took of you while you were pregnant, you knew he was gonna take amazing care of your baby once he was born.

Friends with Benefits || Part Four - The Announcement
"y/n come on! they’re already waiting on us." colby called from the door.
"oh hush. i'm pregnant and am going to abuse the hell out of this card for as long as i can."
"yeah, you made that abundantly clear when you demanded i bring you a tub of ice cream last night."
"half of which you also ate, so don't give me that." you said, finally walking out into the living room. you and colby were on your way to take your anouncement photos. you agreed on the idea of a baby explorer, and the two of you were also dressed in xplr t-shirts.
you grabbed you purse and keys from the counter, finally ready to head out. you walked to the door, stopping in your tracks as colby didn't move.
"what? what's wrong?" you asked, looking up at him and noticing tears in his eyes.
"nothing, it's just," he took a deep breath to prevent himself from sobbing. "you're starting to show."
"oh, yeah!" you smiled, placing your hands under your belly. "that's your baby in there."
"our baby." he corrected, placing his hand above your belly button. you stood silently, allowing colby to take in the moment. "alright, let's get going." he said quietly, wiping his tears and following you out of the door.
you made your way to the park near your house where your photographer was meeting your for your shoot. fortunately, they'd just arrived, so you didnt feel bad about having kept them waiting.
you followed them to the spot they had picked out, amongst the trees that truly fit the exploration vibe you were going for. you were there for about an hour, and got some really amazing shots. once you were done, your photographer told you it would take a little bit for them you to edit the photos and send them to you. while you waited, you and colby went out for a bite to eat while you waited.
you both were beyond excited to finally share the news with your friends and extended family. you both had already shared with your parents, and they were all over the moon.
“y/n, you’re going to be a wonderful mother. you have such a nurturing and caring heart, i already know you’re going to spoil that baby with love.” your mom said to you over video chat.
“i get it from you.” you smiled.
“i can’t wait to come see you soon. until then, im gonna get started on planning your baby shower!” she cheered before you exchanged your goodbyes and hung up.
colby’s parents were just as excited to be getting their first grandbaby. they shared similar sentiments about their faith in you and colby being wonderful parents, and were overjoyed with the idea of having a new baby to spoil.
after sharing the news, you and colby were proud of yourselves for avoiding the topic of your relationship, and the truth of how you got to this point.
after your lunch, you and colby did a little bit of shopping before heading back home. upon your return, you checked your phone and saw your had a new email from your photographer; your announcement photos.
“ahh, they’re done!” you said, moving to sit with colby on the couch.
“open them, open them!” colby said excitedly as you tapped on the email notification.
you scrolled through the pictures, you on the verge of tears over how much you loved all the pictures. you and colby sat there forever, trying to decide on which ones to share. you ended up deciding on three pictures; one of the onesie lying in the ground with your ultrasound photo on top of it, one of you and colby holding the onesie between you and sharing a sweet smile, and the last one, a photo of you sitting on the ground with the onesie draped over your belly.
“there’s a new member coming soon to team xplr ✖️” you wrote for your caption. you hit post and set your phone down, taking a deep breath.
“and now we wait.” you said. after only a few minutes, both yours and colby’s phones began buzzing on the table. there were only a few people that knew about your pregnancy before this. your parents were the first to know, and of course colby immediately told sam. you both also shared with your siblings, but that was it. you wanted the news to be just yours for as long as you could keep it.
as more and more notifications came through, you snd colby finally began going through them. you checked your texts first, both of your extended families passing on their congratulations and well wishes. then, you took to instagram.
since moving to LA, most of your friends were also colby’s friends, ones that he’d made in the social media industry. you had friends of your own through your work too, but most everyone you knew, you’d met through colby. fortunately, they’d always been taken with you as an individual, and were friends with you for you, and not just who you knew.
you scrolled through the comments on your post, smiling at what everyone had to say.
