GoldLink Loses His Love in “Palm Trees / Late Night” Video
youtube
GoldLink goes two for one with his latest music video. The 2015 XXL Freshman combines “Palm Trees” and “Late Night” from his album And After That, We Didn’t Talk to create a single story about losing his love. The video opens up with a woman who has been in a fatal car accident. From there, the scene flashes back as the viewer sees she is GoldLink’s girl. The two are shown with another couple enjoying a relaxing ride.
“Underneath the palm trees/You can leave your worries/I don’t need nobody/You and me together/Run away from mommas/Still live witcha momma/That’s alright, we gon’ make this trip together/Popping up at parties/Drinking on Bacardi/Singing Cool J, ‘I just wanna love you betta/And I just wanna love you betta/You know cause it’s winter weather/And I need my baby back,” GoldLink raps on “Palm Trees” during the early section of the video.
As the story progresses, “Palm Trees” and “Late Night” alternate as the soundtrack to the action. GoldLink and company hit up a bar, rob a convenience store and avoid some major trouble at taco joint. The eventful evening closes out with the D.C. native and his girl taking things to the bedroom for an intimate encounter.
Following a passionate night with Goldlink, the object of the rapper’s affections leaves in the morning at 6:30 am. It is here that the viewer realizes the woman is getting into the car where she will later meet her demise. The video pans up to some palm trees before showing her driving down a street before the wreck occurs.

Jay Electronica Teases New Music
Tumblr media
We know. We Know. You’ve heard it all before. Jay Electronica teases new music, then nothing happens. It’s been that way for the past eight or so years. But something’s gotta give, right? The mythical Jay Elect recently took to Twitter to tease fans once again about the possibility of new music coming out. After dropping some knowledge on the meaning behind the title of his new album, J.E. sent this tweet.
“To all those who have been patient with me and supported me over the years, thank you. And get #Tidal #AreYouWatchingClosely?,” he posted.
The posts left many to speculate that Jay finally has some new waves to offer with Tidal being the possibly contractually obligated landing spot for any new music from the NOLA MC.
Another thing that gives fans hope is Elect has been as vocal (and visible) this year as he has in any of the past several. He kicked off the year making news for going at Kendrick Lamar and 50 Cent during a Periscope rant.
In February, the elusive rapper dropped the track “The Curse of Mayweather.” In April, he went on a brief tour of the West Coast.
In May he appeared on the Chance The Rapper track “How Great” off the Chicago rapper’s new mixtape Coloring Book.
Last September, Just Blaze revealed he has a finished version of Jay Electronica’s new album on his hard drive. Will Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn) see the light of day in 2016?
Every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts.
— سيف الله (@JayElectronica) July 3, 2016
The first part is called #ThePledge. The magician shows you something ordinary: a deck of cards, a bird or a M A N.
— سيف الله (@JayElectronica) July 3, 2016
He shows you this object. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. But of course..it probably isn't
— سيف الله (@JayElectronica) July 3, 2016
The 2nd Act is called #TheTurn.
— سيف الله (@JayElectronica) July 3, 2016
This is where #TheMagician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something EXTRAORDINARY.
— سيف الله (@JayElectronica) July 3, 2016
to all those who have been patient with me and supported me over the years, thank you. And get #Tidal #AreYouWatchingClosely?

Desiigner Performs DJ Khaled’s “I Got the Keys” Featuring Future and Jay Z at Show
youtube
Desiigner’s troll job of Future hit new levels during a recent show when he performed The Astronaut Kid’s new duet with Jay Z, “I Got the Keys.”
Video footage of the show captures the G.O.O.D. Music rapper performing in a dark venue. His DJ is cranking the new DJ Khaled-cultivated track while Desiigner turns TF up, rapping parts of the words and throwing in his signature ad-libs for good measure.
This of course isn’t the first time the “Panda” rapper has intentionally or unintentionally trolled Future. It has almost become a normal occurrence. This year at SXSW he debuted a new song called “Pluto” which is the title of Hendrix’s debut LP.
He has even gone as far as mimickng #FutureHives Purple Reign memes and calling his fan base the #PandaHive. Is there a method to his madness? If so, we hope it doesn’t backfire.
The Brooklyn rapper is currently enjoying a fever buzz recently dropping his mixtape New English and nabbing a spot on the coveted XXL 2016 Freshmen cover. His debut single “Panda” played a big role in his meteoric rise to fame as it reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 only being dethroned by Drake’s “One Dance.” To add insult to imitation, “Panda” gave Desiigner his first No. 1 record before Future could reach the same feat.
Desiigner’s Freshmen freestyle has now gone viral gaining over 4.5 million views on YouTube in just over a week.

Wiz Khalifa Teases New Music Dropping This Week
Tumblr media
Wiz Khalifa has already dropped two projects in 2016 and it looks like the third is coming this week.
Yesterday (July 3), the Pittsburgh rapper took to Twitter to make a brief announcement, letting fans know to expect new material. “Happy Sunday. Getting new music mixed and artwork done to drop this week,” he posted.
Wizzle just dropped new music last month with the release of group TGOD Mafia album Rude Awakening, along with Juicy J and TM88, so this comes as a surprise.
The next project that was expected from Wiz is Rolling Papers 2 which is slated to drop this year. However, that project could be tied up in red tape as Wiz and his label Rostrum Records battle it out in court.
Last month, Wiz sued the label and accused them of basically tricking him into signing a 360 deal and duping him out of a large amount of scratch.  “An artist’s most trusted advisor is his or her personal manager,” Alex Weingarten, Khalifa’s attorney at Venable LLP, said about the situation. “Generally, nothing good comes out when the manager decides to go into business against his artist. Unfortunately, that is the case here.”
Rostrum has since counter-sued Wiz. They are claiming to be owed a 15% cut of the rapper’s touring and music royalties from a deal that was signed back in 2005. The company argues that it’s also owed 20% of Wiz’s merchandise

U.S. Dept. of Justice Rules Against Increasing Songwriter Royalties
Tumblr media
The U.S. Department of Justice has delivered a blow to the songwriting community with a ruling handed down last week (June 30) that denies their request for increased royalty shares, particularly in the face of streaming services and the changing industry landscape. The issue centered around music licensing consent decrees and the manner in which songwriters are paid from them.
As Forbes is reporting, the DOJ has denied requests from songwriters to change the present licensing laws which allow performing rights societies or PROs to license a song written by a songwriter that they represent regardless of that songwriters involvement. The ruling mostly discourages collaboration among writers as royalty distribution is left up to the PROs and any given song can have a number of songwriters represented by different ones.
Martin Bandier, Chairman and CEO of publishing company Sony/ATV, said of the ruling, “We are incredibly disappointed by the unjust way the Department has decided to interpret the consent decrees. Its decision is going to cause a tremendous amount of uncertainty and chaos in a marketplace that has worked well for years and will adversely impact everyone in the licensing process, including PROs, licensees, music publishers and most of all songwriters who can ill afford to hire lawyers to figure out their rights under this inexplicable ruling. The decision raises more questions than answers.”
Furthermore, the ruling has denied requests from songwriters to withdraw their catalog from digital licensing altogether. Think of it this way then: if several artists are collaborating on a song in the studio, multiple writers receiving credit on the end product, each of their PROs would then have to organize royalty distribution, which in the case of streaming services can often be pennies on the dollar. Just as well, any one of those writers can decide on licensing without the consent of the others.
