@clover.stroud: My guest this week on Tiny Acts of Bravery is the wonderful Helena Bonham Carter. Helena was a close friend with my sister Nell, who died in 2019. After Nell’s death we became friends, and I truly love being with Helena, since she honours my sister so absolutely that I feel Nell is in the room too when I am with her. That little red and white striped lampshade behind us in the summerhouse at Helena’s house where we chatted is a circus inspired nod to Nell, as Nell was obsessed by circus and had her own. Helena was so generous and shared so much of what she has learned about bravery, much of it inspired by her mother, who taught her the importance of feeling every emotion, even when that feels like a terrifying and difficult thing to do. We talked about those moment of reconstruction which happen at big times in life, like after a death or a birth or when we are feeling most defeated and depressed, which require real bravery. This was an incredibly intimate, beautiful conversation and I hope you enjoy being in the room with us. I once joked to Helena that I worry I am a cut price version of my sister, since she was incredibly tall and very beautiful and striking and always wore Gucci and Versace and lots of fur and wild amounts of jewellery, and I am none of these things, so am the cut price version. We share this joke again, listen out for it. I loved this conversation, it was so special, and I really hope you enjoy the intimacy of it ❤️❤️❤️❤️