yourphotographer: “congratulations again to you both! thank you so much for letting me be a part of this wonderful announcement!”
samgolbach: “so excited to have another member of xplr nation! you giys are gunna be great parents and i cant wait to be kiddo’s favorite uncle ♥️”
jakewebber9: “oh no way! this is so exciting!! congrats to you both!”
katrinastuartofficial: “@yourusername @colbybrock i cant believe THIS is how im finding out?? but im too excited to be angry! this is incredible, congratulations!”
yourbestfriend: “still so over the moon about this!! @yourusername youre going to be the most wonderful mama, im so happy and excited for you 💖”
kianlawley: “yes!! another baby on the way! i cant wait for coast and your little one to have playdates”
jccaylen: “this is crazy! congrats you two! we’re growing up so fast”
amberscholl: “oh my goodness, congratulations! i absolutely cannot wait to take you shopping for baby clothes and other goodies! ✨”
you continued reading all of the comments from your friends and other followers. youd gained quite a bit of a following for yourself since being attached to sam and colby, so your comments were also flooded with their fans sending you congratulations as well. you refreshed your notifications, watching a new comment pop up at the top.
colbybrock: “im so excited for us to be starting this journey with you. im also a bit scared and nervous, but i know with you by my side, we can accomplish anything. i love you. 🖤”
you smiled and pinned his comment to the top, typing an “i love you too” in response. as you watched more comments roll in, more and more people began to point out something else about you and colby.
“oh shit.” you said aloud.
“what?”
“not only did we announce our pregnancy, we also announced our relationship.” you laughed.
“oh shit, youre right.” colby said, staring at your dumbfounded. “ive been thinking so much about the baby, i hadn't even thought that we hadn't told anyone about us yet.” he laughed
“you didnt tell sam? i figured you wouldve text him as soon as we talked.” you teased.
“i dont tell him everything,” he paused and you raised a brow at him. “that fast, at least.” he blushed.
“well, now it’s out there. im just glad it’s been a mostly positive response.” you said, nuzzling into colby’s side. he wrapped an arm around you and squeezed you tight.
“me too.” he said, kissing the top of your head. the two of you spent the rest of the evening at home, relaxing, watching movies with your dinner, and relishing in the happiness and support you felt radiating around your announcement. you were ecstatic, happier than youd ever been in your life.

truth serum || c.b.
summary: after a few too many drinks, colby finally finds the courage to tell you the truth about his feelings for you.
colby had been crushing on you for as long as he could remember. pretty much from the moment he met you, he knew you were someone different. someone special. he was just way too nervous to ever tell you his true feelings.
you and him had become fast friends, after meeting a few times between other influence friends you had in LA. his move to vegas was hard on you both, as you'd become rather good friends in the years that you'd known each other. fortunately, vegas wasn't that far and he and sam were in LA pretty often for work.
"i can't believe you've already been gone for over a year." you said to colby over facetime.
"i know. it really doesn't feel like that though, considering how much sam and i have been back and forth to LA." he said.
"yeah, i guess that's true." you laughed. you and him talked for a little while before you both had to get back to some work.
a few weeks passed, and the next thing you knew, you were on your way to the airport to pick up sam and colby. they were returning from their most recent work trip, and had been staying in LA the last month or so, as they had a lot of business to take care of and people to meet.
"thanks again for coming to pick us up." colby said as he and sam began loading their things into your car.
"no worries!" you said with a smile. you drove them to their airbnb, and helped them get settled. you hung out with them for a bit, deciding to head home as it got later. you said bye to the boys, and grabbed your purse and keys to leave.
"i'll walk you out." colby said, catching up to you in the kitchen. "thanks again for picking us up." he said awkwardly as you stood outside your car.
"yeah. it's no problem." you said, avoiding his gaze.

"so, are you doing anything this weekend?" he asked you.
"nope, i'm free. what's up?"
"sam and i have to make an appearance at a brand party this saturday. you wanna come with us?" he asked.
