Tired of language learning apps constantly downgrading for profit? Introducing Lingonaut Project
We've all seen previously great language learning apps such as Duolingo or Busuu gradually losing quality, because of the owners always looking for more ways to make money. That is why a programmer and language fan by the name of Dr.Greenboys on Discord decided to do something about it, and start his own project, with a strict non-profit policy, never to be sold to the stock market, and premium tiers only giving aesthetic benefits, instead of not being able to pay money damaging the service's ability to teach you a language. It is still in development, but I am really happy to have found this project, and wanted to share it with the world.
Did I mention that, unlike Duolingo, we'll take volunteers for pretty much any language as long as the volunteers are fluent in it?
Anyways, you can find the project's page at https://lingonaut.app/
i love archaic irish insults. like yeah sure we may not have an equivalent for "go fuck yourself" but we DO have "i hope the devil eats your liver and builds a stepladder out of your bones" and tbh i know which one is better
i love the strange reality of being a human person with a human brain. one time someone said something to me in a foreign language (japanese, which i do not speak) and i automatically responded in a different foreign language (spanish, which i do not speak well) and then we both said "what?" in english, an experience made more surreal by the fact that everyone around us was speaking loudly in canadian french (as this occurred in Quebec)
slowly realising that my love for writing and for literature is so closely connected to my love for languages, it is like i just have this indefinite hunger to collect all the possible ways on how to express myself and to soak up other peoples stories
every time i see someone say that we should erase all other languages and make english the 'universal language' I'm reminded how ignorant and culturally insensitive some people are. to not be aware of the historical and cultural significance of a language in most cultures is bizarre. in erasing a language you would thus be erasing years of important history of a culture. i hope these people educate themselves before speaking on something they know nothing about simply because it would 'make their lives easier'. not to mention its so tone-deaf to the people who are fighting for language revitalization due to the historical language suppression of their ancestors.
when I want to learn French but I also think it would be cool to learn Italian but Korean is also pretty cool but then there's also German and can't forget about Chinese and what about that Vietnamese song I listened to the other day that would be a cool language to learn-
