It’s so sad to me how one sided a lot Nesta’s relationships are. It feels like when ever she cares for someone they don’t care about her as much.
Nesta would do anything for Elain but Elain couldn’t be bothered with Nesta
Nesta thought Amren was her closest friend but Amren just wanted Nesta’s power
Even Cassian. Her own mate put his friends before Nesta even when they’re saying horrible thing about her.
I think this is why I love the Valkyries so much. Nesta, Emerie, and Gwyn all put the same amount of effort into their friendship. They all give and receive the same amount of love and truly see each other as equals. It’s just nice to see Nesta have a friendship like that. Especially considering how intensely she cares for people.

Can someone provide one single reason (that makes actual sense) why SJM would have made Elain and Lucien mates in book 2 if she were going to have them break the bond?
Somewhere between writing book 1 and starting book 2, once she realized the sisters would play a continuing role in the series, SJM confirmed that Lucien was going to be Nesta's mate.
She decided against that because that bond would have been bad for both of them. She wasn't only concerned about Nesta but Lucien too. That the two of them together would worsen the deep wounds they've both suffered in the past.
Which literally translates to SJM wanting them to have a bond that would heal them and bring them happiness.
So why then, would she mate Lucien to yet another Archeron who would break him in the end? And so soon after deciding she didn't want him to have a bond that would not work out for him? We know that even if they choose someone else, they will always feel a tug to one another and the males feel it more.
Do people honestly think that Lucien is destined to not only have lost his first love, a truly epic and pure love that was reciprocal for both parties involved, but his mate as well? The loss of Jesminda will haunt him forever, and then he will be doomed to feel the echo of an unfulfilled mating bond on top of that? But sure, whatever love he has with Vassa like people are trying to claim is somehow going to be enough to make those losses fade away?
I don't see it. Jesminda's love left such a permanent mark on Luciens heart, I honestly think the only thing that could ever compare is a Soul Bonded Mating Bond.

“Lucien,” she said at last
“His name is Lucien.”
I could be wrong but I don't think Elain has ever said Az's name.

To Anyone Who Doesn't Like Eris:
Specifically, if you don't like him for what happened with Mor. Idk about other reasons...
Just wanted to let you know that they did the math.
Eris was around 9 when he broke off the engagement with Mor.
Yep.

"I do not belong in the Autumn Court. And I’m willing to bet I’m no longer welcome at h—the Spring Court.” Home, he had almost said.
“I’m not staying with them. The manor is ours.”
Lucien claims the Manor in the Human Lands is his home but.... Did he really want to move in with Jurian and Vassa? Is that where he would have chosen to be? I think not considering he follows the above with:
“I don’t have anywhere else to go.” Before I could object, he said, “You ruined any chance I have of going back to Spring. Not to Tamlin, but to the court beyond his house.
🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
“I want to go home,” she said, voice wobbling slightly.
Elain tells Rhys she wants to head home (the River House) after her dispute with Nesta. But why is that her home right now?
Graysen swallowed. “Did you think you could come back here—live with me as this … lie?”
“No. Yes. I—I don’t know what I wanted—”
“I belong to no one. But my heart belongs to you.”
“I am not marrying you. Our engagement is over. I will take whatever people occupy your lands. But not you. Never you."
No, she tended to her gardens here, silently mourning her lost human life
The River House in the Night Court is her home by default, not because she wanted it that way.
☀️🌺☀️🌺☀️🌺☀️🌺☀️🌺☀️🌺☀️🌺☀️🌺☀️
“Let him live with his Band of Exiles. Let him deal with Tamlin in his own way. Let him figure out where he wants to be. Who he wants to be. The same goes with her.”
I think Mor told us all we need to know. Neither Lucien and Elain have decided two very important questions for themselves, "who they are" and "where they want to be". They are two characters who accepted where their circumstances took them rather than fighting for what they want because they feel they didn't have a choice in fighting for what they want. Lucien in the Human Lands and Elain in the Night Court are not decisions they made for themselves but accepted for lack of better options.
SJM herself said of Elain and Lucien's journey:
"and without getting to spoilery, there was a great deal of tension, growth, and healing to be found for both of them (together)"
The quote from Mor in the Novella is very in line with what SJM said in answer to the question for the future of Elucien. We have yet to see growth happening between the two of them, together.
There's always the counter-argument that the author could have changed her mind because at one point Nesta was going to be Luciens mate. The difference there is when she talks about that, it's only to tell us how poorly suited they would have been for one another. When asked about Elain and Lucien together, she comments on how their pairing took her by surprise, that they would heal together, and their perfect date would be touring the gardens through London before making their way to the countryside as they are both happiest in nature.
The characters themselves are still at arms length but that is right in line with what SJM said about them.
"there was actually a great deal of tension"
“Where’s Elain?”
“I am not always in this city to see my mate.” The last two words dripped with discomfort
Sounds a lot like:
“Is it Nesta?”
“Not everything in my life is about your sister, you know.”
And this:
I wondered why no one had yet mentioned what now shone in Cassian’s eyes as he gazed at my sister. The sorrow. And the longing.
Sounds a lot like this:
Cassian’s heart strained at the pain etching deep into Lucien’s face as he tried to hide his disappointment and longing.
While Nesta and Elain are very different in personality and will not respond in the same way, their refusal to engage with their mates is all too similar:
She’d made it clear enough in those initial days after that last battle that she wanted nothing to do with him.
“What is that.” “Your Solstice present.” “I don’t want one.”
“I don’t want anything from you.”
Even as she said, “I’ve made my thoughts clear enough on what I want from you.”
Nesta only stared at him, her nose crinkling. Stared, then snorted—and walked away.
She was too polite to send him away on a normal day. She just ignored him or barely spoke to him until he got the hint and left
She set aside the box without looking at it for longer than a moment.
one for his mate, who barely thanked him after opening the pearl earrings.
Elain only shrank further into herself
I've seen it said that because Elain and Lucien don't argue the way Nessian did, it's not the same thing. But Elain and Lucien are both canonically polite and proper in their speech, they won't be exactly like Nessian. For anyone who thinks Elain currently feels apprehension, anxiety or uncertainty around Lucien, those are all synonyms for tension.
It's not only Elain's choices that were taken from her but Nesta's as well:
“Why should I have to try to do anything?” Her teeth flashed. “I was dragged into this world of yours, this court.”
If Nesta and Cassian found their way to one another despite Nesta needing to overcome her past and her initial reservations about becoming Fae and accepting a mate, there's no reason to think Elain and Lucien can't as well once they're ready to deal with the things they've been avoiding so they can move forward with their futures (together as stated by SJM) and in a home they have decided for themselves.