"sure. what time?" you asked.
"around eight or nine. i'll text you the details, but we'll come pick you up."
"sounds good." you said with a smile. you wished each other a good night and you got into your car, colby waving as you pulled out of the driveway.
the weekend quickly came, and you were at home getting ready to go out. colby had just text that he and sam were on their way to get you, and they arrived just as you finished getting ready. small chatter filled the car as you drove to the party.
once you arrived, you all quickly began mingling. fortunately, with the three of you all being in the social media space, you almost always saw people you knew at these parties. after a bit of mingling, you made your way to the kitchen to make yourself a drink. as you stood there mixing a number of liquids on your cup, someone you knew came up to you, saying hello and quickly making conversation. you'd only met this person a few times before, but you knew them enough to be comfortable having a conversation with them.
unknown to you, colby was standing at the opposite end of the kitchen, eyes glued to you. he had stars in eyes, swooning at the sight of you. he knew he wanted to be with you, but something about the thought of actually telling you that made him want to throw up. he tried to move, but his shoes felt like they were filled with cement. he had butterflies in his stomach, and his heart was racing in his chest.
it was as if everything else was melting away, and you stood in his line of vision, stars shining all around you. he heard harps playing as you smiled, your face was shining brighter than he'd ever seen it.
you were the most beautiful person he'd ever seen. and he was falling hard.
"if you're not gonna talk to her, at least stop staring. you look like a creep." sam said, interrupting colby's train of thought. he didn't even say anything, but his face flushed. he stood up straight once he saw you walking towards him.
"you okay? you look a little flustered?" you asked him, noticing the redness in his cheeks.
"just a little too much to drink probably." he said, throwing away his cup.
"we just got here?" you laughed. "did you and sam pregame without me?" you asked. colby just laughed and shook his head.
"no. i'm just feeling kinda out of it today." colby shrugged.
"you okay? do you need to talk about anything?" you asked, and colby shook his head again.
"not right now. i still need to wrap my head around what's going on before i start talking about it with other people."
“okay. well, you know where to find me.” you said before walking away.
as the night continued, colby didnt leave your side. you were practically connected at the hip, colby being there for you and getting you anything you may have needed. it weirded you out a little bit, but you appreciated it.
once the two of you had many many more drinks, colby was much less flustered and feeling more comfortable. after a while, you two ended up outside in the yard area of the place you were at, cozied up on a couch in the seating area that had been set up.
"so, are you ready to talk about whatever was bothering you earlier?" you asked him. he chugged the rest of his drink, and turned to look at you. his eyes were barely open, but he looked at you with deep and longing admiration.
"i like you. like, a lot." he said, gaze locked on yours.
"oh." your voice was soft, and your heart was racing.
"i dont want you weird you out. but i just want to be honest about my feelings. i've liked you for a long time, but have been too nervous to ever say anything about it." he let out a loud sigh and stared down at his shoes.
"mister take chances was too nervous to do something? that's not very on brand for you." you teased him. a smile spread across his face, and you poked his dimple. "i like you too." you admitted.
"really?" he perked up, looking back at you. you just nodded.
"i think i may have liked you before we knew each other. i'd known who you were before we met, just from seeing your videos. and i had a bit of a crush. i thought you were to handsome, and so funny. but when he met, and became friends, i pushed those feelings aside as to not come on too strong and scare you away. i guess had we just been straight up about our feelings, we could've gotten over this a long time ago." you laughed.
"well damn." he huffed a laugh before looking back up at you. you moved closer to him, running your fingers through the hair at the nape of his neck. he rested his arm over your legs, thumb mindlessly rubbing the side of your knee. you locked eyes for a moment, before you noticed colby's gaze flick to your lips. you both slowly closed the gap between you, lips meeting each other for the first time.
as you kissed, you felt colby's hand move to your waist, pulling you deep into his side. he kissed you hard, each of you pulling away for the briefest of moments, just to catch your breath.
your mind was racing with a million thoughts and questions, but you couldn't bother with those at the moment. you kissed for what felt like hours, before you finally pulled away. you were so dizzy, your head felt like it was going to explode. colby's eyes met yours again as he pulled his bottom lip into his mouth.
