Hey everyone!
Lately, I've been feeling a bit lost with my Russian language blog. Given the current situation, it's hard to see the bigger picture and the purpose of teaching this beautiful language.
But then, I had an amazing conversation with one of my students, and with other students, too, and it reminded me of the joy of cultural exchange and language learning.
That got me thinking... what do YOU love about learning Russian? Why do you follow this blog? What kind of posts resonate most with you?

privet evgenia! do you speak any of the other languages in Russia, such as the Siberian one you mentioned just now?
Unfortunately, no. Not that Siberian indigenous languages were widely in use or taught, not in the Altai region. There were no courses of Altai languages in my university. Though my paternal family is from rural Altai area, they all speak Russian (not without some regional accent though). My friends who are partially indigenous, don't know their languages either.
The story of Russian colonization of Siberia is waiting to be told.

Oh, wow, Nuria is back!
Nuria, a bright and beautiful lady from Barcelona, studied Russian in Moscow, and, after returning back to Spain, ran a channel on YouTube in Russian just for fun and for language practice.
When Russia attacked Ukraine, Nuria stopped blogging (and, God, I can understand her decision), but a week ago, she resumed posting, and I am very glad that she did. Her challenge is to prove (to self, first of all) that loving a language doesn't mean loving the government of the country where that language is most spoken.
Her videos are extremely inspirational and insightful for Russian learners. Subscribe to her channel if you haven't yet and support her work - I guess, she needs it now more than ever.

Imperfective vs Perfective Verbs
Russian verb aspect shows how you view an action. Imperfect describes ongoing or habitual actions, while perfective focuses on actions that have certain limits , a starting point or an end. It's about mental framing, not real-world beginnings and ends. Let me show you how it works:
Imperfective:
Мы всю ночь тусили в клубе. We partied all night at the club.
The party is over, but the imperfective verb тусили represents your night out as a lasting event (it was for you when you were there), it takes you back to the club -- at least, in your mind.
Perfective:
Мы сперва потусили в клубе, а потом пошли ко мне. We hung out at the club first, and then we went to my place.
You describe your night out as something that took place in the past. You are not mentally going back to the events of the night, you are just saying what happened, so the perfective verbs потусили and пошли work best here.

In Russian, причастие means both communion (Eucharist) and participle (grammar).
Apparently, it is because of the root -част- meaning part, share.

Have you studied participles (причастия) in Russian?
I found that often, participles (причастия) are not mentioned much in Russian textbooks, or only mentioned as part of a written and, probably, bookish style.
This is not entirely true. Participles are often used conversationally as well. Have you ever studied participles in formal Russian classes or independently?