If Nesta was a 6’7 white man with blue eyes she would’ve been praised as the “morally grey grumpy hot male character with deep trauma” and everyone will love him and empathise with him.
They will call out the hypocrisy of the IC and how bad the intervention was. They will talk about how no one was there for him after the war and trauma he went thro given how YOUNG he was.
Yes Nesta did some bad things and wasn’t a good sister to Feyre. But at the same time, why not give the same energy to Rhysand? He’s not perfect, and he isn’t a feminist icon. He literally SA Feyre in Under The Mountain. It wasn’t cute or hot and I almost DNF’ed because of it. It wasn’t romantic…
Don’t tell me he had to do it, because I won’t accept this answer. He didn’t have to drug her and make her embarrass herself in front of ppl she doesn’t know. He didn’t have to make her do inappropriate things…
But ppl gloss over these things because he’s a man :)

y’all love the morally gray, snarky, grief stricken characters until it’s a woman. i’ve seen so much discourse regarding female characters who display the exact same character traits as male leads and are criticized for it while the men are praised. let women be cruel and vindictive. let them deal with their grief and trauma in destructive ways. let them be real. give them the same treatment you would give to your favorite male love interest.

If Rhys stayed 5 seconds more when the mating bond snapped for him, he would've blurted it out in Feyre's face that she is his mate. He literally winnowed right at that moment to Velaris and the first thing he said to Mor after 50 years was "she's my mate".
He even explains to Feyre that if he stayed one moment longer he would've took her with him. That's how hard the bond hits the male. It's very unsettling for them.
Lucien whispering it in front of Elain in that moment is not him declaring her as his, it was simply a SHOCK. It was a life-altering moment on a biological level. It unsettled his instincts and it clashes with the grief and the pain he lived with for centuries—thinking Jesminda was his mate, only for a stranger to turn out to be his at the worst moment imaginable.
They're Fae people.

Morrigan is disgusting.
Like at first she was like "Oh, I survived the trauma five hundred years ago, but I still can't cope with it, oh yes, of course I will become Feyre's bestie, because we women should stick together and in general female power forever. Yes-Yes, I'm a dreamer born in the Court of Nightmares."
And then sharply like "Lol, I don't give a damn about the fate of women in the Hewn City, because they are all assholes solely, because the people who hurt me came from the same place, so I don't give a damn about the dreamers who also suffer from cruel treatment, I'd rather intimidate the inhabitants even more so that they would not dare to hope for help from the High Lord."
And also like "Oh, you cruel bitch Nesta, because you did not want to lay under a disgustingly behaving man or a sister who has power in hit her head, I wish you to experience all that from which I myself cannot recover for five hundred years, because you are destroying my little pink bubble."

Thinking about Feyre. Young, happy, beautiful, and CHILDFREE. Thinking about the universe in which Nyx doesn't exist and Feyre never had to worry about dying in childbirth. Thinking about the universe where she got to enjoy her immortality for centuries before choosing to have children and where she had the safe, stress-free pregnancy she deserved. Thinking about the universe where she never got married to Rhysand in the first place.