"let's go inside." colby said, standing from the couch. he offered you his hand, and you took it. your fingers intertwined, and your hands fit perfectly with each other. he led you through the venue, finding a more private area, plopping down on a more comfortable couch away from the large room where majority of the partygoers were.
you quickly pulled him close, lips meeting his again. you felt him smile against your lips as his arms wrapped around tightly around your waist. he pulled away briefly, eyes analyzing your face.
"so," he paused and pressed a kiss to your cheek, "what do you say?" he kissed your other cheek. "can i be your boyfriend?" another kiss to your lips.
you placed your hands on his cheeks and held his face. you nodded and smiled sweetly. "i should say i so. i wouldn't make out with someone like this if they weren't." you teased, causing colby to laugh.
"good." he said, kissing you again. just then, someone came over to the area where you were hidden away.
"oh shit, sorry guys." they said awkwardly. you and colby just laughed, finally getting up from the couch. you made your way back to the party, mingling with the guests for just a little while longer before getting ready to leave. you, him, and sam rode back to your airbnb in silence, barely even speaking to each other. once you arrived back, sam finally perked up.
"you two disappeared for a while. what happened?" he asked, the three of you standing in the kitchen.
"we'll talk about it tomorrow." colby said, moving to walk you to the door.
"so, we have two options here. i can go home, and we can miss each other all night. or, i can go upstairs and spend the night with you." you said, taking colby's hands in yours.
"i think i like the second option." he said.
"me too." you nodded. you followed colby upstairs and he offered you a hoodie to sleep in. you changed out of your clothes and climbed into the bed with colby. his arms immediately found their place around your waist. he held you tight, resting his head on yours.
nothing happened that night other than the two of holding each other in your arms. that night was one of the best you'd ever slept. you were calm and comfortable in colby's arms, happy in knowing that you and him were finally taking this next step in your relationship.

Friends with Benefits || Part Three - The Adjustment
as soon as the words left your mouth, you felt like you wanted to throw up again.
Pregnant. your mind was a blank, almost as if you’d forgotten what the word meant. you had no emerging thoughts about where you were going to go from here.
“pregnant.” colby repeated, barely above a whisper. you watched as he sunk to his knee, taking your hand in his. “y/n, will you-“
“oh, nuh uh.” you interrupted. “you are not proposing to me right now.” you said, pulling him up from the floor.
“why not? we’re going to have a kid!”
“colby, we’re not even officially dating. i don’t expect you to propose to or marry me just because im having your baby.”
“you’re right, sorry. my head is just all over the place.” he sighed, sitting back down on the couch. you watched his face as the gears turned in his head. you were scared he was gonna bolt and leave you to make decisions on your own.
“tell me what you’re thinking.” you said quietly, moving to set next to him.
“a lot of things. scared of how this is gonna change us, worried that im gonna fuck this up. are we ready for this?” he asked.
"i don't know. i mean, ive always wanted kids, but this is not the way i wanted to go about that."
"me either." colby said, taking his hand in yours. "but im glad we're gonna be in this together. we've been in each other's lives for so long, at least we're not toal strangers."
"that's true." you sighed. you both sat there quietly before you spoke again. "so, where does this leave us?"
"we're still us. we're friends before anything, and we're a team in this. i'm gonna be here for you through everything." he said, squeezing your hand.
"thank you." you said softly, leaning into his side and hugging him tight. colby squeezed you tight and you felt him press a kiss to the top of your head.
