"All too often in the past, science fiction writers made things easy for themselves by portraying a white, middle-class, male-dominated universe, even attributing white, middle-class, male values to their 'alien' races. I'm not comfortable writing about such a universe, behaving as though it represented the one true way." -Octavia Butler

I looked into the yellow eyes, wondering how much I saw and understood there, and how much I only imagined.

Class assignment to create a representation of the Oankali aliens from Octavia Butler's Dawn. It's a very interesting book, I'd recommend it.

I just finished the trial of Apollo series and like I feel like I NEED MORE DESPERATELY.
SPOILER ALERT:
When Apollo turned into that light and then woke up and became a god again, he learned his lesson. He had his friends he made his journey. So alls well that ends well right? I don't know about that. I feel like all his friends went their own ways and Apollo didn't belong anywhere. Sure he learned his lesson but he doesn't have an identity.
The book ended with an open issue and I feel like it should be resolved. I assumed it would be in the next series but the Riordan says this is the end.
I NEED MORE! (ALSO BECAUSE THATD THE FUNHIEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ AND I WAE MY DRUG)

Atlas Six and Sexuality
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE BOOK, ATLAS SIX !! For a number of reasons but one of them being its portrayal of Lgbtq sexuality. More specifically how sexuality can be fluid. I never thought of it like this before.
Most of the books and movies I have read or watched have a character being straight, gay, or bi. Typically they have a dialogue to address being lbgtq because it is a somewhat important plot point. You either like the opposite sex, the same sex, or both. End of story. There is a need to label. In Atlas Six, whenever a character likes another character whether it is the same sex or not, they just like them. No need to label. You love who you love.
That's all that matters. The lack of commentary IS commentary.
Each character is intricately woven with their philosophy and romance and sexuality flow into it. So smoothly that I didn't realize Atlas Six was LGBTQ until I looked up the Atlas Six tag on tumblr. I saw LGBTQ along with all the Atla Six fanart and was surprised because I never thought of it as gay or straight. They were just two characters who loved each other. Each character is not just DEVOTED to another, the characters are meeting and building relationships with others. There is a complex romance to it.
OKAY SPOILERS AHEAD: (it doesn't hurt to know these plot points because they don't ruin the story at all but they still spoilers ig)
Also mention of sex ahead and some cussing.
Nico(guy): He has strong emotional feelings for his roommate Gideon. But he labels it and treats it as friendship but the emotions are like romance. With Parisa, he wants to have sex with her and seems to understand her anger at the world despite being identified as a "villain"
Parisa(girl): She fucks men to get what she wants buy it isn't exclusively men. She has sex with people as a tool. She likes people for who they are. She kisses Libby because Libby is useful not because she is female.
Libby(girl): She fucks her boyfriend Ezra and Parisa not because of their gender but because of the circumstance. She is validated by Ezra and Parisa makes her feel powerful
Tristian(guy): He is used book to being used and loves Callum & Parisa because they use him. He has sex with Libby because she is useful.
Callum(guy): He loves Tristian but in a twisted sort of love because he sees himself in Tristian and loves himself. He would kill Tristian if he had to (in my opinion)

The Nevernight Chronicles
I LOVED IT SO MUCH. I loved the first book and by the time I got to the 2nd one, my entire day surrounded it.
SPOILER ALERT:
However, what got me upset was how Tric was treated. Tric was murdered by Ashlinn and then Mia fell in love with her. Like Ashlinn took his girlfriend AND his life. And then Ashlinn is like "wtf whats your problem. What happened, happened."
I WAS SO MAD I HAS TO DROP THE SERIES. I AM SORRY. I needed to know how the series ended though but all I saw was Ashlinn dies and is brought back to life, where Mia makes out with her. AND TRIC IS A GHOST FIGHTING FOR MIA. WHY? you deserve WAY better than Mia. And Mia just doesnt care for him. No guilt. She is the worst protagonist EVER written.
IDK what Jay Kristoff was thinking istg

SPOILER ALERT FOR KING OF SCARS
I know everyone loves the Grishaverse and I do too but I started disliking the books after the King of Scars. Nina straight up stopped caring about Mattias and fell in love with someone else. I think it's fine that she fell in love with another person but I feel as though Mattias was completely disregarded and it made me FURIOUS. He gave so much but got nothing. Then Zoya is okay but very unlikeable, leaving only Nikolai. I love him but it is hard to get through the books when I have to fight through the pages of the other two protagonists and wait for him.

WHAT GAY ICONS, WE STAN
There’s no way Cardan or Jude are just straight.
Cardan is literally described in ridiculously extravagant clothes which is a little fruity to me
You cannot tell me that Jude calling all the faerie “beautiful” was not her secretly having a bi panic
AND CARDAN NEVER SITS STRAIGHT LIKE:

i say bi couple energy
