I've had Drown stuck in my head a lot lately, especially the lines: Yesterday the sky was you, and I still feel the same. Nothing left for me to do, and I still feel the same.

It's wonderfully ambiguous phrasing that draws the listener to question the intent and meaning... Do I still feel you are the sky? Do I still feel the same as I did when I felt you were the sky? Does you being the sky not counter what I am feeling? ... and the ambiguity allows the listener to ask those questions, without knowing an answer. Allowing for reflection upon the songs' meaning and allowing the listener to be reflective upon their own lives. So, of course, I had to add a harmony in where there wasn't before... to allow for that reflecting be in multiple voices.

I hate how some folks will paint my generation with a broad brush and say we "don't have any idea what [they] went through" regarding homophobia/queerphobia. Yeah, we did grow up in a more accepting culture, but some of us also grew up in fucking Utah. This cultural shithole is trapped in the goddamn 1950s.