"we got this." he said softly, giving you another squeeze.
the first trimester was a bit rough, as your routine began to change. your symptoms were already killing you. between the morning sickness, constant pain, and overall nervousness of this life changing event, you were already more tense than you'd ever been in your life.
you were at the doctor's office every week. but you were glad that you weren't doing this alone. colby made it a point to make every appointment with you. he made a promise to you that he was going to be there for you through every part of this pregnancy, and he was keeping good on his word. along with your appointments, he was going shopping with you to get all the necessities for the baby, helping put transform the guest room in your house into the nursery. you and him were researching and learning all the things you could about parenting.
you were still pretty nervous, really more nervous than you could ever explain. this feeling was probably going to last your entire pregnancy, but you were so glad that colby was doing this with you. you felt like you could accomplish anything with him by your side. but you couldn't help but worry that all you were ever going to be was co-parents, and nothing more. you knew you and colby had sort of an "agreement" about your relationship, but you were feeling like you wanted to be more. you were just too scared to bring it up to him, in case that was going to be too much to add to his plate. especially right now.
one afternoon, you'd just gotten home from a busy morning of some shopping and a quick trip to the drugstore for some more prenatal vitamins. you were resting on the couch, your hand falling into place on your belly. you still couldnt believe you were growing a human in there. as you sat there with your thoughts, pictures of your future child began to flash through your head. a baby boy with dark hair and blue eyes like colby, or a baby girl with soft hair and skin tone that beared a strinking resemblance to yours. you truly were so excited for this next part of your life, and you couldn't wait to raise your baby.
your thoughts were interrupted by your phone buzzing on the coffee table. you picked it up and saw a text from colby.
"are you home? i have something for you." he text you.
"yeah, i just got back. :)" you replied.
"perfect, see you in ten."
while you waited for colby to come over, you put up your purchases and changed into some more comfortable clothes. you were walking back into the living room just as you heard a knock on your door.
"hey!" colby said with a smile when you answered. he pulled you into a hug and pressed a kiss to your forehead.
"whatcha got?" you asked, pointing to the numerous bags in his hands.
"oh, i know better than to you come over without food." he laughed, handing you the food bags. "now, i don't know how your appetite has changed since getting pregnant, but i hope you still like, and can actually eat, chinese."
"oh yes, i will never turn away chinese." you said, taking the food from him. you got plates for the two of you and moved to the living room. you and colby sat down on the couch and set the food up on the coffee table.
"and what's this?" you asked, pointing to the gift bag he had.
"daddy's first gift for the baby." he said, his face lighting up as he started to open it. he pulled out a ball of fabric, unrolling it to reveal a onesie with a familiar logo on the front.
"oh my god! this is so cute!" you cheered, taking it from him.
"baby's first piece of xplr clothing."
"colby, this is adorable. this'll be their coming home outfit after they're born." you laughed.
"perfect, that was my intention." he laughed. the two of you sat down to eat, and conversation quickly ensued. after a while, you decided to take a more serious turn.
"so, my first trimester is up. i think it's time we start telling people." you said.
"yeah, i've been thinking about that these past couple days. but, i think we need to talk about our relationship first."
"oh?" you asked, sitting up and focusing entirely on him.
"i think we should be exclusive. y'know, boyfriend and girlfriend." he said, taking your hand in his.
"what? are you serious?"
"well, you wont let me propose, so," he trailed off, shrugging his shoulders. "y/n, i love you. i know i told you at the beginning of all of this, that i wasn't looking for a relationship. but i love you. i've loved you since the day i met you, but i was too scared to commit to relationship because i was at a place where a lot of girls were using me."
"you know i'd never do that to you." you said softly, rubbing your thumb across the back of his hand.
"i know, and i feel bad for ever thinking that of you. but i'm over that now. i want to be with you. fully and completely. we're gonna be starting a family, and i want us to be as commited to each other as we'll be to the baby. you don't have to say anything now, but i just wanted to put my feelings on the table, and be completely honest with you."
