This is the first piece I've ever redone, and I don't really like doing things over again but this bee is too cute. The first version, pictured below and made back in the end of 2018, had a rushed sketch because I was eager to get to the stippling process and I made a lot of mistakes. I've definitely refined my sketches over the years. It's cool to see how far I've come in the last six years (but especially in the last six months).
Dianthidium curvatum | micron pen, color pencil, and white gel pen | April 2024 | Hazel Fricke
Getting all loosey-goosey working on this curled up panda king! It's weird not building a piece up with stippling underneath to help define the subject but an interesting change of technique. It'll tighten up when I switch to color pencils!
Sometimes getting myself to draw is like trying to shower on a cold day: really hard to get it started but then you never want to stop/get out. I hit my stride on this piece today! Still gotta go a little darker but I think I'll do that during the coloring process and save my hand from more stippling.
