I agree so much with this
Do you ever hate the fact that your gay?
I wouldn’t say “hate” but it’s something I’ve certainly questioned before. Why am I the way I am? I see straight couples and can’t help but lament over how easy they have it. But I always have to catch myself and remember “why would I want an easy life?” Nothing good comes from complacency. We need conflict, we need opposition, they are the catalyst of progress. They drive creativity.
Obviously I’m white, and have the luxury of all that accounts for, but being gay has afforded me a window into the challenges faced by other minorities, allowing me greater opportunity to empathize, learn and grow.
It has in recent years shaped my life, giving me greater purpose and understanding of exactly what it is I hope to achieve with my artwork. And while it comes with it’s own struggles, I have learned to embrace them. It has made me stronger, and I am a better person because of it.
But yeah, some days I’m like “fuck this shit”… but I guess gays kinda like that anyways.