"i'm actually glad you said something because i've been thinking about us as well. you know ive always liked you, as more than a friend. and i've wanted to be exclusive with you. i didn't really want to be part of this "friends with benefits" type thing we've had going on in the first place, but i just wanted to be with you, in any way, so i agreed to it, thinking your feelings would eventually change. i definitely didn't think this was going to be the thing that would change your mind about us, but im glad it did. i love you too, and i wanna be with you. officially, and fully."
"officially and fully." colby repeated, leaning over to press a kiss to your lips.
"im glad we've figured this out. once we start telling people we can avoid the whole ‘yeah! we're having a baby without even being together!’ conversation."
"oh, i know. i wasn't looking forward to that either." he laughed. "speaking of, how are we gonna do our announcement?"
"i don't know. i've been trying to figure something out, but all the ones ive gone through online don't seem fitting for us." you sighed.
you sat there quietly for a moment, the both of you racking your brain for ideas. suddenly, a light bulb went off in your head.
"oh my god, yes!" you sat up, an idea running in your mind.
"what? what did you think of?" colby asked. you sat there without saying anything, picking up the onsie.
"a little explorer!"

imagine straddling his waist while taking these photos. his hands on your legs, rubbing circles on your knees. his fingers begin to trail up your legs, tickling you as they grazed your skin.
"you're so pretty." you said softly, rubbing a thumb across his cheek. you continued taking pictures as a silence filled the room. you may not have been speaking words, but your body language was loud enough to say what you were both feeling.
he takes the phone from you, setting it on the nightstand before taking your hands in his. he pulls you down, faces just inches apart before he presses a soft kiss to your lips. his hands run up and down your body, sending shivers up your spine and throughout your entire body.
you pulled away from the kiss to catch a breath, colby pouting at you.
"youre prettier." he said, pulling you back to meet his lips. you both knew right where this was headed.

a tiny scare || c.b.
summary: while on an investigation with sam and colby, you decide to play a harmless prank on them requested by anonymous. imagine this taking place during the video snc did at celina's home.
“alright, that was the main house. i’m gonna take you guess to the guest house now.” celina said. kris followed closely behind her, then sam, and you and colby were bringing up the rear.
“you doing okay?” colby asked you, draping his arm over your shoulder.
“yeah! i think being with such a big group has settled my nerves.” you said, leaning into his side. this was your first investigation trip you’d taken with sam and colby in a good while, so you’d been a bit nervous.
“good. i don’t want to put you you in anything that may make you uncomfortable.” he said, pressing a kiss to the top of your head.
you arrived at celina’s guest house, after a bit of a trek through the woods.
“alright, one of us has to explore the woods alone tonight.” sam blurred out, camera flipping towards the dark expanse of woods. silently, everyone placed their fingers on the tips of their nose. unfortunately, you didn’t realize what was happening until it was too late.
“aw, dammit.” you sighed, stomping your food. “i need to just start leaving my hand on my face for times like this.” you joked.
you walked around celina’s guest house for a bit while she showed you around, and telling you about experiences she’d heard her friends tell her about. you had a bit of an uneasy feeling while you walked around, but it subsided.
once you were done in the house, the five of your stepped out onto the porch. you all stared silently out into the woods.
“you don’t actually have to go, if you don’t want to.” sam said, putting down the camera.
“no, it’s okay. i came on this trip to have the experience, and this is part of it.” you said, taking the extra camera from colby. you turned it on, along with the light, and made your way into the forest.
as you walked deeper and deeper into the trees, your group getting smaller and quieter the more you walked. you were scared at first, mainly due to you being alone in the woods.  but after a while, you started to feel a bit more comfortable. there was really no paranormal reasons for you to be scared, and you were felling a bit of comfort being able to talk to the camera in front of you. you were no longer vulnerable, and actually feeling quite good.
so good, in fact, you decided you were going to play a little prank on your friends. by this time, you were already far enough out of ear shot that they wouldn’t hear you talking to the camera.
