One must write about what is most
Important.
And so I choose
No, I must,
Write about love
About me, and about
You.
About what was lost
About what we couldn’t manage to
Do.
Despite the way our bodies moved,
Despite your eyes,
A bottomless
Blue.
I was blind, wild
High in the sky
Like some reckless
Moon.
But the sun must rise
And it must set
And when it did
We were miles apart
And I was left alone
In the dark
with nothing but the
Truth.

You are electric
Humming,
Thrumming,
Music in my bones.
My hands beg for your shoulders,
My lips beg for your ear,
So that I could whisper,
Softly,
Every aspiration, song, fire,
That you inspire.

Oh, the onrush of loving waves,
I drown with gratitude in their wake.
The unleashing of words, ripping free
Like moths towards a light, birds from a cage
Freedom, terrifying freedom,
And the hushing touch, of hearing you say,
“I’m flying too,
It’s okay.”

Sometimes you just have to tell yourself,
“It doesn’t matter”
And try to believe it.

His eyes
Are changeable
Like the sky,
Like the sea,
Like a storm
That could mourn, pour,
rage
Until free.
I want him
In my arms
Safe and warm,
An embrace of spring.
I want to be
The sun that pierces
The clouds; I want
To give him peace.

I’ll stand outside your door,
Slide you notes across the floor.
I know you wanted more-
I know,
You wanted more.
But I stand in shadows- cast by a wall that has steel in its core
Nothing will budge it and, after trying, my fingernails are torn.
I wait. I don’t know what for.
I wait...
Oh, what for?

And I don’t know how to do it-
I either give too much
Or not enough.
I’m either a flowing River
Or a rigid wall.
My heart can’t match its beat
To another, and it refuses to belong
To anything
but me.
It hurts…it hurts but
Even alone,
I am complete.
Like a mountain, I stand…
The clouds hiding its peak.

I miss you and
You miss something
And we both will
Go through life longing
For something that has
No business belonging.
But that is the world’s operation,
I believe.
For, the sea rushes for land
While the moon
Tugs at the sea
And it doesn’t seem fair...
That even the sea,
Isn’t really free.

Maybe I should have gone to you
In January, when the cold
Rang in the earth’s bones-
Shaking,
Shaking
Shaking you unsteady
Your heart heavy
Your mind ready
To unravel.
Yes, maybe I should have gone to you-
Even if you would have gone away,
Anyway.

I don’t know if you understand
Just how
I love you so.
My love is a flame,
That burns
In the snow.
Enough to sustain the pain
Of any
Winter’s cold.
Warm your heart beside my fire,
Wrap yourself
In my soul.
Your love gives me desire,
A smoldering warmth
I have never known.

Love, for me,
Has always ended
In shame.
Love, for me,
Has always blended
With pain.

I have so much love
To pour into you
It drowns

Is it love?
Is it that
Which the world
Does not have
Enough of?
If so,
I will be a dove
And know how it feels
To fly above.
But things fade.
At least, that is how
Colors are made.
Why should all else
Not be
The same?
If I write your name
Down upon this page
Will it not
Be gray
After the toll
Of a many years’ fray?
Or will it stay?
Will it all
Stay?
