Just some thoughts on this:
So I really believe that Cassie portrays them the way the POV sees them. When we see things in their POV, she writes from (Inventor) viewpoint it becomes more clear that there is more going on inside and it’s deeper than it appears to be.
Unrelated example: From Lucie’s POV you see Matthew as a friend, you know his drinking is a problem and something is wrong but you’re not sure what. Then when you’re reading from Matthew’s POV and you see the self loathing, how terrible the drinking problem really is, and the pain.
POV is everything and Cassie writes it well.
In real life, SOME geniuses can be seen as absent minded or slightly eccentric but really what it is, is FOCUS. LASER FOCUS on their work, sometimes at the expense of focus on other parts of their life. It’s not that they don’t think about other things or that they aren’t important...but remember PERCEPTION is everything. 🤷🏼♀️
I really dislike the way Cassandra Clare portrays scientists and geniuses in her books, I find it very stereotypical. Of course I don’t know a scientist myself to know better, but in the TSC books, they always are ‘’the absent minded kid who blows up stuff’’ and it feels rather old fashioned. I’m not judging these type of characters, I’m a social awkward myself, but I feel like they should be more developted. I have high hopes for Christopher and Ty in the upcoming books…
Geniuses are cool, interesting people. Artemis Fowl, Macgyver, Nikolai Lantsov showed that. And I really wish Henry Fairchild and Christopher were more appreciated in this fandom. Like Christopher said in his short tale, Henry (with Magnus help) saved countless lives because he invented the Portal.