“yeah, like i said. i don’t really think anything is out here. or, at least not anything that wants to talk to me.” you said to the camera. “that being said, im in a silly goofy mood, and i want to get everyone back for making me do this.” you laughed into the lens. you took a few more steps before stopping you took a deep breath, entirely filling your lungs before letting out the loudest scream you could muster up. you stood there for a bit before you started to make your way out of the woods. the closer you got to the clearing where the guest house was, you heard your name being called. you put on your best “scared” expression before you were met with colby’s face. his face was pale white, and his eyes were as wide as golf balls.
“oh no, now i fell bad.” you thought to yourself as he pulled you into his arms.
“oh, im so glad you’re okay! we heard this scream, and we didn’t know if that was you.” he said, peppering kisses along your cheeks and forehead. “did you hear it?” he asked, hands still flush against your cheeks. you swallowed hard before answering.
“no? it was dead silent the whole time i was out there.” you lied through your teeth.
“seriously? you didn’t hear anything? it was the loudest scream ever.” sam said to you, the camera pointing in your direction. you just shook your head, committing to your lie.
the rest of the night everyone was on edge. you for a different reason from the rest of the group, but still.
a few weeks passed, and you were sitting in the living room of sam and colby’s house, a book in your lap while the boys were editing. they were editing the video you filmed at celina’s home. you were startled out of the chapter you were reading when you heard colby calling out for you upstairs.
“down here!” you called back, setting your book down. “what’s up?” you asked as he sat on the couch with you. he handed you his phone, pressing play on the video that was on his screen. you stared down at your face smiling back at you, the clip of your scream beginning to play. colby looked at you without saying anything, swiping to the next video on his phone. it was a clip from sam’s camera, footage taken at the same time as yours. he pressed play, the same scream heard in the background. you avoided his gaze, knowing that you would fold as soon as you opened your mouth.
“you wanna tell me what this is?” he asked, and you just shook your head.
“i think you already know.” you said quietly, suppressing a laugh.
“why would you do this to me? i've been worried about you the whole time since we been back, thinking that something happened to you that you’ve been avoiding talking about.”
“i’m sorry.” you spilled. “i felt guilty as soon as you came up to me that night, but i didn’t want to admit to it at the time.” you laughed uncomfortably. “but that’s what you get when you play nose goes without calling nose goes!”
colby just laughed and rolled it eyes. “you've been with me long enough to expect that from us.”
“yeah, but it’s still not fair when you don’t actually call nose goes.”
“okay, but we told you that you didn’t have to do it if you didn’t want to.”
“but then i wouldn’t have been able to plan my devious prank.” you laughed.
“oh, okay.” he said sarcastically.
“i didn’t mean to worry you.” you said, taking his hand in yours. “i really just meant for it to be a harmless little jokey joke.”
“it’s okay. i just felt like i need to protect you. i know you don’t need my protection, but i always want to be there for you. especially when you may have been going through something that happened while i was around, or during an investigation. i’d feel responsible, and so guilty.” he said.
“i know, and i hear you. i will always appreciate that you’re always quick to want to protect me.”
“i love you.” he said, lifting your hand to his lips, pressing a kiss to the back of it.
“i love you.” you repeated, flashing him a smile. he leaned over and pressing a few kisses to your lips before getting up from the couch and leaving you back to your book.

Friends with Benefits || Part Two - The Surprise
in the weeks leading up to christmas, you and colby spent a significant amount of time together. but following the holidays, as you both started to get busy again. with the two of you back at work and dealing with your separate adult lives, the nights you spent together became few and far between. you’d spent new year’s and his birthday together, and you made sure to treat him nicely. it unfortunately became radio silence following that.
"i just miss him. it's been two weeks since his birthday, and the last time we were with each other." you sighed to your friend. they were the only one who knew about your situation with colby, and the only person you could confide in.
"you guys really haven't spoken in two weeks?" they asked.
"we've spoken, and we have seen each other, but not like we used to. i mean, we’re friends first, and have been for years. before we started hooking up, we saw each other regularly. now it’s like, a single text every other day, and a quick hi and bye when we actually do see each other.” you sighed. “and it's been two weeks since we've had sex. i think that's the longest we've gone without it since we started hooking up.”
"i dont want to be asking the obvious here, but have you tried telling him you need him?" they asked, and you just nodded.
"maybe he's finally over it, and i just have to move on." you sighed.
later that evening, as you were trying to decide on dinner, nothing seemed appetizing to you. you eventually decided on take out, ordering something from the sandwich shop down the street. when it was delivered, your appetite faded, and the idea of eating was completely out of your mind.
the smell of your food was nauseating, but you figured it was just because you were that hungry. you unpacked your food and sat down to eat. you felt a bit better after you ate some of your sandwich, but that unfortunately didn't last. you ran to the bathroom, feeling like you were going to throw up. although, nothing came up.
you searched around your medicine cabinet for something to settle your stomach. you scoured and cleared out your cabinets and didn’t find anything that you could take. although, you did find something else that could explain your stomach ache.
"oh fuck." you said aloud, your birth control pills in your hand. you looked down at them, realizing you’d forgotten to take your last one. "fuck, fuck, fuck."
here came the vomit.
after you finished throwing up, you sat on the floor with a million thoughts racing through your mind.
is this for real? what am i gonna do? what is colby gonna say? how could i have let this happen?
you took some time to collect your thoughts and finally found the strength to get up from the floor. you gathered your thinks to head to the drugstore to get some tums and buy a pregnancy test. just as you opened the door to leave, there was colby standing with his hand up, about to knock.
"oh! what are you doing here?" you asked out of breath, heart dropping to your stomach.
"i missed you. i'm sorry i’ve been less talkative than usual. sam and i had a lot of planning for these upcoming trips, and catching up on work since the holiday."
"no worries! i'm glad youre okay. i missed you too." you said with a small smile.
"your voice sounds raspy, are you okay?"
"i've got a bit of an upset stomach, and threw up a little bit. i was just gonna run to the drugstore and get some tums."
"okay then, let's go." colby said, wrapping his arm around your shoulders. your heart fell deeper into your stomach, but you knew better than to try and convince him to let you go on your own.
the walk down to the drugstore was awkward, as you and colby made small conversation. you didn't want to tell him anything, especially since you weren't sure if there was going to be anything to tell.
you walked up and down the aisles of the drugstore, and you grabbed your tums and another anti nausea medicine. you stood at the end of the family planning aisle, shoes suddenly feeling like they were full of cement. the words on the sign taunted you, unsettling your stomach and making you want to throw up again.
you walked down the aisle and stood in front of the pregnancy tests, overwhelmed by how many options there were. as you stood there, trying to make a decision, you heard colby's voice calling out to you.
"y/n?" he asked, you turned to face him, tears welling in your eyes. "are you ..?"
"maybe." you said quietly. you stared at each other, a thick tension forming between you. the color faded completely from his face, and his eyes were wide. you were sure you had the same expression on your face.
you finally grabbed a box from the shelf and went to pay for your things. you and colby walked back to your apartment in silence, neither of you knowing what to say to each other.
you walked off to your room as colby sat in the living room. you locked yourself in the bathroom, starting to cry again while you worked up the courage to actually take the test. once you finally did, you set it on the counter and threw a handfull of tums into your mouth. you began pacing the bathroom, your mind racing again while you waited for the results.
you jumped at the sound of your timer finally going off. you took a deep breath before finally picking the test up from the counter. you slowly opened your eyes, them filling with tears as soon as they landed on the screen.
you slowly walked out of the bathroom and into the living room, colby standing up as soon as he saw you.
“so? what’s the result?” he asked softly.
“i’m pregnant.”
